This hotel is like Fantasyland at Disney. Not because it is filled with screaming children and absent-minded/jaded parents --it isn't--but because it is marvelously decorated and feels like an old castle or something. Exposed wood beams, stained glass, the place really gives off a great vibe.
However, I am giving the hotel three stars to caution my fellow travelers. I'm giving it three stars because I am an idiot. Three stars because location is inconvenient for exploring Trier, and you should know that. There are bus links to the city, but I think it is quite a few stops from the city center. The hotel will gladly call you a taxi, which runs about 12 Euros or so to get into town, not a terrible cost, but it does take time away from sightseeing. Otherwise, if you're not looking to explore the city, or just looking for a romantic night out with your significant other, this place is great.
The experience wasn't flawless, either. We had an excellent 4-course meal in the restaurant, but the breakfast, while robust, was lacking in service. It's damn near impossible to get a refill on your coffee, which is a shame because the coffee is, in my opinion delicious. It's real filter coffee, which is very hard to find in Europe, so have some, but don't expect a second cup. read more
