This was a lot of fun! We did Hopper's cabin fir the Stranger Things fans out there. They gave us special directions to get to the location which was pretty easy to find. Our game master met us about 15 minutes before our start time. It was a short dark walk to the cabin. He gave us the instructions inside because it was very cold out. Once we got inside it reminded me of Stranger Things, and it was pretty awesome. The room was freezing but they did have a small heater. We were able to take pics he just asked us not to take pics of the clues, which is completely understandable. We had an hour to complete our task which were were able to. There were 9 ppl in our party. So leaving the venue was difficult probably because it was night time and I believe he said it was a sixty acre farm. The pricing was low and I'd even say a steal for the experience. The game master provided clear concise instructions. His enthusiasm really set the tone for the game. He also gave us all the fun facts and details about how the cabin exterior and some interior was actually part of the Stranger Things set. The game challenge level was just the right level of difficulties and the clues and theme as a whole was very well thought out. This was definitely a gem we stumbled across in our visit to Atlanta and arguably one of the highlights of our trip. 10/10, would definitely recommend. read more

If you have read my other reviews, you've probably figured out that my wife and I have become Stranger Things nerds and our trip to Georgia was inspired by the show's filming locations. One of which can be found at Sleepy Hollow farm. The farm doesn't have just a grassy field where they filmed (although they did film the pumpkin patch scenes here, too) the farm holds a very special place for fans of the show- police chief Jim Hopper's cabin! The production crew built the cabin on the farm and the farm uses it between filming as, get this, an escape room! Now, my wife and I had never done an escape room before, but when we learned that we could actually go into the actual set where so many of those cool scenes were filmed, well we quickly decided to go to Sleepy Hollow farm and check it out. It did not disappoint. The "game master" was a sweet girl that gave us some great background information about the show and filming before she gave us the rules and set us up in Hopper's cabin. While we were geeking out, right at first, about being IN the actual movie set, we quickly set out on solving the mystery (which I won't divulge here, so not to ruin the fun for you). It was a bit tricky, but we were successful in solving the puzzle with just under two minutes to spare (which I thought was pretty good for our first time ever doing this sort of thing). The game master validated our pomposity by telling us that this particular game only has a 35% success rate! Maybe she was just telling us that to make us feel good about ourselves or maybe it was true and it was just beginners luck, but either way, we solved it and had an amazing time doing it! We had plenty of time to take pictures afterwards and the game master was very accommodating and even took some cool photos for us. There are lots of other fun things to do on the farm and, if you've got little ones, I highly recommend the outdoor obstacle course and the petting zoo. As for cost, it was probably a bit more expensive than a regular escape room experience, but for the memories we made, the pictures we have and the overall experience- it was well worth it! read more

In the spirit of Halloween, our escape room team (Team Bad Math), decided to take on The Cabin at Escape Woods in Powder Springs on October 30, 2016. Escape Woods is part of Sleepy Hollow Farms, which is a giant 60-acre property about 25 miles west of Atlanta. The farm itself was a good 34-minute drive from my home in Midtown. It's a hike. Once on the property, you have to drive a good bit on dirt roads to get to Escape Woods. At night, there's minimal to no street lighting which, as we drove in, really helped set the eerie mood ahead of time. Escape Woods has three outdoor escape room games: The Cabin, The Dig, and The Bunker. The Cabin is literally a cabin in the woods. The premise is it belongs to a future serial killer and you're trapped inside. You have one hour before the killer returns to make you his first victim. All the clues you need to escape the cabin are inside. What I like about this escape room compared to the others I've done (I've played 28 different rooms up to this point) is its realism. Not only do you have to drive to the sticks to a farm, but then you have to drive on a series of dirt roads to get to the entry point on the edge of the woods, then walk through the woods to the cabin itself. It's desolate and seriously out in the middle of nowhere. You're in an actual cabin and it's dirty. You're not in an air-conditioned office building in the city. I barely had any signal on my phone. Unlike other escape rooms where you get a nice briefing before the timer starts, at The Cabin, you are led into the cabin, the door slams shut, and you're bruskly told you have one hour. The cabin looks just like the type of place where a maniac would hole himself up and live. It's messy, dirty, and filled with all sorts of vile and disturbing stuff (not for kids). Of all the rooms I've done, I've never felt more overwhelmed with the amount of material and potential clues that this room contained -- books, notes, pages, scribblings, pictures, etc. It was a lot to take in and process. My main gripe with the room is there was too much material and "trash" that deterred from actual clue-finding. Then again, it did help with the realism of the environment and I give a lot of credit to the designers for the work they put in. It's realistic. If you're serious about escaping, you will have to get your hands dirty to search for clues, so be prepared. It was actually so filthy that afterwards, we were blowing dust and lint out of our noses. Gross. The Cabin regularly costs $31.64 per person ($28 + $3.64 tax per ticket), but I paid $31.50 for two people ($15.75 per person) thanks to my friend who bought a Groupon deal. Hopefully, the deals will still be available if you decide to go. We brought a group of 8, which is the maximum number of people allowed for The Cabin. Due to the small size of the cabin, it did feel a little claustrophobic at times. In fact, I think it may have been easier to solve the room with less people for the simple fact that there would be less of a chance of someone inadvertently physically blocking a clue, which is kind of what happened to us. Despite all the dirt, dust, and grime, at least the restrooms are nice and clean. The staff was nice. In the end, we had a good time and have already talked about coming back to try The Dig and The Bunker. read more

