This is the second purchase and install with Empire. The first was four or five years ago and the pricing and install was so good on basement tile, i turned to them when i wanted to get rid of our carpet and put in hardwood living room and hallway flooring. Absolutely terrible customer service. Nothing during the process was explained to us. Had an employee come out for measurements and an estimate and we were told we could have it installed the next day. When they called at 7am they told us that someone would be at our house in 1-2 hours. The installer did not arrive until after 5pm. They did not install the carpet, only took more measurements, cut the carpet and we would later schedule our actual installation. Once our carpet was ready to be installed they called us and I returned their phone call 15 minutes later but the scheduler had already gone home. 3 days later I get a call asking when we would like to schedule our installation. After finally getting it scheduled, we again received a 7am phone call telling us we were the second stop of the day. At 4:45 pm we received a call from the installer stating he was on his way. After 5pm he arrived and had the wrong carpet. After calling the corporate office, everyone was home for the day and no resolution was offered. I have taken two days off work, paid $250, have no carpet and no time frame for a carpet. read more

HORRIBLE: LIARS WITH NEGATIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Sprint, don't run away. Why does Yelp not allow 0 stars??? I am purchasing a home that is occupied and wanted to get an estimate to replace the carpet with hardwood. I arranged a delivery window with Empire of 11a.m. -1 p.m., explaining that both the current owner and I to take off work to meet the salesman, and asked if they would call when they were a half hour away so we both didn't need to take two hours of leave. I was also clear that the work needed to be done in two weeks, so time was of the essence regarding getting an estimate. I asked my realtor to check in periodically with them about the delivery window, and we had heard nothing by 12:30. My realtor called and asked whether the salesman would be there within the window, and the call center assured us that he would, so I left work to meet him. At 1:00, we called again, and the call center was cagey about how far out the salesperson was. At 1:15, they admitted that he had another sales call he needed to finish before he got to us. At 1:30, when I finally reached a manager, he verified that the salesman was 17 minutes out. I hit the roof, exclaiming that we were grossly inconvenienced because they lied to us, and it would have been more professional to just say in advance, "hey, sorry, we're going to blow our window--is it possible for us to meet you 45 minutes late?" We would have been able to work with that. However, by the time we got to the bottom of the story, it was too late and I had to head back to work. I was furious, and I talked to another manager who apologized sincerely, agreed that it was no way to treat a customer (especially when they are trying to solicit business), and asked me to give them another chance. After making arrangements with the current owner, I called back about an hour later to speak to that manager so he could personally set up an appointment. I tried his extension three times, but could never get through to him. I left messages and he never called back. Finally, I set up an appointment with a call center _appointment_ for 9:00 a.m. the next day, not a delivery window. They promised that they would have a rep there by 9:00. The next day, the current owner and I are there promptly at 9:00. At 9:15, I called another manager wondering where the rep was, and he said THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THE APPOINTMENT, COULD ONLY SCHEDULE DELIVERY WINDOWS, AND THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE WINDOW WAS 3 P.M. TO 5 P.M. I was outraged. They are class-A liars with zero professionalism or regard for their customers' time. I can only imagine what a fiasco it would have been if we had actually contracted with these clowns. read more

We have used Empire in the past and were pleased w/ the salesman and carpet. This time, we only wanted an estimate before we made some home improvement changes. The salesman this time was helpful and showed plenty of samples. When he gave the estimate it was reasonable, but still more than we wanted to spend. After several discounts, he came down $500 ... so definittely hold out for LESS if you use Empire. But, as soon as we said "we need to take a couple days to think about this" his answer was "WHY?" When we explained we were ONLY getting estimates, he said well you want carpet so why not set it up and get it today. Our answer of "we are not making a decision tonight" really set him off. He actually hummpphed at us. Pretty much said it was a waste of his time to drive 1 hr to get here and would not be worth his time to come back since he was an independent contractor. Needless to say, we did not get carpet that day, and may not turn to Empire in the future. read more

