I have literally been coming here my entire life. My dad would get his haircut here and brought me in for my very 1st haircut fro TINO over 43 years ago. Now that I'm a dad I bring my son here to get his hair cut from TINO, just like my Dad did with me. Nothing has changed from 43 years ago, even the lollipop my son gets after his haircut. I no longer live in Norwalk but I still make the 45 minute drive every 2 weeks for our haircut from TINO. The barber shop and TINO look the same and it always reminds me of when I was a little kid coming in with my dad who is no longer here. I can't help but feel a little nostalgic every time I step foot at Excelsior Barber Shop. Well what a difference 9 months has made!! Excelsior Barbershop was sold and while I decided to give it a chance I can no longer keep doing the 45 minute drive if things don't change. TINO's days were reduced and now the only days he's available are Thursdays and Fridays. Give TINO back his Saturdays. Who has the time to go during weekdays while working and kids at school? The shops old school decor is gone along with the old school vibes and replaced with Asian Karaoke ‍. While I'm adaptable to change, this is way too much too soon and the shop has lost its charm. It was a great 44 year old tradition while it lasted. Good luck to the new owners because they seem very nice but hopefully they can make some adjustments before they lose all their "GENERATIONS" of loyal clientele. read more

Asked for a low taper and 1 inch off the top, i got a buzz cut instead. He was so aggressive with everythin.

The guys in there are great and very welcoming but I got a really bad haircut that I didn't ask for. For one, as the guy was cutting my hair he cut the bangs super short and didn't even measure it along with the rest of the hair on the top. The fade that he gave was really patchy and when he tried to cut the top even more it was super uneven. And he didn't really have a method of measuring what he should cut, he just cut randomly on the top. The cut on my sides are really uneven and not well done because it makes my head look like a triangle almost. The back of my head was also super patchy and the fade just didn't look good. The guy was really nice but he gave an extremely bad cut. I don't recommend this place. read more

Yes, Tino and the gang are no longer there, but, he did stick around for the new owners to get acclamation to the clientele. Personally, I like the work the new people do and the price is great. If you want things back the way they were, well, that's life. Things change and we have to accept it or move on. In short, still a place I come to, great service, and great prices. read more

Excelsior Barber has been around for many many many many years. As evident by all of the little league plaques which adorn the walls of the barbershop (1950's to the present), along with framed pictures taken of the barbershop's exterior showing the ever changing fa cad throughout the years. Excelsior Barber is your local barbershop where your brothers, cousins, fathers, neighbor all get their haircut there and the barbers are most likely the same barbers who were cutting your hair since you first began going there. Tino (he's the owner) and the gang are always open to share a story or two :) and if you see Tino ask him about his last trip (He would be the first barber you see as you walk in). Great place to get a haircut. Been coming here for years. No complaints yet. Haircuts run about $10. TV, magazines and newspaper to enjoy as you wait. Also an arcade machine for the kids and lollipop's. Tip: Get there early on the weekends since it is a popular place to get a haircut they tend to get very busy as the day progresses. This used to be owned by Tino a very compassionate barber. His team if barbers during their regimen was so gentle that when they cut your hair you wouldn't even feel them doin it. Now "excelsior barber shop" has a new owner. I had a very bad experience with This new barber that took over his name is Hung van tran. There was a few customer waiting next to me that day, the barber was by himself. I asked him to fix the side of my hair, he was in a hurry. He angrily and roughly brush off the hair from my right ear until i asked him to stop as it is not acceptable since he is being too rough. Then he kept on saying this is easy...this is easy so i have to have him stop and i just paid him and took picture of his barbers license. I am a small guy maybe he thinks that he can easily bully me.. I am still thinking if I'm going to report him to the board.. but just be ware. This barber has no compassion and he definitely luck customer service. I am asian.. this guy is also asian. I put 1star since the Aircon is really working, it always has music too. read more

