This might be the best breakfast spot in Lincoln. The location is a little small but well designed and they fit a lot of tables in the space. There was a wait when we came in at around 9:30 but we got in by 10:00 am. Both the host and waitress we had were very friendly and warm. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the eggs Benedict. Normally hollandaise sauce is too much for me but Engine House does it just right to where it's not too heavy. The hash browns on the side were nice and crispy and I think the English muffin was homemade. The half is plenty for one person and I recommend getting a pancake on the side or to split. I generally don't expect too much from pancakes but these were so fluffy and light. My mom used to make pancakes from scratch at home and there's not too many that can top hers but these are up there on the list. I came here on a Friday and had the surf and turf. For the price it was decent, but the actual food was only mediocre. I enjoyed the side salad though it was nothing phenomenal. Hash browns as my other side were done okay, but also not phenomenally. Unfortunately the entree itself felt as if it'd been sitting for too long and was quite overcooked. The shrimp however were done quite nicely. Still for the price it's quite nice and I'm sure their breakfast is much better however as I went for dinner I can only base it on that experience. Not sure what all the fuss is about. The food was above average. The service was average. Crowded and not much room in the restaurant. My biggest complaint is that I went to warm up the car while my Dad paid the bill. As I was walking out a staff member ran after me stating that I refused to pay the bill. I've been to the Engine House Cafe many times. Usually, the food is good. Yesterday, my husband and I went and each had one of the specials. His "grilled" salmon was definitely not so much grilled as it was griddled. And it was covered in hollandaise sauce which was not advertised, or preferred. I assume it was to cover the lack of grill marks. I ordered the prime rib eggs Benedict and was sorry. It was not good, I should have went with the traditional. I have been coming to Nebraska for business for the better part of 12-13 years, and as the food options have increased, this is one place I always wanted to come to but for some reason always got derailed as Lincolnites have steered me away consistently from Havelock. I always wondered why since the old Misty's and Pepe's (now moved, sadly) were SO good for very different reasons. But finally got here, and was worth the wait. Server steered me to the eggs benedict as the house specialty, and was right on. All ingredients very fresh and scratch made. Hollandaise sauce was very mellow, which was different, but really hit the spot. Person I was with had a potato plate, which also looked good. Recommend this as a place particularly if you are wanting breakfast any time. Best part, though, was engaging in a conversation with Roger at the cash register, which legitimized that this family-oriented, true legit diner (not some corporate shell of a pretend diner) should be on your 'go to' list in Nebraska. I am disturbed that Pepe's had to move downtown to be successful. This is a neighborhood that deserves to have great restaurants, and even better yet, the yuppies are sort of afraid to come down here, so you miss all the folks looking for some silly Starbucks/Hooters experience. My scrambled eggs were overcooked, hashbrowns undercooked, ham burnt. Low quality ingredients, e.g. generic brand single-serve non-diary creamer instead of real cream, vegetable-oil whipped spread instead of butter or even name-brand margarine. Great place for breakfast! There isn't anything fancy to the food but they do it all well! Came in for brunch on Saturday and it was busy at 1030, always a good sign. The bacon is cooked to that perfect crunch but then the fat melts in your mouth. Biscuits and gravy done right, perfectly prepared hashbrowns with crispy outsides and soft insides. The oatmeal raisin pancake was also great. Only complaint is the limited seating area and no good place to wait for a table except for the entrance hallway Also the second entrance in the back of the building creates issues with order of arrival. We had read good things about this restaurant for breakfast but it must have been a bad day for our waitress. She was unpleasant and never came back with coffee or to ask how our meal was. The place was not very busy but the pancakes were delivered cold and she never came back to our table so we could tell her. Best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. I got it with sausage- it was amazing, and the English muffin was fluffy, soft, and pretty dang big. My boyfriend had a chicken fajita burrito, which he said was "pretty good", but he loved what I had ordered and kept stealing bites. We also split a cinnamon roll, and it exceeded all of our expectations- warm, soft, and gooey. I will definitely be returning in the future! read more

Went for brunch on Saturday. Long line out the door when we arrived. Initially were going to go else where after told 20-30 min wait. Decided to stay. Great idea. Great food and excellent staff.
