I feel comfortable about my finances being in his care. Arthur has the kindest smile and demeanor of anyone I've ever met. His warm smile makes you feel immediately at ease, considering that you're usually dealing with a stressful time in your life (having to shell out money!). My experience with Arthur was strange. Let me preface this review by saying that I just moved to S.F. from L.A., and I've used the same tax lady for years until now. My tax lady back in L.A. would take me as a walk-in , prepare my taxes the same day, I would pay her, and a week or two later I'd get my money. Very easy process. Not with Arthur... I had to make an appointment to see Arthur and when I came in for my scheduled appointment he was still talking to another client, so I had to wait. I brought all of the necessary documents, Arthur looked at them and said, "You'll probably get around XXX, but it will take me around 5 days to prepare your taxes." Huh? I've never had to wait that long. Ever. I'm a single person with no dependents, and I've worked at the same company for the past 7 years. I just don't see why my taxes should have taken that long to prepare. Arthur then asked that I leave my documents with him and that in a few days I would receive a form via email, which I would sign to consent to the filing. Four days later I received the form, printed it out, signed it, and delivered it to his office. The next day, Arthur left a message and said everything was ready, that I could come in, get my tax package and pay him. He never told me how much I owed him so I had to call his receptionist to find out. Also, he never asked me whether I wanted an electronic filing or paper, he just chose paper for me. I ended up paying him more than what I paid my tax lady in L.A., and I'm getting less money in return. I will not go back to Arthur. read more

I had booked an appointment to file my taxes with him, which we have done the past 3 or 4 years, and in the mean time used some online tools to do my own estimations (and find out we owe... bummer). I told him this and was hoping he could work some magic, and he quickly came to the same conclusion I had. He said he would be happy to file my taxes for his regular fee, but since I had already done the work he would be fine letting me do it myself and not charging me for his time. My experience with Arthur was really bad. He took my W2 and last year's tax return to take a look then emailed me a few days later saying that my taxes were done. When I emailed back with questions he got annoyed. He suddenly had back to back meetings and didn't have time to chat. He did want to charge me full price even though I expressed concerns about my return and told him I didn't feel comfortable filing through him. I don't recommend him at all. read more

Been going to Arthur for several years now. Very happy. However i do always review my tax returns, which is the right thing to do anyway. I would also take the 1 - star reviews where people complain that a simple tax return took 5 days or more with a grain of salt. If you have such a simple return - just use turbo-tax and be done with it in 1hr or less. Arthur is good with more complicated stuff - when you own properties, businesses - he is your guy. I was referred to this place by a friend and I had made an appointment with Arthur, but ended up with a lady named Iryna which was fine. She wasn't very friendly though. She also didn't bother to include and look over any donations I've made that year because "I am not a business owner and they are not $10,000/+". I was also interested in starting some investments or fidelity related type of things and thought maybe she would have some advice or tips. She said I "only made enough to live off of so what is there to invest?" She plugged all the numbers in and informed me that this is the highest return I would get anywhere. I actually look forward to seeing him every year - how many people can say that about their accountant? However, my taxes are relatively simple, and for the past 8 years or so I've been doing my own taxes using Turbotax. Well, all was good until I messed up one of my returns and got audited. I emailed Arthur and asked for help. He told me what documents I should bring to our meeting and saw me the very next day!
