We got fresh fruit, hand soap, biscotti, bottled water, and other random things throughout the week. The cashiers were patient with us each time we paid and they showed me how to print out a barcode based on the fruit I was purchasing. I wish this was my local city grocery store in the US.

This store is great because they have anything that you might need (which is pretty good for an express store) -- not sure if express stores are different than the American versions of expresses, but they had a good amount of options of just about everything. Not sure if the price is what all grocery stores charge in the area because a lot of things seemed quite expensive (loaf of bread could be 4 euros, where as in the US, it would be like 2). But it's a nice place to go to pick up some essential food items/snacks if you don't like eating out all the time when traveling (especially since it can be hard sometimes to find a foods that fit your craving). It was much larger than a Conad and very similar to an American market except their offerings are much more interesting. I was in love with the vast yogurt selection. Picked up some Pistacchio Yogurt for breakfast and it was delicious! They also had fresh fruit for decent prices and plenty of food souvenirs to take home. I found a box of Ferrero's Pocket Expresso that I've been searching for and some juices. Plenty of locals shop here as I didn't see too many tourists. Bonus: You can also buy bus tickets here!

If you're staying around Mercatale, this will be your go-to grocery store in town, since there are…read moreno other options. Get your cheese and meats up on the square, but for the rest, you'll be stuck with the Coop. This one is very small, a limited selection. The food is still amazing, fresh, seasonal and local, as it is in most of Tuscany. If you need anything you can't find here though, try the bigger coop in San Casciano (keep in mind that things are so seasonal in Tuscany, that they may be out of tomatoes if it's the middle of winter, even though that's a staple you'd expect to find anywhere in Italy). If you still can't find what you need, seek out the hypermarket 45 minutes away, near Florence, called I Gigli. My main beef with this Coop is that the staff is incredibly rude. Even if you speak Italian, as long as you look like a foreign (blond, blue eyed, light skin, or any race but white), they will treat you like crap most of the time. They will hurl your fruits and vegetables to the end of the bagging counter, they will not be patient if you don't have your money ready or try to pay with a card that doesn't work, and certainly don't expect them to smile or wish you a good day. And if you don't speak Italian, expect nothing at all from them.

But you really should head for this one - the big one (located in a mini-mall)! Everything you need is here. Meat (fresh, packed or frozen), cold meats, bread, pastry, cookies, olive oil, dairy products, pasta, all the non-food items, beer, wine, spirits and a great selection of fresh fish and seafood! It's like a Safeway / Walmart / Tesco...that kinda supermarket. A wee bit smaller of course. We shopped here on a daily basis during our time in San Vincenzo this year and the year before. Especially the seafood / fish selection is very nice....and so fresh! And you really can walk away with a huge load of seafood for under 20 Euro. The cold meat cuts and their cheese are great too ... and really low-priced, but high quality. Also great to stock up your alcohol! And if you need anyhting else to eat / cook or other items for you household, they probably got it too. It's also where the locals shop. Opened 7 days a week (sundays only in the morning), except for holidays like Christmas or Easter.

If you want to find great brands and prices like this in NYC, you have to be prepared to sort through an unorganized store and it's like finding a needle in a haystack-- but not here. Everything is so organized, each clothing rack is in order according to sizing, even the shoes are organized, there's no clutter and the store is easy to walk through and find what you need. I could say "it's an Italian thing" for why it's so organized and neat since Italians are all about presentation and visuals, but I still have to give this store credit for keeping things organized considering the high amount of tourist traffic that comes through this area. The layout is grand and you can see how to get to each specialty department from mostly anywhere in the store without really needing to ask where departments are. The sales people are chill, they don't hassle you, but are available to help when you need them. If you're in Firenze and prefer to shop quality and designer apparel without paying full price, this is the place to come! After you finish doing your touristy things near the Duomo, come and visit just around the corner!
