Our first point of contact with a young man was unacceptable. He ignored us and vehemently looked away in an attempt to not serve us. Eventually, he simply walked away and left us standing at the counter. Fortunately, a young woman approached us and took our order. She was friendly, personable, and clearly eager to do her job.
However - and it's a big however, when we engaged our server in friendly small talk while she prepared our order, the owner barged in and instead of realizing and/or understanding that friendly engagement of customers creates a welcoming atmosphere, his immediate concern was the humiliation of his employee in front of paying customers.
We did NOT appreciate the way he treated his staff. We did NOT appreciate the way he used the situation to humiliate and demean his staff. We did NOT appreciate being used as a tool in his appalling pursuits. Instead of being just customers, our very friendly interaction was turned into a situation where I felt like we (a.) had created a problem for his employee and (b.) had become a surreal part of punishment he was dealing out to his employee. This employee was well-educated, very personable, and very customer oriented. Her boss, however, decided that he needed to yell at her simply for inquiring if our order was "to go," followed by a barrage of demeaning commentary on her performance and intelligence.
In the end, the owner's actions were so repulsive and unacceptable that I would NEVER opt to give this man any of my business. Ever!