Used Empire to carpet about 800 sq. ft. in my basement. They appear to sub-contract and someone from another company came to do the estimate. They were reasonably priced but offered several 'discounts' which came off to me as just a gimmick when I paid about par value for a decent carpet. The installers came that Saturday. They finished the job in 3.5 hours. Two little problems; the estimator did not record that we were having the stairs carpeted too but thankfully the installer had enough extra and agreed to carpet it after I had to push a little. Second, the carpet went over potential asbestos tile. The estimator said they would use epoxy to bind the tack strips to the tile, as not to disturb it. The installers did not want to do that and, with my agreement, duct-taped the area for strips then nailed them in. I believe it was safe but not what was originally agreed upon. The installers probably wanted to save time. Overall, the carpet was installed well and my wife and I are happy with it. Empire is flexible and can do your install the next day in most cases. read more

Got a quote for replacement carpeting and after submitting 10% deposit, I was promised a copy of the contract. Never received one. Called a week prior to the installation requesting a later install date and a copy of the contract- was told I could not have a copy of the contract and the CS rep entered the wrong date for my rescheduled install. Called once more to cancel and request a refund of my deposit and was told I had to cancel within 3 days of contract signing- and now I cannot get a refund of my deposit. Was further told the deposit would be held indefinitely for my use or if I wanted to donate it to someone else. Once they have your money, seems as if you are obligated to buy from them. I'd rather my deposit back. Avoid these people. read more

Saleswoman was great but terrible scheduling which ended up costing me a personal day off of work. Waited over 12 hours just to have to re-schedule. When I called to re-schedule they just gave me a trouble ticket and said someone will call you back within 24 hours not solving any problem or even apologizing for their awful lack of service and professionalism. Don't use Empire and don't by into the hype. Use a smaller family owned business who actually cares about you. read more

The guy they sent to take measurements was super nice and quick. I picked my product and the installation date while he was in my condo. When the installation date came, they said they didn't have the product on hand and weren't sure when they would get it. That was three weeks ago. I haven't heard from them since. My advice: go to floors and decor in Alexandria. They have lots to choose from and seem to know what they're doing. read more

Let me start by saying I have used Empire Today in the past and had no problem with them. Therefore, when I bought a new house and needed new carpet for the entire house, I automatically called them. My sales rep was fine and got the price down to around what I wanted. We set up the install for a Saturday because I work and they said it would take all day. The day comes and the AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL warehouse gave the installers the wrong carpet for my master. The other 4 carpets were correct though, and everyone makes mistakes so I said they could come back later and install that one and to just install everything else. They go to cut one of the carpets and they notice that the warehouse only gave them 22 feet of one of the carpets instead of the 26 ft that it was labeled. Therefore, they could do the rooms, but not the closets - they'd have to come back and do those. Finally, the last carpet that they unrolled had been accidentally cut at the warehouse in such a fashion that they didn't have enough carpet to complete all 3 areas I wanted that carpet. So they said I would get a call back within 24 hours. I did not. I called on monday and they told me it was 24 business hours and to just wait. They did not call. I call on Tuesday and they say they left a message and that I will definitely get a call back. They did not. I was given the warehouse installation number and I tried to call but nobody answered so I left I voicemail. I tried to call a different part of their number and the voicemail box was full. Finally on Wednesday, I talked to a floor manager of customer service (Celina). She was great and basically sent out this e-mail saying there would be consequences if I didn't get a call back. Finally, my sales rep calls me and asks when I want my carpet installed/fixed and I say Saturday because I work. So he tells me they can do saturday. The next day I get a call from someone asking if I want to schedule my install. I told them my sales rep told me it was saturday and he goes "Oh, I think we can do that, let me check". So clearly, there is miscommunication. Finally Saturday comes and they call me to tell me they are on their way but - SHOCKING - they weren't given the carpet for my master still. So they fixed the other 2 problems but I called on Monday to schedule a time. I talk to another floor manager (I think Carissa?) and she also seemed really great and said the installers could come Wednesday. I asked for a discount because this is ridiculous and she said once it's installed, I can get one. At this point, I really want my carpet in so I tell them I will take off work. So now it is Wednesday and I don't get a call in the morning saying they are coming. I call the customer service and - AGAIN SHOCKING - I am not on their list of installs today. So now I'm waiting to see if they actually call me today like the new floor manager I talked to (Valerie) said they would. She said some guy named Jason with the install department was supposed to take care of everything and she has a call in to him but he wasn't picking up. So I told them I need to be compensated for my time because I literally took off work today. She said she made a note of that. I'm not sure how this will end but if you want to go with a business who actually communicates with their clients as well as actually INSTALLS the CORRECT carpet....look somewhere else. read more