Tino the barber has been cutting my hair since my high school days at Excelsior High School across the street nearly 40 years ago. Unfortunately the shop is now owned by this asian guy from Vietnam. Tino works on Thursdays only. All the memorabilias of Excelsior Barber Shop sponsored youth baseball photos are all gone. I got my hair cut today from Tino and only Tino. I whispered to Tino that if he hangs up his scissors from Excelsior Barber Shop, that I would want his home address so I can come over his house and get my haircut. He took the old barbers chair home with him and it is in his garage. Fortunately he lives close by where I live. Miguel the other barber is the only old timer left in that shop and he graduated from Excelsior High School in 1954. I guess you might say Miguel and I are Excelsior H.S. alumnis. Really sad that the barber shop is no long what it used to be. read more

I have been coming to this barber shop all of my life and I cannot go anywhere else now. Tino gave me my first haircut EVER (my Mom still has the certificate!) and he still does it today. I am 29 years old now and I can probably count on one hand the number of times any other barber has ever cut my hair. Tino is great for a story and has indeed traveled much. All of the other barbers there too are great Luis and Jesse have also cut my hair as well with great results. Chances are if you are a local to south Norwalk, you already know about Tino and the rest of the guys here, but you will not be disappointed. A mainstay in Norwalk already, this place is one of the few barber shops that is very old school that you can watch the latest boxing match while talking with the guys or just sit back and read the latest edition of Lowrider Magazine while you wait in line. Since I moved to Southern California I've been coming here, they were personable, sharp and extremely talented barbers with decades of experience each. I showed up today for a haircut and instantly noticed something was wrong. The classic vibe was sterilized. The vintage barber chairs were gone all replaced with black leather salon style chairs... the photos and posters that adorned every wall showcasing local community groups and kids leagues gone. Each unique barbers space replaced with modern cabinetry and a long counter... the old tools gone, no straight edge razors anymore... a man I had never seen before was the only barber working. He apparently bought excelsior recently and has been making some "upgrades". Alright then, lost the charm for a half finished modern vibe. Strike 1. Explained what I like and he didn't understand so he made me point to the closest approximation on his styles board... Strike 2. Uneven temple line, clippers run way to high on the back of the head and an almost half inch difference in sideburn length... Strike 3 man... Not pleased, guess I gotta find a new barber. Pro tip. I dont know about this place anymore. After getting a haircut, i got acne all over my lower backside of heads hairline, and forehead, (im asumint to lack of sanitation on blades). After i went back and got a haircut with the owner, i told him about it, and gave me a completely different haircut from what i asked for, was super heavy with the clipers and brushes, and even cut off a good chunck of hair right where the part devides from the bottom to top portion. Used to highly recommend this place due to the price, but i will now have to tell those recommendations to not go unless they like acne all over their lower scalp read more

I moved into town some years ago and began a new relationship with Excelsior Barbershop. All the barbers are real time professional trains barbers. I always receive a top knock hair cut from all of the best barbers in town, bare known. This shop, run by Tino, is the real deal. You can not go wrong just taking the next chair. Moved to Norwalk a few years ago and have been going to a salon to get my cuts. I decided to try some place new today. Used yelp and found this place. I walked right in and took a seat. I listened to the conversations being had and watched as people were getting their hair cuts. The barbers were very knowledgable and made sure you walked out with the cut you wanted. When it was my turn I showed the barber a picture of the style I wanted on my phone. The dude got it right away and went to work. Striking a conversation with me, all the while. He used a straight edge razor to clean the sides and handed me a mirror to verify that was the look I was going for. He nailed it. Needless to say, they have made a life-time customer out of me. Do not let the Asian lady near you. Tito my be the man but the lady decided to cut off my husband beard after he specifically told her to just groom and trim the longer hairs. She used a number 1 and proceeded to cut it down to the skin. He had grown out the beard since "no shave movember ". He was so upset and the other barber next to her told her she should have asked first. This was so disappointing. He will never go back. All trust is gone along with his beard. read more

I've been look for an old school barber for a while. My son and I both got our hair cuts here by different barbers. He wanted a place that did a clean up with a straight razor. They were courteous, professional and meticulous. My son loved the end result. #1 with a fade and a trim off the top. I got a 0 with a medium fade 3/4 inch scissor cut off the top.
