I opted for the strawberry N butterscotch waffle, upgraded to an M&M waffle. Served with either whipped cream or vanilla soft serve - I chose the ice cream. The waffle is a good size waffle with M&Ms throughout, then topped with a healthy portion of chopped strawberries and drizzled with butterscotch syrup and white chocolate flakes. The vanilla soft serve is what you can expect from being vanilla soft serve. The hot cookie dough was awesome too! Served with vanilla soft serve as well (most desserts come with the option), we chose the cookie dough with smarties but there's about 5-6 choices. Hot and delicious! Needless to say... super full after splitting the cookie dough and having 1 whole waffle. My friend got the brownie waffle and devoured hers as well. Cookie dough was around 5.50 pounds & waffle was about 6.50 plus the 1 pound up charge for m&m based waffle. I would recommend if you have a sweet tooth!

Firstly it does have an American diner feel to it with the high back booths and pink and black colour scheme but they don't offer table service like you might expect. You get taken to your seats and provided with menu's but then place your order at the till when ready. The menu is quite simply divine!! Waffles, crepes, ice cream sundaes and cheesecakes galore make it a difficult decision but eventually I set my mind to a 'strawberry and waffle cheesecake'. It appeared the staff were unaware of this option on the menu as I was asked both at the till and at my seat to clarify my order. My friend's ice cream sundae was brought to the table very quickly but I was left waiting and our drinks were nowhere to be seen. Then they brought me a plain strawberry cheesecake....needless to say I sent it back only to be told they didn't have the one I ordered and I had to change my order to a waffle. My friend had by this point demolished her ice cream. So overall the service was fairly poor however it is early days and teething issues are bound to crop up! The waffle I eventually got with Nutella and coconut flakes was gorgeous-huge portion and I felt satisfied but not overly stuffed after it! Definitely recommend it and I only hope the customer service improves!!

Impeccable service and super friendly staff made this a fantastic end to the night. Not to mention the abundance of delicious food we ordered. I had a nutella waffle with coconut which was gorgeous and my friends ordered ice cream and a banoffee crepe. All were presented very nicely but more importantly tasted divine! Huge portions so if you are visiting make sure you have plenty of room.....or if like us you failed the challenge you can take it away Win Win!! It really has a wonderfully chilled out atmosphere with retro 90's music in the background,a huge disco ball reflecting the light off the black glittery walls and ample booths where people can enjoy their food in almost an American style diner. They even had Frozen playing on the telly in the background which would be ideal for any children. I can really see this place attracting families on the weekend, young adults midweek and basically any dessert fans late evening after a meal elsewhere. My only concern would be its location in that come Fri/Sat night there will be large volumes of drunk people passing by and I just hope it doesn't upset the ambience.

I…read morewas slightly reticent as a few days before, I had visited Durham's cake shop/takeaway Sweet Tooth and was left disappointed. Sweet Tooth had rave reviews so I was naturally furious not to be thrilled with my visit. This put Lickety Split on a back foot. Clearly, I can't trust people from my native North East. Clearly, their opinion doesn't count for shit. Anyway, after a drive to the coast following a lunch of my mum's homemade cheese savoury, we parked up and had a walk to Lickety Split. It's a really good location - right on the road opposite the coastline. I love the coast and it's were I am happiest. However, the Seaham beach is down a billion steps which invariably means to go there means to walk all the way back up. The shop it's self is decked out, 50s diner style. It's quirky and cute and for the back swamp of County Durham it's a decent effort. Admittedly, I've been to places with a little more detail to the decor but is certainly a change from the norm up there. There was a sign saying we had to be served before we sat down but it wasn't busy so we sat down anyway. The table wasn't clean - not dirty, but the previous patron's plates and cups were still strewn across the table. Myself and my sister are former waitresses from the family business and clearing tables is somewhat of a disease. We piled up the plates and ditched them at the end of the table before grabbing a menu. There is an extensive amount of stuff on the menu. I thought it would just be ice cream but there are waffles, hot dogs and other stuff. Looking at other tables, the hot dogs looked massive and good quality - definitely not out of a tin. I was regretting the cheese savoury. You have to order at the till so I went up and ordered a banana split. The cashier said the desserts would be brought over and she came over straight away to clear the table. The banana split was BIGGER THAN MY HEAD. Huge banana, real fresh cream and the chocolate sauce was real chocolate. None of this squeezy tube rubbish - ACTUAL, PROPER CHOCOLATE. I was really impressed. And I felt bad that I had judged Lickety's by the poor standards of Sweet Tooth. My sister polished off her tasty minty dessert thing. I wanted to try it but I knew if I were to tackle this banana split, every spoonful was to be taken seriously. Nevertheless, it was my Everest. I just couldn't finish it and I admitted defeat with the grace of a seasoned athlete. And also because take away customers kept walking in and leaving the door open and it was bitter outside. Not quite ice cream weather, in truth. So if you are going to Seaham, avoid the stairs and grab and ice cream....but maybe take your jacket.

Great ice-cream sundaes and a nice surprise is the free mini ice-cream cone you get with a coffee…read more Brings a touch of class to the Seaham seafront.

The choice isn't large but that's just an observation not a complaint. We stopped in for a post-lunch dessert with our little one and ordered 2 sweet pancakes with ice-cream. There are no high-chairs available and while we could have had our pushchair out, we preferred not to intrude any more on the available space than we had to. We found the pancake taste and presentation were good but we didn't feel that overall they justified the price of £5.85 each. Compared with a dessert in any other local restaurant, that would have to count as expensive. Like the sweet pancakes, the savoury pancakes were also all one price - £7-something - and we worked out that if we'd been in for lunch and had a savoury and sweet pancake each, plus coffee, there would not have been much (if any) change over from £30! I noted that they were very happy to accommodate requests from a party of mums and toddlers at the next table, to divide pancakes up and adjust toppings to cater for toddler-whimsy, which earns them extra points in my book. Overall, a lovely place to while away a lunch-time, but don't go if you're counting pennies.

What has prompted this review is their mouth watering and delicious rhubarb and custard macaroons that I only discovered last week.....so good that they drew me back every day without fail! If you're a newbie to the French Oven it can be difficult to peruse their selection as it does get pretty busy along the counter but the staff are always more than happy to help and the queue is a reflection of the high quality and fresh food on offer. They also deliver if you want time to consider your order online or buy in bulk. I would highly recommend their macaroons as they are by far the best I've tasted outside of Paris itself! I also tend to favour the sourdough bread or focaccia - so flavoursome and light. Although not a frequent pasty fiend I have sampled their chilli con carne pasty when I was looking for convenience food and it was very tasty although perhaps could have had a bit more filling. Nonetheless I have yet to be disappointed by anything from this little treasure of a bakery.

As you would really, it being a bread shop :-) Anyway, the lady behind the counter was very helpful, and described the bread that was on the back shelves, and I selected a mixed grain. Sitting infont of her on the counter was an interesting dark brown round loaf, with some bright pink bits showing through. She said it was Prawn and something!!! I nearly choked! She said "It's been really popular today and this is the only one left!" I decided I may need to gird my loins a bit more before delving into the dark art of baking to that extreme. I asked if she had a list of the bread they do, and she handed me a Qype card! Whoo hoo for promoting Qype! Not so hot on getting me more info on produce sadly. Maybe a blackboard somewhere with "FreshToday" written on it and a list of bread and cakes available as well as the specials of the day would be very useful I feel. The bread was lovely!