If you are thinking about hiring Empire Today, Please, you must read on. It will SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!! If there is a Zero star, I would give Zero star. The way they treat their customers and do business is outrageous and unethical. it's my first-time doing flooring, so I didn't know anything about flooring. I trusted Empire Today as a national company to have ethical standards and treat their customers right, but they took advantage of my inexperience with construction, bullying me and screwing me over. Their sales rep came in and said he's been doing this for over 20 years, very experienced and that it will be an easy and quick project since I already have laminate in. He said their installation dates are booking up and rushed me to pay $1,500 deposit and booked the first available installation dates, which was in 8 days. He also said the full amount will be paid before the installation. I should've taken this as a red flag when he said this. All was good until the installation day, the technician came in, ripped my carpet and measured the floor. they then told me, they can't not do the job because the floor needs to be leveled first and they don't do that much leveling. they said I have to find another contractor to do the leveling.... WHAT??? The sale rep NEVER mentioned any of this to me when he asked me to pay deposit??? This is not even the worse part. The worst part is the canceling and getting the deposit refund. Two times they told me they canceled it and that refund was on the way, each time I didn't see refund hit my card. Yesterday I called to check refund status for the third time, they told me the order has been closed by the accounting department, and I am not getting the refund!!!! Their excuse was that I didn't cancel within 3 days. I was so shocked to hear because they never mentioned it before, and never reached out to follow up. There was no way I could cancel within 3 days, because the technician didn't come until 8 days after the deposit, which was the first available installation date I could get. If I knew they couldn't do the job the next day, I would cancel it within 3 days!!! I asked to speak to supervisor. Victor (Work ID 20518) told me that he is the supervisor and there is nobody else he can transfer me to. He told me their sale reps don't decide whether they can do the job or not, it's the technician that decides. My question is why don't they have the technician do the assessment in the first place?? or at least have the sales rep communicate with the technician? Victor gave me excuse that it's under the terms and condition of the contract that leveling is my responsibility and that it's common their sales rep don't disclose every line item. WHAT!!!!??? So first the sale rep failed to accurately assess the project and failed to disclose about the potential leveling issue. Once he got the sale, he disappeared, didn't communicate with the technician and cancellation team when the problem occurred. Then the cancellation team weren't being consistence with their story and didn't communicate with the accounting team about what happened and didn't follow up to communicate when they dicided they are not give me refund. There is obviously lack of communication throughout the company. I've never encountered anything this unprofessional. More outrageous is that they are screwing people over during this pandemic!!!! I am very disappointed, and they lost my trust forever and any future reference businesses. I will file complaints to the licensing agency and WA state contractor's board. I will make sure everyone knows Empire Today's deceiving and unethical business model, so no one else will get bullied by Empire Today!! read more

