The kids were at different levels, some were taking their first class and others were more experienced. The class still flowed nicely and allowed all the kids to work at their own pace and level. While there, we used that opportunity to get some engagement photos, and picked Elements for the job. We were both so crazy about the experience - Kelly's skill, her demeanor, her cool studio and cooler personality - that when we left we wanted to find an excuse to meet up with her again. And the photos were better than we'd even hoped. Fun, cool, romantic, beautiful, all we could ask. Then, a couple of months later, we found ourselves talking with our L.A. wedding planner about wedding photos. She shared a number of very good photographers with us, but none struck us in as wonderful a way as Kelly had, and their prices were far higher. Just on the off chance, our planner phoned Kelly and found that we could fly her to L.A., put her up, give her a "second shooter," and she'd still come in at a lower cost than the ones out here. So we hired her again. And at the wedding and reception, she was every bit as wonderful as she had been in her studio - great for everyone to work with (including the videographers), delightful company... and the final results were just stunning. We urge everyone to find and choose a photographer whose portfolio matches your style and energy. But if you're lucky enough to find that Kelly does, we can't recommend Elements highly enough. There's no such thing as perfection in art, but Kelly is perfect.

Before signing, we specifically discussed beginning work earlier than her typical timeline, receiving assistance with vendor sourcing and brainstorming, rehearsal coordination, timeline creation, light setup and teardown, and overall wedding management. Based on those conversations, we felt confident that she would be a strong logistical partner leading up to and during our wedding. Looking back, I believe the biggest challenge was not a lack of good intentions, but a gap between the responsibilities that were discussed and the level of execution we ultimately experienced. Throughout the planning process, Theresa frequently offered to take on additional responsibilities beyond what she now describes as wedding management alone. While I appreciated her willingness to help, many of those tasks were either not completed, completed late, or required significant follow-up from us. We raised concerns about organization and communication months before the wedding and requested a more streamlined process, including written action items and clearer follow-through after meetings. On the wedding week itself, there were several moments where we felt we were managing logistics that we expected our coordinator to be directing. Despite providing detailed documentation for décor placement and event setup, my husband and I, along with members of our family and wedding party, ended up completing a significant portion of the setup and coordination ourselves. Rehearsals lacked the level of leadership and direction we expected, vendor issues were not always proactively communicated, and several logistical details required intervention from us or our loved ones. What makes this experience difficult to summarize is that I genuinely believe Theresa cares deeply about her couples and wants them to have a great experience. However, good intentions alone are not enough in a role that requires strong organization, communication, leadership, and attention to detail under pressure. For couples considering working with Theresa, my recommendation would be to have very specific conversations about expectations, responsibilities, and boundaries from the beginning. Make sure every responsibility is clearly defined, documented, and understood by both parties. My experience was not that I misunderstood the services being offered. Rather, responsibilities were often expanded through conversations and offers of help, but the execution did not consistently match those expectations. I wish Theresa success as she continues to grow her business, and I hope she takes the lessons she has publicly shared about boundaries, capacity, and client expectations and uses them to strengthen the experience for future couples.
