I walked into Honey Birdette under the assumption that it was only a women's underwear store…read more Wrong! Halfway through browsing the lingerie, I walked around the corner and BAM! Dirty town! Well, not dirty. In comparison to most adult stores it was quite tame with simply a nook rather than entire store dedicated to toys, potions and accessories. With things like sensual cook books, edible body oils and an array of devices to spice up your love life, this store could have the answer to many a dull relationships problems! The underwear in store is beautiful, but seriously overpriced at around $120 for a bra and $75 for most of the matching underwear. It's the kind of underwear that is bought by someone for you, not the other way around. If you are in need of a bit of kick in your bedroom, and don't want to look too seedy walking out of a dodgy adult store, I recommend Honey Birdette for all of your sensual needs.

Unfortunately the sale assistant lied to get the sale and they would only offer a credit note, the gift recipient was unable to pick something else due to size issues and did not want any other items they sell, so pick carefully and note they will not give a cash refund and you may well be stuck with a credit note for a shop that is not to all tastes. This is not a shop that men can buy with confidence knowing that the staff will tell customers anything to get them Towie a sale.

I entered mainly to escape the midday heat, but I stayed for the sequins, the taffeta, and the gorgeous pre-loved shoes. Vintage fanatics will have a field day rifling through the well stocked hangers and with service this friendly, why not? The website isn't live just yet, but I was promised by shop owner Amy that it was coming soon. Take advantage of this brand new store's youthful energy and duck in after your next New Farm brunch date.
For an awful minute, I thought I wasn't going to be allowed inside this shop. I tried the door but…read moreit wouldn't open, then realised that I had to actually ring a bell to gain entry. I am not sure if this is so they can scrutinise your attire before they deem you acceptable to enter ((thank God I was wearing a lovely vintage leather midi-skirt), but I did find it very off-putting. And, to be honest, totally unnecessary. C'mon folks, it's a suburban Brisbane boutique, not Karl Lagerfeld's headquarters! Once inside the luxe environs (and yes, it is beautiful - and you can tell that they did base the opulent decore on the old-style French couture salons) I was told by the slightly superior shop assistant that you can find everything to dress you from the inside out. There's lingerie, high end hosiery, jewellery (I spied pieces by Ericson Beamon - I'm not sure anywhere else in Brisbane stocks that), bags, and of course an achingly expensive range of Little Black Dresses. When I was there they'd just received some newbies by Valentino). They only stock European designers - although one Aussie label did make the cut (Aurelio Costarella). Needless to say, the prices are not for the faint hearted. Nor for the really young and funky. Whilst the collections are carefully chosen and there are some beautiful pieces, I can imagine it would mainly appeal to the ladies-who-lunch set and the older members of Paddington's "society" crowd. I've given it 3 stars purely because of the quality of the clothes - if you're after a little slice of European chic, you'll get it here. But if I were you, I wouldn't turn up in flip flops and denim shorts...
For a taste of imported designer fashion in Brisbane this is the place to go. I visited to purchase…read moresome lingerie as they are one of the few retailers in Brisbane stocking french brands. If I had endless time and funds I would have found many special pieces to buy that I would not get anywhere else in Brisbane. I once interviewed the editor of Adultshop's web site and she recommended that lovers "be bold, be…read moredirect and be fearless, because nothing is as sexy as a lover who knows exactly what they want". And she should know, having fielded queries from thousands of online shoppers keen to spice up their sex life. While Adultshop is Australia's leading online adult store, its physical shops aren't doing too badly. So much for a supposed slump in retail, on the day I popped into their Yokine/Dog Swamp outlet, the place was pumping (do pardon the pun) with no less than eight shoppers excluding this little Yelp scout. That the store is situated in family-friendly Centro Flinders shopping centre is a surprise, but then I suppose anything goes in desperate consumerism these days. Everything you could possibly think of in the sex toy department can be found in this store, from dildos and dongs (the latter is lacking in proverbial balls), to flavoured condoms and dental dams, cock rings to (Woah Nelly!) strap-ons, and erection enhancers to nifty little things called 'orgasm balls', there's plenty to ooh and aah over here. In fact it'd be a hen's or buck's night dream hangout if the shopping centre was open late enough!

I have been going to Garden City for the past 18 years since moving to Brisbane. It was my post…read moreoffice, grocer, chemist as well as a place to shop in general. Now that I am getting my mail delivered to my home, any of many centers would be convenient to me. But what kept me returning regularly to Garden City was a great little used book store, The Book Cafe. It was a concern when a generic chain bookstore was opened right next door to them last year, and this week, my fears for them were confirmed: their lease was up and not to be renewed. The "new" Garden City is indeed big and pretty. But without shops such as The Book Cafe, it is really just another version of every large shopping centre. Shame on you Westfield!
The thing that really grabbed me about this place is that they actually have a section where there…read moreare market stalls. Look, honestly, shopping centres really don't come anywhere close to the charm of the main street, but they do have a purpose. Like many of the Westfields, you pretty much know what you are going to get here, though the issue that I had was that sometimes getting out in certain directions (such as a direction that doesn't involve the bus stop) requires you to maneuver your way through a car park, so yes, this place really isn't all that pedestrian friendly.
With my severe incense aversion, it's amazing I even set foot inside this store. But I had one goal…read more- to get to the soap. Not because I was emitting a stench of any sort, but because the handmade "artisan" soaps in here look utterly, irresistably delicious. They look like frothy, creamy slices of cake (complete with beautifully decorated swirls of "icing"), and they smell absolutely divine. With names like Cherry Blossom and Berrylicious, I'm sure you get my drift. And it only cost $9 to smell that damn good. The rest of the store was your typical hippie fare (fisherman's trousers, smock tops made of Indian cotton etc) - although it wasn't as "batik" and traveller-esque as I've seen in some stores of this ilk - it's a little chicer and the ranges are a little bit more well chosen.

It may not be for everyone, but I love stores like this. I wouldn't say that I'm a big tie-die wearer, but I really like some of their other clothes. They also have great service, with the lovely lady working at the time I was visiting absolutely delighting shoppers with her kindness (I saw one customer decide she deserved a hug in return). As I wandered aimlessly through the store, I came across a table with a variety of handmade soaps. As the sign invited me to, I picked one up and smelled it, then another and another. They all smelled absolutely divine. I was sorely tempted to purchase one, but I never use bars of soap (I do use other cleansing products, don't worry). I've made a mental note of their range, in permanent marker, if I ever do start though.
