I am highly dissatisfied with rental agreement from 7/25-8/20. I was charged $587.38 for insurance I did not request, despite being assured by associate Landon that I would only pay a $300 security deposit which would be refunded entirely. Manager Dior was unable to resolve the issue, stating I'd be reimbursed by the other drivers car insurance, which hasn't happened. I've been requesting a refund for two months now. I am writing a review that is the same as Stephanie R. I was charged $213 for insurance that I did not request. Associate Nick assured me, on December 18 2024, that I would be charged a security deposit which would be refunded upon return of vehicle. I returned the vehicle in good condition and received a call from the Hawthorn office the all was well on January 15, 2025. The very same day my card was charged $213.00. I tried to straighten this out by calling the Hawthorn office several times, only to be put on hold indefinitely. I would hang up and call back, only to go straight to recording. I then called customer service in the main office three separate times. Each time I was assured that this would be escalated and taken care of. However, each agent had no record of the previous agent's escalation, so I have no idea if this was moved forward. I'v been dealing with this for over two weeks to no avail. DO NOT use this office. Very disappointed in this location. This location don't even deserve a star. Has this ever happen to anyone out of state trying to rent a car with Enterprise. Reserved and called to confirm reservation. Arrived there 2 mins Before they closed (keep in mind I called and explained that I was going to be there before they closed. They told me to try to make it before 6 and I did. Got there and was ready to get my car, the customer service representative got my info and before anything else. She tells me that I need to provide an address locally to the location for them to release the car. Mind you I leave in upstate New York. How in the world am I going to get that when I live in New York. Did not try to help me AT ALL!! Then the manager not sure. Asks me what are we doing cuz I'm closing Shop and I have to pick up my kids. Understandably we all got family to see and kids to pick up but don't be rude that's all I'm saying. I confirmed with corporate this vehicle did require the payment type he was requesting. Corp told me reservation still in tact go to shop pick up vehicle and can use debit cc . Went to the shop 15 minutes before my appointment time . He said he gave the car away because I said so. I did not cancel it. he decided to cancelbit when he hung up the phone on me prior to this. I told him what corporate said and called them so they can discuss the situation with him. I gave himvthe phone, the customer service rep could not hear him. As I was trying to adjust the phone, He said the systems were closed down, which was a lie, because they were still entering after 12:00 p.m. it was 12:15 . And then he closed the shades. We rent from Enterprise in Hawthorne always and always had amazing customer service but today when I went 3 hours earlier then the reservation time because I got out of work earlier just to ask if there was anyway to get a car earlier. So I ask "Is there anyway to get the car earlier even if it was any other type of vehicle" And The lady that was helping us (her name Azul) responds "If there was a vehicle available I would of told you already so no" Extremely rude and full of attitude with her responses. I love enterprise never had a problem, Today was the they lost my business! I go drop off a car, I was suppose to drop off last night after hours, but decided to hand in the car! Like every other time, hand in the keys and they are okay thank you and hand you your receipt etc.... but because I was supposed to drop it off last night, after hours!! I would get something through the e-mail! THANK GOD I DIDNT!!! Leave the car park on the street! They would have CHARGE ME!! So I hand the keys to the gentleman, (whose chair broke)He goes to the counter- he checks me in, ASKED if everything was fine I said yes! Because it was fine! So, I ask that's it, yup that's it! On my way I go!! He said he was going to, test drive the vehicle! Okay so we walk out! I'm standing outside said okay bye! he looks at me, goes to the car! Get inside the car !!! I'm leaving, In my own vehicle, when my husband tells me that the guy is calling me back!! I said "everything okay! He said "i have to talk about your charges?? charges??? So he goes in, (enterprise,)I park my car, thinking is the receipt he supposed to hand me, oh he forgot! Okay, I go inside!! The "branch manager" (with the sunglasses ) gets up, talking about charges, with his employee the one that was taking care of me & not anymore?? Awful customer service! Reserved a Truck from this location via web this past Friday. Arrived and not only did they not have my vehicle (last minute reservation so I somewhat understand) they didn't have ANY! Was sent to Ridgewood and told to go back to Hawthorne on Monday for the truck if I wanted. Ridgewood was able to put me in a minivan. I called Hawthorne on Monday and was told they didn't have any trucks and that I should call around and look. Ummm. Isn't that your job?! I spoke to Customer Service via chat this morning and was told the regional manager would reach out. Shocker... no call all day. Reached back out via chat and was told regional managers reach out on a first come first serve basis (guess I'm not the only one having issues if regional manager is so busy). This customer service agent was able to book my exchange for tomorrow. I guess we'll see... Regardless, why am I jumping through all these hoops to get what I paid for?! read more

