We stopped in once, standing in the foyer and no one came to acknowledge us. We were looking to taste some wines. Came back late and they were setting up a tasting for some people but again, we were ignored, so we left.
We returned the food day, unfortunately. This time we walked in to ask about a tasting. We booked one for an hour later. We went to the Páteo across the street to wait. Highly recommend their craft cocktails.
When we returned to the wine shop for our tasting, the woman acted as though it was an imposition to help us. She literally poured first taste saying "Here is your wine" about to run out into the street to talk to her friends. But she stopped short long enough to tell us the name of the winery and what we were tasting. Then she left us alone with a sample of white wine, She was gone forever. I got up to browse the wines on the walk. I thought maybe that was all we would get to try but it didn't seem right. Finally, she returned. Poured taste and left. Each time she left. We went to the walk to select the bottles of wines we wanted. We bought 2 from the 4 we tasted. 1 organic red wine. One red that was more expensive version of the red we tried & 25 Euro. And a grape jam.
We schlepped the wine back to to Airbnb and went to open a bottle, only to discover she had given us the wrong white. So off we went back to the store. The women was there. N apology or nothing. Then they charge us an additional Euro. They acted like they couldn't change my 20 euro bill and wanted me to use my US credit card for one euro. For their mistake, they insisted on us paying the additional Euro.
Okay fine. We open the organic one. The sediment is insane!!
When I got the 25 euro bottle from its holder, it was covered with dirt, like it had rolled on the ground.
We tasted the two reds today. "Why did we think we like these," we wondered.. It's a shame because now I am reticent to try any wine from the Alentejo region at all. read more
