You must pre-book your tickets because availability is limited in order to help prevent the attraction from getting overcrowded. A quirky, creepy, corner, hidden away in deepest darkest Yorkshire? I'm sure you're wondering what…read morethis is all about? The Forbidden Corner takes twisted imagination, and turns it into genuine childlike wonder. It's a take on traditional country gardens, walled around the outside, with some interesting things on the inside. Within the twists and turns, there's lots to see, including bears playing cards, frogs on a fountain, a talking crow, and so much more. I'm not going to go into more detail there at risk of spoiling the surprise. So, why should you go? You should go if you want to rekindle your childhood sense of whimsy, of discovering hidden things, of exploring, of secret passageways and concealed paths. You're bound to find something here that makes you smile! There's both a café and a restaurant on site. The café serves the usual sandwiches, pies and pasties, wholes the restaurant has a more extensive menu. You can also take picnic, but can't eat it inside - there is a picnic area outside, and your ticket let's you go in and out as many times as you want. To go, you have to book in advance and pick a time slot. There isn't a limit on how long you can stay in, just when you can enter. I'd suggest booking as soon as you can, and picking out an early time. We spent about five hours, and that felt like a good length of time to be there. I'll be going back in the future - it was great fun, and well worth the trip.

The old adage says that if you've got nothing good to say, then say nothing. Therefore my review of…read morethe so-called famous old blacksmith's shop at Gretna Green is that it is obviously a great place for a sandwich and maybe a cup of coffee. That's pretty much all anybody there was doing - sitting around eating their bring-your-own sandwiches and drinking a takeaway coffee. And that's because eating a sandwich and having a coffee is pretty much all there is to see or do unless of course you want to buy any manner of English/Scottish memorabilia/food/junk that you could buy anywhere else in England/Scotland or online. For an incredulous experience, visit Gretna Green's infamous blacksmith's shop. You'll leave wondering why! Oh, apparently you can also marry or renew your wedding vows there but I think guests have to bring their own sandwiches.

What a beautiful place to visit. If you're a fan of Beatrix's books or her conservational work,…read moreHill top should be on your Lake District bucket list. Super easy to purchase tickets online online which I highly advise. You can also buy in person but I didn't want to run the chance of it being sold out. I also recommend getting the first booking at 10. We showed up at 9:30 knowing there was limited parking. You can always walk around to kill time. The scenery is just breathtaking. The tickets get you a tour inside Beatrix's Hill top house. Original furnishings and de orations transport you back. The place feels so cozy. My favorite was the parkour. National trust guides answer all your questions. Impressive to see it's pretty much still a working farm. So thankful for her vision of conserving the land.

One of my favorite spots in the Lake District. Not only did Beatrix Potter write the Peter Rabbit…read morebooks, but she also was an environmentalist and conservationist who has protected a good chunk of the Lake District from being developed. Therefore, visiting her house was surreal and gorgeous, as her village and home looked similar to how it must've looked hundreds or years ago. For 12€, you can go in Beatrix's garden and home, which has all of her furniture and special belongings on display. The Peter Rabbit books started when she began writing little stories to her godson and those original letters were just sitting on a desk in the cottage. I couldn't believe we could see those and they weren't even under glass. There is also a beautiful dollhouse in one of the rooms that she made and then wrote about it (the book about it is in the room too). Her garden is absolutely gorgeous and we loved wandering around the tiny village. There were rolling green hills and blue skies for miles. So special!

This was an interesting experience. As we were driving through Jedbergh, from the border, we saw…read moresigns advertising Fernieherst Castle, and with our interest piqued, we drove down the driveway to a beautiful housecastle. That's the best thing about having a car: you can stop at random points along your destination. When we stopped down the drive, we found out that it's an ancestral home of the Kerrs. There was a curator inside who explained all of this to us, very eager to do so. July is the only time that it's open to the public, with guided tours inside of the home at 5 pounds. There were historical documents, a brief explanation of the family, and a guest book, where various related Kerrs signed their names. It went back 20-30 years, and some children could find their parents' signatures inside. Kerr, Carr, Kar, Karre, etc. come here to learn more history about their family, and I think to one who is related, this would be a particularly awesome experience. She explained that people made trips from all over the world to see how their relatives lived. Though we opted out of the tour, we were allowed to walk the grounds a bit. They were beautiful, and the home was certainly lovely from the outside. Definitely come here if you're a Kerr relation, or if you're curious what a modern-day castle looks like in the inside. I'm 'a fan' because of the courteous, informative nature of the curator. But here's a warning: the road to get out is a tiny, one way affair that curves around, and it caused a lot of stress to my companion, so you've been warned!
