I'm a guy. I'm a guy who likes video games. I have a DVD collection that includes at least four Batman movies and all of the Lord Of The Rings (extended versions). I have a book collection that is in the early thousands. I say all this to let you know that when it comes to jewellery I am a blank slate. I don't know what's good, or what's bad, or what's in fashion or not. I know what a ring is. And about 50% of the time I can tell the difference between a bracelet and a necklace, but that's as far as my expertise carries me.
Luckily, Ernest Jones are a caring bunch. I walked in there, looking bedazzled and confused by the array of shiny, glittery things and the staff took me under their wing.
They asked me what kind of thing I was looking for.
"Necklace."
Ok, what metal?
"Dunno."
Ah. Well what does she like to wear.
"These things (description)."
Hmmm. Perhaps some white gold. What colour are her eyes?
"Blue."