Nothing positive to say about Empire. The salesman comes to your home or work to show you samples which is convenient. However, he only shows you what he wants to show you so you can't be sure you're getting the best deal. The advertised specials on TV are only for the higher priced carpets. They offer a price match guarantee but they have their own brands so it is virtually impossible to compare with anything in retail stores. I had two installers for two floors of carpet. I questioned whether they would be able to get the job done in one day. They completed it. But they forgot to rehang a door and put big chunks and scrapes in my baseboards throughout the house. My house was going up for sale so there was no furniture to move in most of the rooms. I'm not sure how long it would have taken if there was an entire houseful. There was some confusion in the pad for the basement carpet and they installed something different than what I was promised. I had to make several calls to a manager before I finally got a return call. I only received a $110.00 credit for a nearly $4000 job and a half-hearted, meaningless apology from the manager. I purchased a carpet with Luna Flooring, which is a subsidiary of Empire Today, 3 years ago based on their sales representative's explicit guarantee that the carpet was under warranty for 20 years as long as you showed proof of regular cleanings every 18 months. I had the carpet steam cleaned every 18 months as required and kept proof with receipts. The last time I had my carpet cleaned, I noticed regular wear and stains were not coming up so I contacted the company to exercise my warranty. After 3 months of failing to return my calls and giving me the run around, they finally declined my claim stating that I didn't get my carpet cleaned by specifically approved cleaners, a condition that they had never previously notified me of and was not included in my warranty! They are refusing to live up to the terms of their warranty and now I have to sue them to get them to replace their faulty carpet. Do not do business with this company!!! They are FRAUDS! read more

Hello, I need to speak to a representative who has the authority above a customer service rep. We originally scheduled an install to sell our home but decided to put the sale off until May when I called to reschedule the apt the CSR told me he could only book out 6 months but then at that point we could then reschedule for my anticipated date of April, as well as advising me to keep my deposit on hand. Never once did he say he will not be able to push my install until April. He then booked an install date as far out as his schedule would allow and actually told me he would take care of cancelling and rescheduling it once the apt in Jan comes up. I called today to reschedule because the emails clearly state that it was not taken care of as I was told it would be, only to be told that I cannot push my date to April as well as I will lose my deposit if I don't book next month. The representative also could see in the notes that I wanted my install in April, so why would those notes be there if I wasn't told I could do that? When I asked to speak to a manager I was told no that I would get the same answer. I would appreciate to speak to someone who has the authority to help me out. Regardless of policy I was mislead by the original representative and as I am still trying to conduct business with you I am sure someone can mush my appt. out to the desired date. I was really optimistic about Empire. Good sales experience, good overall reputation, customer service easy to work with. This morning, they botched the installation for the third time. The first time was because the super amiable sales guy didn't understand carpet installation and failed to add a note about the crew needed an epoxy to fasten pad and carpet to a cement floor. The second time was because the crew that came out for the first time didn't put that note in the notes when they left because they couldn't do the job and I had to reschedule, so they left and I had to reschedule. This third time? I don't know, because after I worked out a time window for the installation, the person on the phone was either an idiot or a liar, because the crew magically showed up at my house while I was at work. Reschedule again! Nope. I called and said that Empire would be telling the crew to be there at the time we agreed to, not when it was convenient for them, and apparently Empire prefers to put the onus for their repeated mistakes on their customers. So, basically, I'm moving on to another contractor, and Empire can suck an egg. What a joke of a company. read more

I have had a TERRIBLE experience with this company. We were blown off for our first appointment by the sales rep. In an effort to win our business back we were given a $250 credit and a new sales rep (Antonio Rios) who preached the Empire Low Price Match Guarantee. He guaranteed a better price than what we were going to get from Home Depot and we agreed to work with Empire. Only After making our deposit he informed us that we couldn't use our credit - the credit was given to us with no stipulations. We couldn't get a real response from Tony on this matter. Today, was our install day and the installers showed up with no underlayment. We then find out that Tony never included that in our estimate and upon a text from him, he cannot include it in our price match and our price will now be much more than originally quoted. Tony has since blocked both of our numbers to avoid remedying this situation and his manager refuses to call us back as well. I have never known a company to treat its customers so poorly. All we want at this point is our deposit back. read more

