This is where the opening scene of the movie "Night of the Living Dead" was filmed. Not exactly a horror flick or Zombie fan, I still had to visit the Evans City Cemetery out of morbid curiosity. It's easy to find, located just south of town on Franklin Road. I was surprised that I could easily find headstones shown in the movie. The old cemetery is still in use today. So, think of others when visiting. I thought I would be the only person there, but as I was leaving I discovered I was blocking someones access. And they weren't there site-seeing, they were obviously there for business. Lucky for me, they were human. Also, the little road going into the cemetery is a little narrow, so take care not to run over anyone. A must see for fans of George Romero.

The temptation to stop in was just too strong during our last visit to Pittsburgh PA. We thought "What the heck, it might be cool", and then took a crazy detour to Evans City Cemetery to see where George Romero made the first cult classic zombie movie. I suggest you do a litte research before you make the trip, otherwise you will be searching for information on your smart phone while you try to figure out the locations of the grave yard scenes. We found three headstones used in the movie and had fun recreating the scenes in pictures. The chapel construction is nearly complete. It was in good condition compared to what others have mentioned in reviews and seen in earlier photographs. Evans City Cemetery was the only stop we had time for even though other locations in Night of the Living Dead were nearby. Next time I would like to check out the zombie museum in Evans City!
