I finally made it to Euro Pane and realized I've been driving by it for so long. It's a quick walk from Paseo Colorado. I vastly prefer this location to the other EuroPane a bit further east. The sleek modern interior with fantastic lighting is worthy of the food. It reminds me of some cafes in Europe with a simple white asthetic, wooden tables and communal seating. The big communal table in the center of the space gives Euro Pane a great community touch. Although most people were running in just getting a breakfast order in, mothers with children looked to be having breakfast before classes. A nice touch if you have time! I had a very posh, French-y macaron breakfast. I enjoyed two exquisite macarons - a delectable sea salt caramel macaron with a luscious buttercream center and another pretty solid pistachio macaron. I am still looking for a pistachio macaron that sings with real pistachio flavor and this just didn't do it for me. Parking: Street Parking paid at payment kiosks. Ample seating and great ambience. It was just the right amount of sweet (I've had macarons before that were too sweet and made my teeth hurt). It paired nicely with my black coffee from copa vida. I came to Euro Pane on a Saturday afternoon to grab a quick bite to eat because I was in a rush and wanted something to-go. With the staff's help, I ordered the recommended Mediterranean Chicken sandwich, and it really did not disappoint. The bread was fresh. And overall the sandwich was really flavorful - it had sundried tomatoes, some veggies (to make me feel somewhat healthy), some kind of sauce/cheese, and a hearty amount of chicken. In my opinion, the chicken was a little dry, but the sandwich overall was something I would order again, purely based on how tasty it was. It was also BIG and filling. My friend ordered a Roast Beef sandwich and he said it was also a solid meal that he would get again. Service was friendly, and I didn't have to wait long at all for my sandwich to be ready. I'd definitely want to come back to check out the freshly baked items on display and also enjoy a sit-down meal - it had a great ambiance and seemed like a very chill place to catch up with some friends over some yummy food! read more

My friend took me here for an early lunch this past weekend because we were in the area. We had been meaning to go here for a while, so the anticipation was high. When we entered the restaurant, it was already bustling with a Brunch crowd. Though the line was lengthy, it moved quickly and was expedited by a server taking orders before the register. We decided to go with a beet salad, an almond chicken sandwich, and a sticky bun. All was tasty, but the almond chicken salad and the sticky bun were sensational. At Europane, they bake all their own bread and it shows as it really completes the meal. The almond chicken sandwich (though breaded) was still really light and flavorful which was a nice pairing with the sweet, buttery sticky bun. We had a really great meal and recommend the place highly. It gets a little crowded on the weekend so you might have to be on the lookout for tables, but the food is worth it. Too bad it's not closer to us in Mid-City, but we will be back. read more

I have never been to a place with such big macarons before! They were almost as big as my palm, it was crazy. Parking was... a little confusing. We ended up just parking in Paseo across the street and validating at Macy's (good for free 2 hours!) I sampled the pistachio, sea salt caramel, and the hazelnut macarons. They were all good, not overly sweet. Their filling was more to my liking than most places, being more fluffy and less sickeningly-sweet. The sea salt caramel was my favorite: the chocolate shells weren't very sweet, contrasting nicely with the ganache in the middle, with pinches of sea salt on the shells to complete the experience. The open-faced egg salad sandwich was kinda overrated. I mean, sure it's different and rather substantial, but it wasn't mind-blowing. I felt like something was missing to make the flavor more... prominent. The egg portion was quite generous though--I think at least 3 eggs gave their lives for the meal. Not quite worth the $8 price tag though. Their drinks were very mediocre. I was so disappointed when I ordered a $3+ chai tea latte and I got... a mug with a chai tea bag in it. Really? Finally got to try the infamous Egg Sandwich. It is not cheap at almost $9 but the portion is huge. It came with a mountain of delicious egg salad on top of arugula and a slide of bread. The bread was tough IMO. It was hard to cut through to get the bread. The egg salad was perfectly seasoned. The eggs really came through without being overpower by the mayo. It is how eggs salad should taste like. I assume they must used at least 3 eggs for a sandwich. My bf got the hazelnut latte and I got the Chai Tea Latte. A Small Bakery near Pasadena City College. The greatest find in here would be the macaroons they sell. For $1.95-2 a piece, you get a Big piece of Delicious Goodness. I've tried many macaroons and Euro Pane is on the Top of my List. They may not have the "Packaging" as Elegant as Bodega Louie, however they make up in Taste what they Lack in Presentation. The workers and service is top notch. They are very nice and patient in answering questions regarding the menu. If your in the neighborhood, I recommend stopping by and trying this place. I'm blaming Roland L. for my random cravings for macaron. I think I have the macaron bug. Because of that, a friend of mine mentioned that Euro Pane had macarons. He wasn't a big fan of the pastries for some reason, but I'm usually the type of person that has to see for himself and decide with my own judgement. This visit, I decided to grab the raspberry, blackberry and hazelnut macarons. Much bigger than "lettes, but is it better? The fruit ones were a bit sweet, which I did like with a nice fluffy possibly butter cream filling. I haven't tried many macarons to figure out what shell is good, but I have done my research and know that the fruit shells at EuroPane were soft and chewy, how a good macaron shell should be. The hazelnut, however, was a bit on the tough side. With 'lettes, I did understand why their salted caramel was a bit harder, due to the fillling, but EuroPane's hazelnut was a cream filling, and the shell was more crisp and a lot less chewy than its fruit counterparts. I'll probably come back to figure out if there's any other baked goods I want to try. read more