Empire Today After reading a lot of negative reviews regarding Empire Today, I guess I can say that my wife and I were lucky with our installation of hardwood floors. The salesperson was polite and informative and didn't pressure us into a sale. I did my research beforehand, measured my rooms and came up with a price for the job that I thought was fair, and this was the price that was finally agreed to. We choose Armstrong wood flooring and I made sure to go out and inspect all the unopened boxes on the installer's van to make sure they were what we ordered. They were. The contractor arrived on time (a crew of 5) and worked all day installing hardwood on our 2nd floor and on the stairs leading to the 2nd floor. Five men were used and completed the job in 10 hours. We kept an eye on the crew to make sure that they laid down the correct floor liner, etc. As far as the finished product is concerned, the floors themselves look great. They went inside all the closets and most of the molding looks good too. Towards the end they began to rush and there were some noticeable holes and splinters in a couple pieces of the molding, but nothing major that I couldn't fix with a little bit of putty. There were some glue stains on the floor, but not many - maybe half a dozen small stains. Again, in the scheme of things, no big deal. My big problem was that they were a little rough with moving our furniture and put numerous dings and dents in the dressers and bureaus, mostly on the corners and feet. If our furniture has been new (which it was not) I REALLY would have been upset about this, but again, most of the damage here was easily fixed with a combination of furniture pens and wood putty. I suspect that some of this damage could have been avoided if they had come back a second day rather than trying to finish the job in one day. OTOH...there was a BIG part of me that was glad they were able to finish the job the same day. The clean-up job inside and out was OK but not great. Again, they were in a hurry to leave. So, it looks like we were fortunate because the worker who did the steps (a custom job) obviously knew what he was doing, as did the regular floor installers. The floors actually look really good. I think if you could be guaranteed to get this particular crew you would be ok, as long as you kept an eye on them moving furniture. Of course, we all know that it's always a crap shoot with what crew you get. So, although I have read LOTS of negative reviews about Empire Today, for our particular experience to be completely honest, I would say the following: SALESMAN: good PRICE: competitive with what my own research showed CREW: large crew of 5 who worked hard and did a very good job on the floors and stairs. We recently hired Empire Today to install new hardwood floors in part of our home. The salesman was prompt and polite; the installers were amazing and did exceptional work. That said, the floor we were sold does not even come close to what we were told. We asked the salesman about durability and he showed us that even hard pressing keys (on the sample) wouldn't scratch it. Suitably impressed, we invested 12,000 dollars in a new living room floor. 30 days later, it looks 10 years old. Even a bean bag chair scratches it, not to mention simply living on it. I called Empire to see what my options were - I was told I could buy new floors for a slight discount or pay to have someone come out and do an estimate on repairs - that I would have to pay for. That isn't acceptable - it amounts to being told that we'll be out our 12,000 plus pay the cost of a new floor to replace wood that hasn't lasted 30 days. We've had hardwood before, and never had this problem. Indeed, the hardwood in the house that is actually 10 years old, already looks better than the new hardwood. Simply put, either Empire misled us at the sales appointment or they sold us an inferior product... or both. I'm asking for a reasonable credit towards a new floor - I realize I'm not going to get all of my money back, but I can't fathom how losing 12,000 dollars for a floor we've barely enjoyed is acceptable to a company that prides itself on customer service. read more

