This is not an inexpensive experience, about €45 per person, but in our opinion, worth the cost. While Roberto speaks no English, his daughter Irene and son Luca have excellent command of English. This seems to be family-run business that specializes in wine and olive oil sales in addition to the restaurants ( there are two locations, No. 1 and No. 2, located about 100 meters apart--No. 1 is a smaller facility). We have purchased both wine and olive oil for shipment to the US, and our orders have arrived when promised and packaged extremely well for long distance shipment. Our experiences at Enoteca Prosperzio have been uniformly delightful and we recommend it highly. There is some confusion about the names and locations of the two restaurants. Enoteca Prosperzio 2 is located on the main street up through Spello, Via Cavour, right up the hill from Santa Maria Maggiore church. Enoteca Prosperzio 1 (a much smaller facility--with seating for only about 24 people and possibly open only for lunch) is located about 100 meters away on Via Torri di Prosperzio.

For example, seemed like most standard rates were like 120 Euro for a case of wine but we bought our case of wine for 60 Euro which is like $5/bottle! What's great is you can mix and match and the owner of the wine store has relationships with all the wineries in Montepulciano so he can get whatever you want! We walked away with some Vino Nobile, Brunellos, Rosso di Montelcino and even a wine from Bolgheri. When we run low on our stock, we will be sure to contact Per Bacco again! The wine store is also equipped with a tasting room so you can taste before you buy.

We lucked out to be here during their olive oil season. We then started a private wine tasting with Paolo to taste 5 of his wines and 2 olive oils on toasted breads (bruschetta). It was only €10! He was such a great host! Nothing beats having the owner and winemaker lead these wine tastings. It was informal and fun. He even made lunch reservations for us at a nearby restaurant. And lunch at the restaurant he booked us in was fantastic too! We all loved his wines and ended up ordering 6 cases to be shipped home.

Paolo Montioni is an excellent host! Their Umbrian wines and olive oils are excellent. I have also ordered wine by email from Montioni for delivery at home. The process was easy, invoiced and paid through PayPal, and shipped to my front door. As Paolo last wrote to me: "We are safe and we are working very hard ......the Nature is outstanding in this moment." We look forward to our next visit to Montefalco and Montioni!
