If you're in need of a taxi, you'll most like be calling these guys. Obviously you can hail one in…read morethe street, but if you're in need of a pickup at a certain time then you can book over the phone or online. They can be a bit hit and miss when it actually comes to turning up, but usually they're ok if you've booked for a specific time, but if you're in a rush on a Friday or Saturday evening and you don't live in a busy area, you may be waiting a while! The drivers will usually pick the longest fare so they get the most out of it and despite it being illegal, trying to get a cab after a night out on Friday and Saturday (not to mention public holidays) can be a nightmare as the drivers look for the best fares. Also, it's best if you have a general idea of the route you want to take as some of the drivers obviously haven't looked at a map in a long while and will tend to get a bit lost if it's not an obvious location. Taxis Combined is connected to Silver Service and the other companies, so when you book with them you could end up with any of them depending on who's about your area. Oh and if you're a pedestrian about to cross at the lights and it's going red, if you see a taxi approaching, just take a step back because it's unlikely to stop until it's definitely red!