I had empire put in vinyl laminate flooring about 2 years ago the floor is now cracking and in one place the flooring is coming up. They were nice enough to tell me I only have a 1 year warranty they only offer a 1 year warranty because they know they sell a bunch of crap that wont last so here I am paid these clowns $3000 2 years ago now I am going to have to pay again to repair the floor. Needed a job done fast for a home in Gig Harbor, WA I plan to list next week and was impressed they could get me onto the schedule the same week. First, they missed my appointment and I had to stay an extra day (I live 5 hours away). Second, the carpet installers weren't able to put the baseboards back on because they didn't have any tools. I called they branch manager and they would do it Monday but charge me $250. I asked if this could be compensation for missing first appointment. They said typically they only give a $50 credit for a missed appointment. I said no thank you and I will no longer be a customer. I did have an excellent experience with my sales rep Minh T. Van who graciously offered to put the baseboards back on, even though this debacle was not his fault. I had a great experience with my last house that I used them for and am very disappointed I cannot rely on the company for repeat business. I had the worst experience ever with Empire. I called them two weeks ahead of time to set up an appointment. I let them know that I would be visiting my mom for one week in which I planned on getting several quotes but needed it done a few days later while still there. The sales agent who came was nice but very aggressive. I did decide to go with them so I set up the appointment for 3 days later, signed the paper work, and wrote a deposit check. We had three days to get the house ready for new carpet. We got up early in the morning and stayed up late at night to get the house packed up and the walls painted before they came. The night before I called the agent to confirm and he assured me they would call in the AM to tell me a time. When they didn't call the next morning, I called the 800 number and the guy told me that he had no record of me on the schedule. I canceled them and spent the whole day finding a new comnpany. And what is worse, most of their products can not be installed "next day" because they don't carry them in stock. What a load of BS. Empire Flooring Special was a rip off. Claimed 2 rooms + whole house free - the catch was I had to pay for installation and stairs. When I requested the salesman to break it down- he pulled an amount off his head. I told him I want to know how much per sq. yard and how much for the stairs and installation - he said it was a ballpark - but wanted me to schedule installation. I told him again I wanted the numbers broken down - again he would not. Any reputable company would not mind breaking down the dollar amount, so you know exactly what you are paying for. He was very annoyed with me that I would not schedule installation - not to mention of the carpet he showed me - NOTHING matched my drapes. couch,etc. - butt he still insisted I schedule an installation. I would not go with Empire Today again. I didn't have any issues particularly with the person who initially came out to my house to do the measuring (as in he wasn't creepy and weird like other people experienced from previous reviews) but more with the conflicting installation times, and his poor measurement skills. My husband was home on a Monday when the installers said they would call in the morning and give a time frame of when they would be there, and they never did. I ended up calling them to ask them when they would arrive and they said no later than 3 I believe. So they arrive a quarter to 3 and worked for 3 hours...still not done. This was for carpet in a small basement too. What started to upset us was the fact that they had to leave because they did not bring enough carpet to cover the stairs, and was later told it was due to mismeasurement. So we scheduled another appointment for Wednesday afternoon at 4, and they called my husband on Wednesday morning saying they can come that morning, but neither of us would be home because we were at work. So my husband tries to schedule for another time but they said that they wouldn't be available anymore anytime after the morning time. Needless to say, he was upset and didn't want to deal with them anymore. I had initially planned on leaving work early to get here by 4. I called them back to see when they can come out and they say 2-3 now. I rush home from work only to wait from 2-3:30 before anyone arrived. As you can see, this is extremely frustrating because generally people don't get paid to leave work. And what's more frustrating when I called back at 3 to see where they were, is that they were having a scheduled lunch...I feel like that should have been incorporated into the time frame so I didn't have to leave my job any earlier than I did. It definitely sounds appealing on the advertisements, which is what got us in the first place..."70% off blow out sale!" and "next day installment!" but don't be fooled, unless you're unemployed and have all the time in the world to sit around waiting. I would like to say one nice thing though...the initial price they quoted me was a lot more than the average Home Depot so I was going to cancel the contract, but they were able to match their price, which was very surprising. read more

I requested a carpeting estimate through the Empire Today website and, yesterday evening, a representative paid me a visit to discuss carpeting in my basement. He showed up on time, was knowledgeable about the product, and was very professional - until I told him I wanted to discuss things with my wife before making any final decisions. At that point, he proceeded to tell me a sob story about how he'd been going around all day doing estimates and hadn't made any money. When I told him again that I needed to think it over, he said it would really "help him out" for me to put down a deposit because he was "just trying to make some money." I understand he likely works on commission but he needs to understand that the point of getting an estimate is know what options exist before making a final decision. Upon realizing I was not going to commit, he seemed to almost take it personally and said nothing for several minutes as he packed up his things, checked his phone, and got ready to depart. I found his behavior unprofessional and childish and the awkward situation made me very uncomfortable. In addition, when I asked him to email me the estimate, he said he was not allowed. I cannot believe that is true. Frankly, the whole experience has made me very hesitant to do business with Empire. If I could at least get my estimate, I might possibly reconsider but, as of now, I would not recommend them. THEN, to top it all off, when I tried the next day to send an email through Empire's main website, the system would not allow me to do so. Though the appropriate field was clearly populated, it kept giving me an error message telling me to enter my question or concern. read more

