Based on the other two reviews, we opted for the EDC over Howarth Park. While my daughter probably would've enjoyed Howarth a lot, my wife and I both wanted something more low key that afternoon. The EDC was perfect. A laidback experience for us parents but still very stimulating for the kids. The exhibits are very interactive and the kids get to touch everything! We also got to feed some of the animals. We only met one staff person but she was extremely pleasant and so accommodating with all my daughter's requests. There's plenty to see, but it's not overwhelming. Starfish, mussels, anemones, corn snakes, turtles, even hissing cockroaches. Just a quick tip: if you follow the paved path from the parking area, you'll end up at the bathrooms and the trailhead. It's easy to miss the EDC because it's actually at a higher level than the bathroom building. So if you're facing the trailhead, turn left!

Hidden gem! I took 4 kids under 4 to this place and had a blast! Art, play area, rude pool, live animals, stuffed animals, butterflies, do much! And free! Very cool place!

Peanuts are her favorite, it's about 50 to an hour drive with traffic. Very easy to get to once we were there. It's in a beautiful little neighborhood. Plenty of parking. The museum itself has a lot of interesting things to read about and the history of Charles and how he started some interesting things I had never knew. The gift shop is very small not much to purchase. But we did discover if you cross the way there's an ice rink and they sell snacks there and then next to that there's a store that has tons of peanut merchandise.

The entire Schulz campus, including the gift shop and the ice rink is an experience. You will want to give yourself a few hours to fully experience this place. Up stairs, there is an area where you can sit and color and also trace your favorite peanut characters. They provide all the supplies to make your own paper Snoopy Dog House. It is very cute. The museum as several great picture opportunities throughout the museum. Even the bathrooms are themed with Peanuts characters on the tiles. In addition to enjoying the museum, I also highly recommend doing the "Peanuts on Parade". There are Peanut status all throughout the Santa Rosa area. Over 100 of them!!! We challenged ourself to find and take a picture with all of them. We got about 120 before we ran out of time. It's free, other than your time and gas to drive around, but it was an extended part of the Peanuts experience that we absolutely enjoyed.

Be Still My Art Art…read moreand history museum located in the heart of Downtown Santa Rosa that's been celebrating the region's history and art scene for over forty years (ca. 1985). The Good: *More than the name implies, as it's not just a history museum but also an art museum, as well as a sculpture garden. *Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. *$12/adult, $10/senior, and $6/kid makes this an inexpensive option for things to do, especially on a rainy day. *The art section of this museum is truly incredible. There were some truly beautiful pieces of art on display here that left us mesmerized. The Meh: *Only open Wed - Sun. *The history section of this museum was just OK, but maybe it just didn't hold up to the art portion. The Ugly: *Paid street parking only. Conclusion: Great little museum to come check out when visiting the area and a good way to kill an hour or two.

Got it--here's a sharper, more satirical version that still lands well as a review:…read more We visited the Sonoma Children's Museum and quickly learned it's less "children's museum" and more "rule enforcement training facility." At the water play area, my child took off his shoes (you know... at a water feature), and we were immediately told he could only use his hands--not his feet. I explained this to him, he was listening, all good... or so I thought. A few minutes later, the same staff member circled back like we were committing a repeat offense, and then a supervisor came rushing out like there was an actual emergency. In front of everyone, she asked my son, "Where is your parent?"--which felt unnecessarily dramatic and honestly a bit humiliating for a kid who was doing his best to follow directions. Then came the lecture. I got a full, very intense Public reprimand and rundown about hand, foot, and mouth disease, delivered with the urgency of a public health crisis... over a kid standing near water without shoes on. Look, I understand hygiene and safety. But the energy here was wildly disproportionate. It felt less like a place for kids to explore and more like a place where adults hover, monitor, and correct every move. If your idea of a fun outing involves being policed over minor things, you'll love it. If you're hoping for a relaxed, kid-friendly environment... maybe adjust expectations.

The outdoor and indoor areas of the museum are sooo packed with lots for kids to explore, learn, play, and engage. One of my son's favorite activities was the outdoor water play area. There's also bikes to ride, two classrooms for art and block play, a huge outdoor area for snacks and climbing around, a mud garden / kitchen, and also an indoor area that is more typical of a children's museum but so well kept and clean. My son loved the train tracks inside, the space section, the fruit tubes, and over-all it was a lovely location and I'd happily go back.

It was fun talking to all of the volunteers on site about the interesting stories they had about the planes, activities and learning more about the history of the planes on site. The planes aren't open to walk in during rainy weather but are open during certain times of the year so be sure to check that out before you go in case it is something you want to do. They also have some hot dog days if that is of interest to you as well. Many of the planes and helicopters they have on site are in impressive condition and some need some maintenance or a new paint job. It is wonderful to know that our donations go toward maintaining everything on site. All of the volunteers we saw that day were all so friendly and obviously enjoy what they do. As we understand it, they will be relocating in the future so we look forward to returning to the museum for another visit and to see what they do with all of the interesting artifacts they currently have on display. It was fun to see some of the old airplane seats that used to have the ashtrays and sound dials for music in the arm rest. That was a fun memory to reflect on from our flying days from waaaaay back when! Parking was so convenient as it was right outside the entrance. Make sure you check their calendar so you go on days they're open. Please consider making a donation to help the museum continue growing and maintaining everything they have. Go check them out when you have a chance! It was fun to see so many planes in such a small area! Bet it's really interesting to see how they rearrange the layout from time to time!

If you can go on one of those scheduled dates I highly recommend it because they really bring a lot to the experience. We got into town and I called the museum, they did not have any time time available but told us to come on . They made an accommodation. My toddler enjoyed looking and trying to unlocking the cases. The museum was great and bigger then I had expected. The gift shop was awesome too! It was nice to see brands such as NTVS, the old Native Threads before Amy and her sister took over, also seeing the hand made jewelry from California Natives. I did recognize the jewelry even without the labels. It was a bummer that this museum is not apart of the museum for all when my husband asked. Someone should look into that and the museum be removed from the list.