CURSE OF THE DRAGON MAZE: Tl;dr: This is a great maze. If you are trying to team build though, it is easy to get separated and not work together. If you have never done an escape room, it is not beginner friendly. You should know how to work together, when to ask for hints and what kind of puzzles to expect bc it's even harder to get help when the game masters can't see you and you're lost and you don't know what's going on. This was a wonderful experience and I LOVED it, but not for beginners! For context, I've done a few escape rooms and have a core team who I work well with, but I went to this one with a group of newly-met coworkers to try and team build. I'd never done an outdoor escape room and they hadn't done ANY escape rooms and thus with this being a maze, they got separated and stopped working and communicating with each other. They also didn't know the protocol with asking clues and hints and therefore we ran out of time (though we did technically escape). This is just to say that all of that is on US, not Escape Woods! This is such a fun time! It's a giant maze made out of wood palettes, but there's also set building integrated into it. I recommend doing it at night with lanterns, it looks super cool (though it is a bit harder, but worth it imo). Doors move and open, though mostly what it is finding the path to a door with a padlock. You'll have to work out the code, and then that goes to the next door and the next. It's basically a padlock based maze but you do get a chance to separate and work on different doors (the downfall of my team lol). It def has an "outdoor camp" feel in the best way possible. I would recommend reading the description online before doing it bc it goes a bit deeper into the lore/story of the maze than what's written in the actual maze itself. It is not spooky, and was a great time, even my team agreed that they all had fun. Again, I don't think it's the most beginner friendly just bc you should know how an escape room works and how some of the puzzles typically go, but like I said, as long as you've done one or two this is DEF worth it. The guides were amazing and lovely. Fun fact, we originally wanted to do the Pig Farmer but couldn't book it in time. Once we failed the maze I asked the guides how hard the maze was compared to Pig Farmer and they looked at us and said "This one is considered easy" so THAT worked out in our favor lol! Two of my friends and I tried the Clown escape room that's meant for 18+ year olds. We came in on a Saturday night. The drive to the place at night is creepy all by itself. We got there late but they fit us in at the last minute. The group consisted of about 8 or 9 people including the 3 of us. You have an hour to escape and we made it out in about 45 minutes with a little help along the way. The "cabin" is in the woods. If u scare easy then u may think it's scary but we were so concerned with solving the riddles it wasn't that scary to me. Great staff. Very friendly. read more

Did THE BUNKER: AFERTMATH!! Loved it, first time ever. The drive in was a lil weird for City folk, thought we were in the wrong place. Passed a pig pen, a Christmas tree farm, and pumpkin patch. Looks shady but matches its name. The host was a lil spooky looking but cool and she did her creep resting face. Our first escape room, we didn't get out but we were told we found the most of any other group so I'll guess no one has yet to escape. First of all, staff was nice. In fact, staff was downright cool. But the facility and the actual escape challenge (The Dig) lacked on several fronts. The operation has potential, but it doesn't deliver. Finding Sleepy Hollow Farms is easy, but once you get in, finding the Escape Woods area is kind-of tricky. We had three carloads of friends coming in for this experience, and none of us were told the same directions to the Escape Woods location within the compound. While plenty of signs pointed the way to the exit, none of them pointed to the Escape Woods area. One of us was told to look for a big, metal shipping container. Except that it was covered in pallets... One of our friends properly bought a ticket, but his name did not appear on the docket. The Escape challenge itself got off to a late start. A "tractor traffic jam" delayed things quite a bit. The facility admits ten people for each session of The Dig challenge. This is too many people. (It should be limited to no more than eight. Six might even be better.) Not only is ten people too crowded, there is simply not enough for ten people to do for each step of the challenge. Folks were often just standing around. The set up and deciphering of clues got off to a nice start, but the remainder of the challenge seemed way too linear, and not at all mysterious. Clues seemed almost random. Some lighting features weren't working, and the water feature wasn't working. Not to mention the yellow-jackets which stung my friend. Turns out they knew about the yellow-jacket nest but didn't warn us. And once my friend had been stung, they didn't give us the option to come back another day or to try the other escape scenario. Did I mention there were no liability waivers for us to sign at the start? Sloppy. On the plus side: The maze itself was cool. The bathroom facilities are really nice. And there is a lot of potential for things to be better. I hope they continue to make improvements. read more