I'm just wondering who actually rents cars. I have to look at my experiences and consider all the times I've rented cars in my life. Looking back, I can clearly remember one time when I rented a car because mine had been in an accident, and several hundred times where I rented a car because I was traveling. My guess is that a whopping majority of people who need a rental car are people who are on vacation, business trips, or some other kind of trip that left them without a vehicle as a result of traveling by air. Insert Hawthorne, New Jersey. The rinky dink little town I grew up in that by all indication hates money. I remember dealing with this enterprise once several years ago. Long enough ago to not remember why I didn't like it, I just knew it would be a problem. I came into town last night from Las Vegas to visit my sick grandmother. I woke up this morning and I decided I would be better off to get my own rental as opposed to ubering around all weekend. Ignoring my inner cautions, I decided to just grab a Lyft over to the nearest rental car place; enterprise in Hawthorne. How bad could it be, right? I placed my order online and went to pick up my rental only to find out that I must be some leper apparently. I was told that my out of state of ID would be unacceptable to use. I of course demanded why, slightly in shock at what I had been told. The gentleman went on to explain that if I had a major credit card he would be able to grant me an exception. I travel with my bank issued MasterCard that doubles as a credit card as well as a debit, and also my Visa debit card. I've traveled throughout the world with these two forms or credit for over a decade, never having a problem. On rare occasion I'm told by rental car companies (enterprise included) that I would need to leave a deposit if I chose to use my debit card. Usually the deposit is $500, but I've been charged $1000 as well. No problem. I understand that this is national company procedure, and I've adhered to it without question since I began traveling for professional sports in 2007. Enterprise in Hawthorne however, plays by their own set of rules. A Nevada ID was instantly a red flag, and there was nothing I could do with my two forms of payment that would remove the scarlet letter that was placed on me for not living in New Jersey. Well forgive me, Mr. used car lender; but I'm living out of state now. If you're willing to limit your entire business to local people, with local ID's, how can one expect to run a business? This enterprise is just another example of Hawthorne and the small box it exists in, outlawing walmarts with picket signs and practically lynch mobs, and shunning tourists from renting cars. Enterprise is great, but the Hawthorne branch operates like an accident waiting to happen. It's staggering how drastically different the service and product can be from one location to the next. I rented a Dodge Challenger from this facility due to an accident (18 day rental) and before i even stepped into the rental, i had fantastic customer service from ALL employee's at this location. They helped me every single step of the process. Especially with it being right around my birthday and the holidays, dealing with this situation was not fun! Even when the rental had a minor issue, it was resolved in a timely fashion with no cost from my pocket! Car was cleaned and looked over with me before and after dropping off. Not only do they throw any car they have available on the lot, at you, if it's nothing like what you're familiar driving, they won't show you the new controls in the car which in my opinion is crucial if you are to actually drive it. It is also a safety issue to know how the car operates especially if you are unfamiliar with how advanced a 2016 model can be. If they can't be considerate enough to show you how to (e.g.) adjust your seat (because you, the driver, assumes it's where it would typically be) to reach the brake pedal...or make you feel your questions are idiotic by pointing out painfully obvious things, such as a window, then they shouldn't be in business of customer service to say the least. This review is for the Wayne, NJ location. Back in June I reserved and had a confirmation for an Aug 6th pick up date. The morning of Aug 6th I got a phone call stating that my reservation could not be fulfilled. WHAT? We were leaving for vacation the following day and now we had no car. There were no apologizes or even any sympathy as I explained that we could not go away without a car. I was told "Well you know that it is summer vacation time and a car shortage because of COVID." When I asked to speak to a manager, the man on the phone got angry and told me. "He will only tell you what I just did. There is nothing that he can do." I still demanded to speak to the manager, but was told that he had just stepped out to lunch. (This was before 11 am) Jim, the manager would be told of our conversation and he would call me back. Well, it's been over a week and no one has called me yet!!!! Customer service was awful and completely unacceptable. Beware of this location!!! I called Avis and had a car within 2 hours. read more

Be VERY careful with what documents you sign here. This place pushes unnecessary insurance coverage and they can be slippery with how they explain what coverage you need. Staff is friendly, but they charged me $250 without telling me. They werent supposed to charge me anything, as it was supposed to go through the insurance company. They also didnt tell me they were going to charge me anything, or I would have told them I couldnt afford a $250 charge. I live in California and travel at least twice a year to see my family in New Jersey. I have used Enterprise in Hawthorne, NJ several times and have never been disappointed. I rented in July for 20 days, I first received a car without bluetooth and after two days decided I wanted a car with bluetooth so I took it back and asked if I could have another car. They gave me one with no problem. Amanda (hopefully the name is correct) was very helpful...they all had great attitudes. I will definitely use them again on my next trip. I think corporate should be told that all their cars should have bluetooth...would certainly be to their advantage so no one will get into an accident while texting or driving. read more