I always loved their famous egg salad sandwich on olive bread and finally I ventured out for other dishes. My husband and I shared a BLT sandwich on olive bread and an order of French Toast. The have the BEST French Toast I ever had! Instead of typical maple syrup, Euro Pane's French Toast comes with blueberry compote and whipped cream. The thick cut toast is perfectly cooked and tastes great on its own. If you like breakfast food, this is a "must try". The macaroons are outstanding! Sorry but I'm not in love. My beet salad made me feel a little sick (and I LOVE beet salad so that's weird). The macarons are too ... big. Never thought I could have too much macaron but my friend and I removed the filling from our macarons and it just generally wasn't that tasty. I am actually quite sad that this place turned out to be such a disappointment to my stomach! Maybe I ordered the wrong things? .. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future. We ordered the much anticipated open face egg salad sandwich, the meat loaf sandwich, and an egg tart to share. Both of the sandwiches were good for the first 3-4 bites. Then, I strangely got sick of both tastes. To be fair, I am not originally a fan of meat loaf, but my initial bites of the sandwich were good. Towards the end though, it started making me feel sick (maybe it was because I didn't particularly like how the meat looked -- like a patty..which weirds me out sometimes haha) so I gave the rest of my half to my bf. As for the egg salad sandwich, the bread it was on complimented it very well and I loved the egg salad. But they really do not skimp out on the eggs! It was a bit overwhelming at the end (just too much egg!) and I don't think I finished my half either. The egg tart was very good -- the custard was not too sweet and the fruits were very sweet! My overall experience was "meh" but I'm willing to give it another try after some research on what else to order. My boyfriend, on the other hand, really enjoyed it (& would've given it 4 stars) so I guess you'll just have to try it for yourself ! read more

delicious! we got the Mediterranean sandwich (huge with delicious sun dried tomatoes) and French toast. Sooo good with a delicious homemade vanilla cream. Coffee is freshly brewed.. Great place to load up on baked goods, walk around the neighborhood..make new friends. Macaroons are good but I think there are better all over the city. They have the new flavors of pumpkin and coconut as of this weekend. If you are serious about macaroons, head to the Langham Hotel or even Trader Joe's. Yelp shows a Euro Pane east of Lake Ave. but I didn't see it, so I ended up at this location. I almost tried the egg sandwich from the reviews but I'm not a big fan so for the first time I thought I'd get something I knew I'd probably like. I had the BLTA sandwich on the sourdough and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had. Top 3 for BLTA's. The bread is untoasted which I liked, the greens and tomato were fresh and I don't think they used cold tomatoes which is a plus. The bacon was really tasty and there was a lot of it. The avocado was perfectly ripe and really tasty. And they included a cookie! My real reason going there was to try my first macaron. I tried a salted caramel, coconut and raspberry. All really good but the salted caramel was exceptional! I am so happy they taste as good as they look! The staff was really nice and prompt. I was expecting them to be rude or standoffish according to other reviews, but if it was a problem, it was not at all today. I'll definitely come back... maybe give that egg salad sandwich a try next! read more

Went in and ordered several pastries to bring home and was overcharged and didn't notice until I literally got home and began packing. Obviously nothing I can do now that I'm a 7 hour drive away. I only bought one salted caramel macaron with an ice coffee and stepped out, not expecting anything. Didn't expect it to be so good! I've been to plenty of bakeries that have macarons and it's always so-so. Nothing memorable. But at Euro Pane, it's one of the best macarons I've had anywhere in a long time. It's soft and chewy and very generous on the ganache. I wish I went back and bought more :-/. Maybe next time I'm in Pasadena, I'll definitely buy more flavors. read more