A lot of the puzzles were either not working properly or didn't work at all. Unlike other rooms, the communication with staff is via walkie talkie, which is fine except when the batteries go out. Since we had several Stranger Things fans in our group of 8, we did the Hopper's Cabin escape room on a Friday night at 7:30pm. It was a cold evening (38 degrees outside). The farm is difficult to find since it was pitch black outside, but we found it! Since it was so dark you really couldn't see the outside of the cabin. This was unfortunate since the outside of the cabin is the only thing that is original from the movie. It would have been nice if the outside was lit up so you could take pictures of the cabin. It was very cold inside the cabin even though they had a couple of space heaters going. They could have used a few more. The Escape Room experience left a lot to be desired. It felt very amateurish! Some of the locks didn't work even after we solved the code. The attendant had to come in twice to wiggle the lock to open it. There seemed to be no direction in the riddles other than opening locks. The attendant was kind of odd. When our time expired, she came in didn't say anything to us and started preparing the room for the next group. We stood there waiting for her to explain what we missed and was startled by us just staring at her and waiting for her explanation! If you do this Escape Room, I'd recommend doing it during the day and when the temperature is at least 60 degrees! read more

A bit of a drive to get there but easy to find. The Christmas Tree part of the farm was in full swing so we maneuvered around all that traffic and were directed to Hopper's Cabin parking. What a wonderful experience! We took a group of 20 12-14 year olds for a 13th birthday party. Half of the kids did Hopper's Cabin Escape Room and the other half of the group did the Dragon Maze. Both groups had a BLAST. My daughter said that this is the best birthday she has had in a long time. After it was over, we had pizza and cake on their picnic tables and one of the people who is on staff gave the kids a brilliant description of the events from Stranger Things that have been filmed on the property. They loved every minute of it and I can't imagine anyone being more helpful or hands on. If you want a stress free birthday party experience for your tween, this is it! We did Hopper's Cabin with 10 people. We went as a group of 5, and there was another group of 5 to make a full group of 10 people. The room just did not have enough for 10 people to do/solve/find, and it did not have enough steps (at all!!) to make the room a little bit challenging. We solved the room in 33 minutes. While it was super cool that this was the actual filming site from Stranger Things and that the cabin's interior was modeled after what was in the film, the actual curation of things inside the cabin was really really sloppy. Cons: -- There were things that looked like clues that were not clues (simple things like colored tags from goodwill that could have VERY easily been removed), and clues that looked NOTHING like clues (random serial numbers that happened to be on the front of an object). -- When asked how most people figured one of the puzzles out, the game leaders mentioned "Siri". That's not how escape rooms work. -- There was next to no light in the cabin. All of us were using our phone lights the entire time. There should be torchlights to find and use in there, or lamps to plug in (there were lamps, they were plugged in, but they didn't work.) -- You needed to know quite a fair bit of information from the TV show "Stranger Things", which was not an issue for us, but would have been an issue for many others. -- We also felt that this was a really expensive room. $33 for the ticket, and with taxes and fees, it was almost $38 per person. This is not a good escape room, unfortunately. The premise was great, the location a plus. If only it was a good room. read more

Its just so different being outside and having so much more stuff to work with. My friend and I did the cabin - it was my first escape room. The groups are in 8 so we were with 6 (thankfully) fantastic strangers who were smart. Our group worked well together, no one got frustrated. Unless you are going to book all friends, pack your sense of humor and leave your emotional support animals at home. It is a beautiful farm and likely would have been creepy had we come at night. I wouldn't say the cabin is scary, but there are some nice jumps when you're focused on finding clues. And it's about a 1/2 mile walk through the woods to get there. I was at the back of the line, which added to the jumps when things started happening, which they did while we were walking. Bring comfortable shoes. It is a VERY small space. I'm a small girl and with eight people it was hot and sweaty. No windows, one door - well, two with the escape hatch. It is very well thought out. For such a small area, it is packed with red herrings to throw you off base. The staff are very friendly and gave us tons of clues which helped us find things quickly. I wouldn't call it R rated, there is some foul language, but I think our group was more vulgar than the staff. The room is icky with lots of gross stuff and odors - I wouldn't have changed a thing. It's also very dusty, so if you have asthma, take a hit of that inhaler before you go in like I did. We finally stopped blessing people when the sneezes hit about 20. We finished in 40 minutes. You have an hour. We were very organized though and working with each other rather than against. We found the items we needed very quickly after being given clues. The staff are funny and pleasant, and after cursing at you during the challenge, were quick to give us a big hooray when we made it out. Fresh air never smelled so sweet. Hint, if something says do not open, trust me do NOT open it. Odors, y'all. read more