This is the worst company I have ever had to work with. I would never use empire carpet again and I will tell everyone I know or anyone I come in contact with about the terrible service I experienced with this company. I had a problem with the installation ,the quality of work and the horrible responsiveness of the post installation customer service at empire. The workers who installed carpet did not have ladder to get to top of my stairs or tools to do tile removal or even a simple vaccum to clean the floors after removal of old carpet and floor before installing new carpet. They would have installed new carpet over dirty floors if I have not noticed this and cleaned the floor myself before they did installation. Then after they finished job I noticed stains on a couple of my stairway treads the very next day and called empire to come back to fix and the customer service person was extremely hard to get a call back as well as they did not respond for 2 weeks. Then they dragged out more time saying they needed to get someone to come out and see area first before they believed me. Remember I called one day after install.tgen I finally got someone to come after almost 2 months and then after they see there is a stain the guy says he is not sure it was from installers and can't cover it. Then customer service calls and offers me 50 bucks for the trouble. What a joke this company sucks sooooo bad I hate this place and I will tell everyone how bad they are !!!!!!. Don't hire this company they are terrible !!!!!? The only reason they get one star is because I have to to continue this review to post otherwise they get zero from me and I hope no one hires this company. read more

Couldn't even bother to show for appt. They missed the appt window, and I heard nothing from the salesperson so I had to call to see if they were coming. They asked for another 45 min and then still didn't show over an hour later, with of course, no word from empire. So, I left and then they called to say I wasn't there at our scheduled time of 11-1. The phone call was received at 2:16. (Ridiculous, right?!) I will never use this company. Horrible customer service! Use some other company that can at least value your time. "Empire Today" should change its name to "Empire whenever we get around to you." On two occasions, I set up a consultation for carpet, and was given a two hour window and multiple reminders (e-mail, voicemail) about my appointment. Well, on both occasions, after the two hours had passed with no one showing up and no one calling me, I had to call Customer Service. I was told that the representative was ill. Unbelievable. Would it have killed Customer Service to call me to say that no one was coming and ask if I wanted to reschedule? What does "customer service" mean to Empire Today? Not much. But being unreliable and having no common courtesy means I won't be calling them again. read more

My family scheduled a free at home estimate for ceramic tile in a very small bathroom (25 square feet). The salesman showed up on time and was friendly and informative while he measured the space and explained the process of laying tile. We had already removed the toilet, existing floor and underlayment. When we sat down to talk about price the friendly tone took a drastic turn. He gave us an original price of $858. We thanked him for his time and told him we would let him know what we decided. Not happy with our response he says he can lower the price to $732 if we agree to have a lawn sign in our yard. Again, we tell him we are just looking to get estimates and would not be making any decisions on the spot. Throughout this time his attitude is becoming increasing aggressive. He proceeds to call his "manager" on the phone to see if he can get the price lowered any more. Finally, he says that if we sign now our price would $532. Once more, we tell him that we are waiting for our mom to come home before making any decisions. I asked if the price would still be good in a few hours when my mom had a chance to look over everything. At this point the salesman becomes extremely agitated and insists that he would not have time to deal with us later in the day and that if we wanted the lowest price we had to sign on the spot. Not falling for his aggressive tactics we informed that we would not be signing. He hastily gathered his belonging and literally stormed out of our house. Also, one of the first questions I had asked when he arrived was how long the estimate was good for, his response was 30 days. However, upon his exit from our house he insisted that paper he has written our estimates on was for his record and that we could not keep the estimate. This left our family with no proof of any of the prices that had been discussed. read more