I came here first before going to the one close to Lake, I had high expectations but was slightly disappointed. Interior: nice, open and minimalist. Food: there were only a few pastries, I tried the poppyseed souffle cheesecake and the bread pudding, sadly no egg salad sandwich that i heard a lot of rave of... The cheesecake was ok...it was really light and almost tasteless... The bread pudding was pretty good...I eventually looked up recipes to make one by myself... So, until they level up to the original europane, i don't think i'll be back... the people there were nice though... read more

OK, so I decided to give Europane another chance. I had seen some colorful, enticing macaroons in their display case, so I came back to get some for a party. We tried a variety of flavors, maybe 6 or 7. The service this time was MUCH better than my first visit. The macaroons were a bit sweet for my taste, but they were a hit among my friends. Especially the caramel flavor. I also picked up another salad during my visit. And that brings me to my second topic: EGGSHELLS. I've been to Europane twice now, and both times I have ordered salads. And both times the salads have had bits of eggshell in them. I HATE EGGSHELLS! There is nothing worse than grinding your teeth on eggshells. Just a suggestion, if you're going to the trouble of making a nice salad, why can't you take a second or two to rinse off the hard-boiled egg to make sure you have removed the shell??? read more

Got to Pasadena early for work, so I decided to stop by and pick up a morning pastry. I've read some reviews on yelp and decided to go with the blueberry brioche. I got it to go and had it once I got to work. They had placed the brioche in a brown bag. The butter specks on my brown bag was deceiving because the brioche is light and delicious. I tore off a piece and enjoyed it with my tea. At first, I only taste the sugar that is coated on the outside of the brioche, and then I bite into a blueberry and finally I reach the vanilla bean specked custard waiting for me in the middle. If I can have it everyday without adding inches to my waist, I'd probably will. They have a glass case full of different baked goods. Everything looks absolutely delicious. The service is friendly and quick. I will definitely need to go back and try their freshly prepared salads and sandwiches! read more

