So when a friend asked if I wanted to see a Broadway musical, I said yes -- and I'm so glad I did. The performance completely blew me away. While the venue may not be as grand or ornate as the Wang Theatre, I really appreciated the layout and the friendliness of the staff. I parked at the Wells Fargo building right behind the theater. I prepaid $10 through Ticketmaster, and the process was very easy and convenient. The parking structure was also easy to navigate. Be mindful of any Padres games happening at the same time, as traffic can get extremely heavy. Luckily, I left home early and avoided the worst of it, but my friend wasn't as fortunate -- she ended up stuck in traffic for quite a while. I would definitely come back to see more shows.

The actors were great. The lines to get in are long but they have a process that works and it gets you through the line quickly. So far I've seen two great performances, Sara Petite, and Peter Sprague One thing I appreciated was the fact that the shows are put on by the Friends of the Library. The MC for the event made sure to let people know that the music was made possible because of the members of the Friends of the Library. My dad instilled in me a since of fairness. He never cheated anyone and he never let anyone cheat him. For that reason I felt I owed it to them to join. As I had gotten so much joy from the music program and know there's more to come. As as added bonus you can arrive early and have a picnic at the Encinitas Community Park which is a Short drive from the Library.

From Leucadia down to Cardiff-by-the-Sea, through Old Encinitas and New Encinitas all the way to bucolic Olivenhain you won't find a cooler and, dare I say, hipper town in California. To get an idea of folks it attracts, just look at a list of some of our current Encinitas residents: skateboarders such as Bucky Lasek, Danny Way, Mike McGill - surfers like Rob Machado and others - the one and only 2-time gold medalist Shaun White - actor Richard Dreyfuss - classic rocker Joe Walsh - the list goes on and on... Former residents, you ask? Well, how about Charlie Chaplin, Eddie Vedder, Ravi Shankar, Dr. Jerry Buss, Tony Hawk, and "The Beaver" - that's right, Jerry Mathers from Leave It to Beaver used to call Encinitas his home. Since we had already booked the Spanish Village Art Center for the reception, we wanted something nearby. For a couple hundred bucks, we rented the Balboa Park Administration Building Courtyard for the entire day. It's a beautiful and secluded venue, less than a half a mile down the hill from Balboa Park. You'll have to provide the chairs and PA system, but this is a great spot if you're looking for something less public and more intimate, but adjacent to the park. One thing to be aware of - you are in the flight path, so be prepared to pause the ceremony about once every ten minutes. We didn't take ourselves too seriously - our officiant and guests had a laugh about the whole thing.

There are so many beautiful Victorian homes here, as well as old, small homes; each one is different and unique. It is pretty peaceful, with not as much crime as other parts of the city.
