A little gem hidden away in plain sight…read more.. For people like me, who crave coffee all the time, there is always the decision between "going where you KNOW the coffee is good" and "trying new places" - Since I started yelping, I try to do the latter more often, and so we happend to end up trying the coffee at the Kaffeerösterei in Erlangen. Although it is just around the corner from the Hugenottenplatz, I have probably walked past it about 50 times without giving it a second glance. Now the most important thing is, that they don't sell all that fluffy "ccino" stuff that others do, but specialize in "good ol' coffee". If you walk into the store, you can buy coffee beans and ground coffee from all over the world, but there's a tiny counter in the wall, where you can buy your coffee from the outside. The coffee is de-lish-uzzzz! Ranks right up there with the best coffee in the area! Someone definitely knows what beans to use =) Now, the only thing that could be better is the size of the to go cup. It's tiny...I mean, compared to what you usually get at a classy café, it's probably not too small, but I like my coffee, and like a lot of it - so even though it's rather cheap (1,90€ per cup) it could definitely be a little more...or a LOT more! Nevertheless, I cannot keep myself from giving that last star, because it tastes just so good!! Bottom line: * among the best coffee in the area * charming little shop that specializes on coffee * coffee is soooo good, but cup is soooo tiny :(

Yet another coffee shop that I just had to check out!…read more Location: unspectactular, as it's set in a street with 3 coffee shops right next to it, but still in the middle of town and it's a nice spot to sit for a while, either outside in the sun or inside in the roomy shop itself. It's brand new and the design is modern and cute, the counter makes up one entire side of the shop though. Food: The name, when translated, means 'Sweet & Spicy', so it's only logical that you can get a variety of different food here. On the one side of the counter you can get savoury (Italian) snacks like Tramezzini & Panini, while the other side will satisfy your sweet tooth with plenty of cake and other sweet things. I only tried the cheesecake so far, and it was ok...not perfect (because I didn't make it myself), but good! ;) The cake fell a bit into pieces when the guy behind the counter moved it onto my plate, but he swiftly gave me a discount, which was pretty neat... Coffee: Decent, nothing special, sadly. They do offer anything you could wish for in coffee specialities, but they taste just like every other (chain) coffee shop down the road, and they definitely have to practise a bit more on how to use the coffee machine. Shame, really! Service: Slow! I am sure they will get faster as soon as they get the hang of it - opening weeks are always chaotic and confusing - but I sincerely hope they manage to do so soon, because I am already fed up of waiting 5 minutes in front of the counter just because it takes so long to get my coffee done... Bottom line: * Acceptable food & coffee * a bit too slow and chaotic * nothing spectacular, just another coffee shop in a road full of them * They definitely need to try harder!

Every aspect of the cappuccino was great! The interior is all mainly hand made as I saw them literally build the place up from the ground. The café has a real homey feel to it, the owners seem to work there everyday and remember me from my previous visits. Kaffe Horna has multiple pastries also available, the same kind I've seen and had at Ikea, so of course they are delicious. The coffee is a bit on the pricer side but it is some sort of special coffee blend according to the multiple awards, so I'll say it's justifiable. All in all it's a great place to take a short break or pick up that morning coffee on your way to work!