I just wanted to let you know that you have terrible salesmen. We had a gentleman come to our home for a free estimate which was fine. He also told us that he purchased a car today but when i was outside earlier the car had the sticker price and dealer plates on it. I've never seen a car dealership give someone dealer plates for a vehicle. His attire wasn't of what a sales person would wear and also his hands were dirty like he was a mechanic from a dealership. I wasn't looking to get something right away but wanted to see what pricing was when i was ready to get new flooring. At first the conversation was going well and about an hour later he gave us pricing. At first pricing was about 11K for what he considered 7 rooms. And then said after the prices it would be around 7K. Later he was pushing that if we bought it today we could get 10% off. We still told him that we were really looking for estimates and needed time to get other estimates. After that he started to say he can call his manager and get it down to 3.5k if we order it now with $100 deposit. Still we said it sounded like a good offer but did not want to get the flooring yet. Then he said he can bring it down to $50 deposit if we signed the paper work. We kept telling him we didn't want to at the time and he said okay how about $0 deposit. And again we said no we just wanted an estimate. Then he said you don't have any money at all for a deposit? The next thing he was saying you know i drove an hour out here and he said my time is valuable but apparently your time is more. He was constantly pushing us to try and sign papers, and when we finally got him to leave. I was furious with the high pressure used car sales pitch he was using to try and get us to buy something we did not want. While I was outside attending to other business, he made my fiance very uncomfortable in his attempts to at least make her say yes. I almost called the police because he was becoming passive aggressive and wouldn't take no for an answer. If this is how you do business i would never purchase anything from you nor would i even recommend anyone to you. read more

Wow. I called for an estimate and the rep showed the next day at the appointed time. He brought a couple sample boards, measured and then did his calculations on the back of a notebook paper. No breakdown for what part was material and what was labor. Offered to write up contract the same day and install the next. My impression was that the quote was extremely high, the fact that it was scribbled on notebook paper was a turn off, and the whole thing seemed geared towards getting you into a contract and getting the flooring installed before you can figure out you got scammed. I hate to be a hater, but I will not be using Empire. read more

Empire is a horrible company. We paid for porcelain tile install in kitchen, half bath, hall and laundry area. Have had communication problems from day one. Tile is sloped in laundry area. Tiles are chipping. Installer used muric acid at end of install and that appears to have dulled tiles. They also placed our washer, dryer and gas range on patio for 3 days. Appliances did get wet all three days. Our stove now has eight significan spots on it and not sure if from rain, moter or muric acid. The stove is only 4 years old and Samsung cannot help us as we dont know what did it. Empire has given us run around from day one to present. "Inspector" was to come out. Turns out that is the "Installation Supervisor". No one has come out to perform inspection. Out of total frustation with Empire we filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs. Received call back from gentleman in home office who is basically standing by job performed and insisted the "Install Manager" in Tampa was only person who could do "Inspection". He made it clear he was not happy we filed a complaint. He also insisted would receive call back that day for that appointment. That has not happened. Our furniture still sits in living room. All reviews I am reading on line indicate not to use muric acid on floors. Certainly concerned regarding effect on our home and the health of our dog and ourselves regarding this. Empire has caused us an enormous amount of stress and financial distress, I do not wish this type of treatment on anyone. Thank you. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IT'S HORRIBLE. I paid over 5 thousand dollars to have only the bedrooms done. The carpet didn't not match the stairway which I was told that it would. They replace the original carpet with a low end cheap carpet ( yes it looked the same but no where near the same quality). I ask them to send out a rep, they sent the exact same installer that installed the carpet, therefore they further wasted my time. I'm seriously considering suing this company. I've used this company in the past which was a much better company, I'm not sure what happen but this company totally sucks now. Empire today is nothing more than a middle man. The work was contracted out to some poor local guy, the van didn't have any marking on it, I wasn't sure who the people were. I could have went to a local person hanging around Lowe's etc. and contracted out someone to install carpet. Empire Today is nothing more than a middle man which does not know the quality of work that's being done. We signed up for a free in-home estimate with Empire because they have their 70% off sale and my husband and I are looking into new flooring for our condo. The sales rep came to our house in the time window we choose. He was very nice and personable. He told us all about the company and the products. After he measured the space he gave us the estimate-which we felt was super high! Even with the 70% off and an additional discount for getting the floors installed before Feb. 20th, it was still expensive. We are going to shop around and see if we can find a better price. But we had no problems with our actual sales rep. If it was cheaper, we would have had our floors installed by Empire. read more
