The MC Escher museum was very interesting and admission is currently 11 Euros. You'll get to see various famous artwork by MC Escher, such as the Drawing Hands, Sky & Water, Eye, and etc. They had the Andy Warhol exhibit during our visit and the museum showcased some portraits by Andy Warhol. We were here for 1.5 hours and took our time exploring the museum. The museum has a locker room where you can lock up your backpack and jackets. BTW, don't forget to look up and around the museum. There were many beautiful chandlers hanging from the ceiling.

This museum was my main reason for wanting to visit the Hague. I am a fan of Escher's work, yet I only knew a few of his pieces before visiting. The museum is housed in the former winter palace of Queen Emma, the current King of the Netherlands' great grandmother. Mixed in with displays of Escher's works are small informational tidbits about the palace, and two rooms dedicated to the royal family and a few of their belongings. It seems like an odd mash up, and it is, but it also works, because the 2 royal rooms are towards the end of the formal tour and at the beginning of the interactive bits. You can start anywhere you want, but we started on the first floor and worked our way up. The exhibit starts with Escher's earliest works and explains what his life was like and how he came into doing the types of art that he's known for. The second floor is full of pieces from when he finally found his groove...the wacky perspective pieces, transitional pieces, etc. The third floor is where all the interactive exhibits are: a room where the perspective makes you look either like a giant or an elf, "the" mirrored ball, you inside a box that isn't really there, a painting that, from one direction looks 3D, but if you look at it straight on, is 1 dimensional. After all this fun, you head back down to the first floor to the gift shop. There is a small cafe and bathrooms in the basement, but I can't speak to either of those. The gift shop is small, but full of interesting stuff from postcards and shirts to books and puzzles. You can buy magnets and small prints of the artwork you just saw, as well, and prices were not out of line. When you get worn out from seeing all the governmental and political sites in the Hague, visit here! It's beautiful, quiet, and a nice break from the city. 37/2019

Fabulous mind of architecture. Truly thankful for the different minds so our minds can be expanded and inspired. My guess is the producer of Squid Games was inspired by Escher. Do not miss this museum.

I have been a fan of Escher's work since my freshman year of high school. I love the patterns within patterns that is his style. When I made plans to go to the Netherlands, this was an absolute must for me. The museum is housed in the former place of Queen Emma. The beauty of the palace combined with Escher's work created a very unique and joyful experience for me.

This is a must for Escher fans, and it's best to not go alone since the third floor interactive experiences (photo prints cost extra) are more impactful with another person for perspective. A room geared for kids as an audience is set up on the first floor. The gift shop by the entrance was full of neat souvenirs: magnets, puzzles, paperweights, etc. Lighting wasn't the best, but the progression of M.C. Escher's work is fascinating to behold. It should take you less than hour to experience the entirety of this small museum.

If you're in den Haag, this is a must-see! Heck if you're in the Netherlands, you should still take the Intercity train and come see this! It's only about 45 min ride from Amsterdam costing you about €15 for the fare. I've known Escher since I was a kid. His works about perspectives, space, infinity have always fascinated me. How can these stairs appear to be never ending? How can water flow uphill?? I love science, and Escher is an artist who loves it too and has the talent and patience to create and make art, even better, he actually studied the hard subject of crystallography which had direct influence on his works! Not only his works were amazing to look at, the museum was once a royal palace with embellished walls and ceilings with crazy chandeliers. And better yet, the entrance fee was 9,50 € only and accepts one of the silver passes of the Holland Pass. We easily spent 2 hours here. My boyfriend who never heard of MC Escher before enjoyed his visit so much, being mesmerized by each and every of Escher's work. MC Escher is awesome and we're lucky to have been to this museum!

This only really looked like moving waves from far away. One of my favorites at the museum.

Escher's art and even some of the interior architecture (spiral staircase) inside this museum lends itself to optical illusion. It's only €10 but well worth the money. Some of Escher's art work has shapes, animals, even play with perspective. Looking at his work will definitely play with your mind but in a good way it's a nice break from the classical artwork you see in the other museums here.

Very cool, interactive 3-floor museum dedicated the Dutch master of optical illusion, Escher. Separated by sections based on technique used (wood carving, mirror illusion, tesselations). Interactive exhibits make this a good place for older kids (maybe 10+). Try taking a silly picture in the distorted room on the 3rd floor. Effect is interesting to see and you are not forced to purchase. Bottom Line: Must see if visiting The Hague. Allocate at least a few hours to get the full experience.

I'm a huge Escher fan and was pleasantly surprise to find this museum when looking for things to do at the Hague. Note: go early or late as it opens or closes... school groups like going here too and the noise level goes up. This museum was in what used to be a royal residence so had information about both Esher and the royals who lived there. The museum itself was quite taking... be sure to take notice not only of the paintings, but of the chandeliers in each room. I looked up to happily find a skull and crossbones one upon which I started looking up in every room. When I think Esher, the paintings I think of are here... from his tessellations to "Reptiles" to "Waterfall." There were also some I was not familiar with but are now new favorites. The top floor has activities for younger visitors (or just younger on the inside) including a room playing with perspective and other stations exploring optical illusions. Also, the gift shop ladies were nice and spoke decent english. I tried to get a 3D print and they were helpful in trying to make sure I got what I wanted when they were sold out of my first choice (got my second).

The facility didn't strike me as stupendous but I quite liked its simplicity. It was once a German warehouse during WWII. The reflecting ponds on both sides of the entry way provide a serene setting. There are free lockers and a coat-check service. The gift shop and the cafe can be found on the ground level. If you are into modern art, this is the right place. The gallery houses great pieces from famous Dutch and international artists such as Mondrian, van Doesburg, Picasso and Monet. Some contemporary creations are also on display. Apart from the major artworks in neo-plasticism and such, on this well-timed visit, they had also curated an immense collection from Givenchy titled "To Audrey with Love." Even though I am completely out of my element when it comes to haute couture, I have heard of the celebrated fashion designer and have seen many of Audrey Hepburn's films. These dresses were beautifully handcrafted and reminded me of the movie scenes. Frequent ooh's and aah's from museum guests filled the halls. This was a rather pleasant visit and we were glad to have caught the temporary exhibition. Time just slipped away before we realized we had spent the afternoon in here.

The scale of some of the painting is phenomenal! My only qualm would be that it wasn't obvious where to get the leaflet from so I had no idea what paintings I was looking at (except for a few more famous ones). Lovely way to take a moment out of your busy day and appreciate the art. I really enjoyed the prison exhibit in the same location. It was harrowing to see some of the old torture devices and read about the ways prisoners were held. If you're visiting with children, I think they'd really enjoy the prison exhibit. The passage way with the old cells was very cool to see! It is not clear at all how the layout of this museum works so I'd advise researching before you go so you don't miss anything. When I first got there I thought it was only the painting gallery room! I agree with the other reviewer that it's pretty difficult to see the paintings high on the wall, and with some glare from external lighting. A visit should take less than half an hour, barring crowded conditions. The entry fee is very affordable, given that it's a private collection; pro-tip: visit the Mauritshuis, and that ticket will earn you complimentary admission to this collection. They also allowed me to redeem the offer the following day, when I visited the other museum on a day this gallery was closed.

Dat maakt het museum zo bijzonder. U stapt in de voetsporen van gevangenen. Geschiedenis: Het jaar 1280.