Had such an amazing time with friends even during these Covid times. We were able to escape the Fight Night course with a minute to spare. Just want to give a HUGE shoutout to our game master aka "snake eyes" who helped us out tremendously! Not only did she help us out she also helped to create a cool and spooky vibe. "A number of serial killers have had long intervals of time between kills." -- Criminal Minds: Season 8 | Episode 19 So many things I enjoyed about this place - very different from your typical escape experience for sure. However, technical difficulties caused a bit of a problem for our (Team Bad Math) experience taking on The Cabin. How I wish they had let us know before entering the room - I think it would have explained a lot, and maybe helped us, but I think that since this was such a different experience, it may not have. Note - this is not what you are used to if you do a lot of escape room experiences. And for most, this will be quite a haul to get to. I'm glad they offer a Groupon as I probably spent some of that money I saved on the car trip out to Powder Springs. But we did love the new and different feel. First, you are in the middle of nowhere. Escape Woods is the right name as you really are in the woods. They also have other experiences to try and the team is pretty committed to coming back for more, despite the fact that we didn't escape. I do dislike the lack of timer in the room - so I did set my phone timer to an hour when we got locked in. The premise - you are lost in the woods and get locked in a cabin... a creepy guy is trying to get into the cabin and if you do not escape, he will become a serial killer by killing you and your team. If you have OCD (I have a bit), this cabin will drive you batty as it is a disaster. Talk about an immersive experience. You really feel like you are in the mind of a crazy person. The filth alone was enough to make me mad. This isn't typical - there was not briefing or backstory. You are dropped off in the woods and a stranger comes out of nowhere and locks you in his cabin and you are off to the races - no timer (I started one on my phone). Everything you have (or need) is in this room. It's truly overwhelming and so much to take in. And did I mention the filth? My asthma was a mess for days. Also, this was a very tight space for the 8 people we had - we were bumping into each other and tripping over items - too much to take in for such a tiny space. There is so much in this small space, it messes with those of us who do rooms regularly. I'd like to do their other rooms, even though we didn't escape. But I think The Cabin needs work. Also, if your camera system is down, tell the escapees beforehand. And if you are going to make people dig around in dirt, forewarning on your website would also be a good thought. We'd have brought hand sanitizer or handi-wipes. Nasty. read more

This was my second time at Escape Woods and it is probably my absolute favorite place to do an escape room! (I've tried 3 other places too!) The staff, and by staff I mean Evan, was fabulous during our event. He was funny and down to earth and helpful! OMG.... this place is the BEST!!! So on a Sunday afternoon, a group of friends and myself decided to celebrate a friends birthday by doing an escape room. After researching for weeks we came across this place. We didn't inform the entire group of the type of room that we were doing, needless to say they were all shock and partly terrified. We selected to do the cabin room which was rated R. From start to end the staff there was awesome!!! Part of our group was 15 mins late because the place is hard to find, however the staff didn't rush us or cut our time short. If anything their friendliness added to the storyline because as we waited they told us more history about the property (which is huge and fun for the whole family). After our brief walk in the woods i can say even in the day time this place is freaky. Tip: don't do to this place in clean clothes, because it truly is an outside experience which makes it better that other escape room we have done in Atlanta. The room was complicated and left us feeling inadequate for a moment. Seriously we were a group of college students but could not figure out a single puzzle without a clue from the game master. Speaking of the game master he was awesome!!! We did choose a rated R room and he gave us our money's worth. Long story short we did escape the cabin with 16mins left. This place was awesome and slightly terrifying in the beginning. I can only imagine what this experience is like at night. They staff and owner were very nice. Now that that's out of the way, the escape room was eh. None of the clues really worked well together nor did they make sense. The staff had to give clues through the walkie in order for everyone to figure out the next step. Things were randomly hidden with no explanation. The clues were so poorly done that no one had fun. We were a mixed group of 8, and everyone just ended up frustrated and mad by the end of it. Pass. read more
