Most of the houses in Colorado Springs have a shut off valve that turns off the water to the dishwasher and your kitchen sink. They now want a shut valve for your sink and another one for your dishwasher. This requires a plumber shut off the water to your house and install the extra valve. WHY! Who got paid off to pass this law so plumbers can make more money?

It is a very clean city and beautiful city. I took a day trip up here from Denver. The highest mountain in Colorado, Pike's Peak, is located just outside the city and is a must see. It is amazing, if the weather allows you to go all the way up to the top. Now there is a little town called Manitou Springs that is also right outside of Colorado Springs. That has some very nice shops and restaurants to stop and visit on your way to Pikes Peak. It also has flowing springs located along the sidewalk that you can taste the water. Now, I will admit that the water is an acquired taste and had too much of a calcium taste for me, but hey, at least I gave it a shot. Other attractions in or very near the city include the National Museum of WWII Aviation and Helen Hunt Falls. I have been here a few times and have always been amazed by the cities beauty and it Red Rock formations. This should be on the top of your list to visit in Colorado.

The biggest difference was that I was calling from the UK and we can't reach 911 if we hang up and call that number. Whilst it was a challenge getting through to the right extension, it only took a few moments and a gentleman named Steve answered and took my information. He listened carefully and immediately relayed the information to the proper channels and let me know that help was on the way. Everything was handled so calmly and patiently that it helped me remain calm as well...well, to the best of my ability as a worried mother and grandmother. Honestly, the miles melted away and I knew they would be all right. And they were! The problems were checked into and my daughter and her children were looked after with great care. So thank you, Steve, and all the people at the police department, the fire chief and fire crew and the ambulance team! Thank you to all of you for being the professional and caring people that you are! You are deeply appreciated!

Overall, I would have to say that the experiences have been very very poor. It seems like very few people had any understanding of what they were doing. First, the day of my small claims case, though I came down and observed the regular magistrate a dozen times in the previous weeks, I had the unfortunate luck of a substitute magistrate. She was in such a hurry to get to other cases done that she came across as scatterbrained and was not focusing on my case when we were in front of her. I clearly explained what I was trying to achieve in a holding a second defendant accountable if the first one did not pay me back. I explained this to her numerous times because she didn't seem to understand. She was so unfocused that she did not clearly instruct me/us that both defendants needed to sign the stipulation in order for me to achieve my goal of holding them both accountable. If it had been the primary magistrate, she probably would have found against the defendants simply because one showed up 30 minutes late and the other one was over an hour late making a circus out of the entire thing from the beginning until the end. We were in the process of finalizing everything when the second defendant came in the door. What we had talked about was that it would be a default judgment against the second defendant if he did not show up. ALL she needed to tell me was that he needed to sign the form as well as the primary defendant. It was a total cluster. In the courthouse both defendants agreed to be responsible. This means we sign a stipulation and they have 30 days to pay me. The second defendant, that was over an hour late, verbally agreed to be responsible if the first defendant did not pay me, but no one ever mentioned that both defendants needed to sign the stipulation. The judge handed us over to the clerk and was no longer paying attention to help verify the things were done correctly. Since I have never been in a court room, and this is small claims court, a person needs a judge that's paying attention. Because the "fill in" magistrate did not do a thorough job, I, the plaintiff, got screwed out of $7500, $8200 If you include all the fees including serving the defendants and the total amount that this guy really owed me. Next, in dealing with the clerks office for many things including filing motions, figuring out how to properly fill out the paperwork, and trying to get an interrogatory sent, out of ALL my visits I think I had two people who were knowledgeable and seem to know what they were doing and 9 or 10 who had no clue and either gave me such general information it was useless, or flat out wrong information. Up to two stars for the couple clerks that did answer questions correctly and knew their jobs. Overall, my advice is that if you have to use the criminal justice system here in Colorado Springs, it is not helpful for small claims plaintiffs looking for assistance on things as simple as how to fill out more than two defendants on a form, much less anything more complicated. I suggest it's worth the extra effort to try to find a lawyer to help you maneuver your way through the system, even if it is a small claims case. The whole thing was a joke and the crook, who has now stolen over $38,000 between four people, and seemed to know how to manipulate the system, wins.

Community Alternatives of El Paso County: a place so mismanaged and broken it's like they set out…read moreto create the world's worst example of "rehabilitation." From the moment you step inside, you realize this isn't about helping anyone--it's about squeezing every possible dollar out of human suffering while giving the absolute bare minimum in return. The conditions? Laughable, if they weren't so tragic. The building looks like it hasn't seen a repair crew since the Reagan administration, with peeling paint, broken fixtures, and a pervasive stench that makes you wonder if the HVAC system is recycling despair. The beds are glorified slabs of foam that would make a prison cot feel luxurious, and the food? A mystery mush that seems designed to break your spirit, one bite at a time. But the real horror show is the staff--a collection of the most unqualified, undertrained, and uninterested individuals you'll ever meet. These are people who think "empathy" is a setting on a washing machine. Case managers don't know the first thing about case management, and they're too busy scrolling on their phones or botching paperwork to care. Half of them wouldn't know a DSM diagnosis from a grocery list, and the other half think "just try harder" is a legitimate treatment plan. Decisions are inconsistent, rules change depending on who you talk to, and when something inevitably goes wrong, the staff's go-to move is to shrug and pass the blame. And let's not forget why all this chaos exists: money. This isn't a facility--it's a cash cow for BlackRock and its greedy shareholders, who couldn't care less about rehabilitation as long as the checks keep rolling in. Residents are nothing more than dollar signs in this rigged game. They'll delay your parole with bogus violations, "misplace" your paperwork, or outright lie to justify keeping you longer. Every extra day you're trapped here is more profit for their corporate overlords. Programs and therapy sessions are just window dressing to hide the fact that this is a warehouse for human misery, designed to churn people through the system and keep them coming back. If hell had a halfway house, it would be this place. The conditions are inhumane, the staff are incompetent to the point of negligence, and the entire operation is a thinly-veiled scam. It doesn't rehabilitate anyone--it grinds them down, ensuring they leave angrier, more traumatized, and more hopeless than when they arrived. Community Alternatives isn't a second chance; it's a trap, and the only thing it's rehabilitating is BlackRock's profit margin.