I was in a hurry to grab some breakfast for some friends visiting town, and I had heard about Euro Pane from a friend. It was on the way to meet my friends, so I stopped by hoping to get a few things - thinking they would be typical bakery goods. I didn't know anything about any of the food, so I just played bakery window roulette. I got a couple of quiches, blueberry crumb cake, a plumb pastry, and a raisin scone. They threw in a few rolls with my order too. I got some coffee because I didn't want to have to make another stop, but I was anticipating the angry reactions from friends that I had settled for bakery coffee. All of the baked goods were amazing. The crumb cake was so soft and intensely flavorful. The cone was very nicely buttery and creamy - it was the "dryer" type of scone, but it was not dry in a negative way. It was really fresh, which is sometimes hard to find in scones. If you like really soft scones, sorry - get the coffee cake - it was really soft. The plumb pastry was amazing. Plumbs were really at peak when I went, so this was a star player. The quiche was really good as well, and, again, just really intensely flavorful without being overly salty. Even the little rolls they threw in were great. Then the kicker was that the coffee was wonderful. No complaints. In fact, my friends gave surprised exclamations that the coffee was better than some other coffee shops they like. Great stuff! This place knocks my socks off every time I come here! The food is always consistently good. I always start off with a main course which could be a sandwich or salad and then A dessert. My favorite sandwiches: 1. Egg salad. They start with a lightly toasted slice of their In-store baked bread, with a think layer of tomato pesto spread, topped with their signature egg salad. This is not like your average egg salad. The eggs are cooked perfectly, not runny, not hard, but perfect. and then made into an egg salad. 2. Almond chicken sandwich. I always order this sandwich with olive bread. They add, crusted almond sliced chicken breast with melted Swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato and a hit of love. This sandwich can feed two people, it's that big. 3. Vegetarian. They start out with their crusted French bread, topped with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and veggies. It's really tasty. Their pastries are yummy and fresh. I always get a French macaroon for a little sweet treat. Lots of flavors to choose from. My favorite is the mocha. What I Ate - Tuna Melt on sliced sourdough bread. About the Place: It's a clean and modern cafe. Nice assortment of sandwiches, salads and pastries (like bread pudding and macaroons). Salads are large. Long line at noon (a lot of business types getting their lunch fix), but it moves quickly and food came out quickly. Love the bare polished wood communal table. They also have smaller party tables and outdoor seating. There is no music playing, but lunch time diner chatter fills the aural void. The Food: Definite room for improvement on the sandwich, which was about an inch and half with no greens. Could use a little bit more cheese and pickle slices, instead of diced, as you couldn't really taste them. A sweet relish might have been a good alternative, something more flavorful to compliment the tuna. Tuna was dry and could use a bit more mayo. Bread was perfectly toasted and crispy, with appropriate crunch. Better alternative: Mendocino Farm's Modern Tuna Melt Would I Come Back: Yes, to try one of their stacked salads. Disclaimer: As I was fond of pointing out in my few reviews written many, many moons ago, your experience may vary from mine and you may find that this dish/place more to your liking than me. Super bummed. This has to be one of my fvaorite places the last several years for breakfast, pastries and yummy beverages. Europane changed owners and I knew instantly that something had changed. The service was poor, staff was very rude, pastries were not fresh and we waited over 20 minutes for an iced tea and a latte. The tables were dirty and the cashier stand and coffee area was dirty. What Chloe C. said is totally accurate. The sandwiches and coffee are pretty good. They bake their own bread so it's always fresh. But they really haven't figured out customer service yet. It's like they are doing you a favor when they decide to take your order. And if you're stuck in line behind someone who can't make up their mind, the other 4 people behind the counter just mill around pretending to do little chores and ignore you. For the longest time, I used to go to Starbucks on Colorado trying to do work. Today's the first day I ventured across the street and tried Europane. The drinks are good, the environment is spacious and open, air conditioned, and has free Wi-Fi. Best of all, the manager and employees really care about the community. A homeless man walked in and asked for some water. The manager gladly served him, had him sit down, and reassured him that whenever he needed some water or a place to cool down, to come on in. My wife, son and I came here with an old friend of mine who used to be both a pastry and a line chef because he swears by this place. He hasn't yet led us astray. Euro Pane was pretty fantastic. Unfortunately I was so into my Mediterranean chicken sandwich I forgot to try the two egg dishes my wife and friend received. The bread (which I'm assuming was homemade) was perfect as was how the chicken was cooked. Several kinds of cheese, fresh vegetables and God knows what else was in this sandwich made for a great mix of flavors. I ordered this as per the very friendly cashier's recommendation and wasn't disappointed. We also got a chocolate croissant, sea salt macaron, egg custard ... thing, and a lemon square. Listen.. if you're not interested in a chicken sandwich then you should damn well be interested in these baked goods. Hmmmohmygod. Legitimately some of the better pastries I've had that were made with extreme care and finesse. Everything was on point down to the last crumb - the shortbreads crumbled and held like they should have and everything had their unique flavors down to a T. I ate the croissant and sea salt macaron a day late (it was an accident, I swear!) and they were still marvelous. Conclusion: Good food, good service, EXCEPTIONAL baked goods. read more

My favorite bakery anywhere. While it may lack the hundreds of offerings you'll often see in the class cases of a corner doughnut shop (though the selection is not at all bad) it more than makes up for in focus, presentation, and hand-crafted excellence. The atmosphere is quintessential lazy weekend morning, the vibe is relaxed and ever-so-slightly cool-chic, the prices agreeable, and the service smashing. Extra credit for the splendid floor to ceiling windows and the rough hewn main gathering table featured prominently in the center of the space. It's like eating breakfast in an neo-Bauhaus architect's kitchen, save for the near-constant queue. Another observation: in France it is generally accepted that one who is a good baker cannot be a good pastry chef, and vice versa. Europane is a clear exception to this rule as all offerings are top notch. I will conclude by observing that it is very rare to bear witness to a proprietress who not only knows how to run a restaurant, but manages to be an accomplished culinary artist with integrity intact. I just want to cry over what has become of Europane. It used to be my favorite bakery in Pasadena. When owner/bakery Sumi sold it to a corporation a couple of years ago I was scared, but I was told that the new owners had Sumi's recipes and it was part of the sales agreement that they would continue to use them. They did...at first. But now her delicious recipes have fallen by the wayside as the new owner has switched to cheap, fast ingredients. One of my favorites used to be Europane's pear-marizpan tart, made of thin layers of pastry, lined with almond paste, topped with thinly sliced fresh pear and dusted with slightly carmelized granulated sugar. You would never recognize it now--it's just a Danish smeared with some pastry cream with chunks of pear. My latest purchase was the last straw--it LOOKED like one of Sumi's classic almond croissants, but biting into it, it contained but some weird bear claw cinnamon paste with chunks of candied citrus rind. Dafuk? Is it too much to ask that an almond croissant contain, you know, almond? I weep for the demise of Europane. read more
