Recently (12/19/2022) I signed papers in person at this Hobbs, NM, office on a house that my…read morechildren's father bought for me. It's a bit of a fixer-upper. Nonetheless, I'm forever grateful. It was the easiest signing for a home I've done, mainly because I already knew what to expect, but also because my title officer, Amanda Serna, was straightforward and concise with her explanations. She made sure I was comfortable asking questions and gave me her card if I had any follow-up for later. Amanda's assistant offered me a complimentary bottled water prior to my signing as I arrived a few minutes early. Their offices were clean and tidy. Afterwards I was asked if I wanted to have my photo with a giant key taken along with their adorable Christmas tree in the background. Parking was free and plentiful in a shared plaza lot. Prior to this in-person signing, I was required to use their "Transactions Portal" for all usual suspects: opening paperwork, a questionnaire, title documentations, property disclosure statement, notice to purchaser insured, etc. I really appreciated the use of this portal. It really made the transaction a smooth, positive process compared to the house signings I have endured in years past. I can't wait to get all of my major home improvement jobs finished so I can finally feel "at home" & proud of my blood, sweat, & tears. Thank you, First American, for making this a quick two-week process.

What has happened to this place?…read more When I lived in Hobbs, I came here several times over the years, mainly for the purpose of buying and/or selling property in the area. On several occasions, I worked with Danella. On at least two occasions, she signed papers with me in person. She is still there (at least as of July 2014), but the rest of the staff has changed. So this last experience with E&W overall wasn't that great. Why? Their customer service and communication skills. During the months of May and June of 2014, I was in the process of closing on a house that I was selling in Hobbs. E&W sent me very important paperwork via USPS, but they did not bother obtaining an updated mailing address from my realtor, sent the packet to an old address with the street name misspelled--further delaying the mail service. It was postmarked May 22, 2014 & I finally received the forwarded mail on June 7, 2014. Luckily my realtor clarified that they shouldn't need any additional paperwork - as alluded to within the packet - but I wanted a direct answer from E&W anyway so I called them that following Monday (June 9th). Never once did I get transferred to Danella via phone, though. I should have asked to speak to her, but the woman is literally always piled up with paperwork - so much that she probably wouldn't have gotten to my call right away. Instead, I spoke to the seemingly young lady who prepared the paperwork in my packet. I nicely and tactfully explained to her that all of the business on my end was being conducted long-distance - in California - and that I already gave them (E&W) not to mention my realtor my newest mailing address. She didn't even apologize, but matter-of-factly asked for my "new" address and said "okay, I'll make the changes to your address." So then I asked specific questions about the items that they needed in the packet. She, of course, didn't have an answer for me and did not offer to transfer me or get back with me later that day. That is NOT the type of service I have received in the past. Very disappointing and unprofessional. I ended up with more questions a few weeks later (after the closing documents had been signed). I'm pretty sure I spoke to the same girl, but she didn't state her name when she answered. Maybe she memorized my number... Again, very disappointing and unprofessional service in response to my questions. At one point, Danella herself even emailed me. I should have stated within the email "Will you please reply back?" or something to that effect. I thought for sure she was going to, but never did. I don't appreciate their lack of communication with such important information and time-sensitive documents. This whole experience made me think that they aren't communicating very well with realtors in the area either. If E&W was accredited with the BBB, you can bet that I would have already filed a complaint. Again, what happened to this place? Was my experience alone just a fluke? One final thing... E&W allowed the buyers of our home/property to sign their name where my husband & I were supposed to sign. It was probably an honest mistake, but when it comes to legal documents, contracts, & agreements we don't half-do anything. This is, to my knowledge, the only title & abstract company in Hobbs, America. Review #254

MTI Five Star Services - Updates made to my water heater brought it up to code with the City of Hobbs

Not only does MTI Five Star Services provide plumbing work for both residential and commercial…read moreclients, but they do contracting work plus services for utilities, water, sewer, and gas. They are truly a business worth the "Five Star Services" title in their name. Their 30+ years of service also extends into remodels and new construction. While they are based out of Hobbs, NM, they are licensed in both New Mexico and Texas. Back on March 1, 2023, I had a bit of a scare at the house I have been renovating for myself and my two young daughters. The crew working on my fence alerted me that my gas meter located in the alley where I rarely go was leaking natural gas and hissing. Immediately I called the gas company to shut it off and have a technician make possible repairs on their side. Meanwhile on the phone with the gas company, I checked the closet where my waters heater and furnace were located. As soon as I opened the door the natural gas scent wafted into my nostrils. I was mortified. While waiting for additional recommendations from my friends on Facebook, I started calling all the local companies I could think of. Because it was late morning, I thought someone would surely be able to swing by. The plumbers I called either didn't pick up, didn't do work on gas lines, or told me they couldn't make it until the following day. A nice man with Roto Rooters soon called me back and gave me MTI as a good local rec. I was so thankful and owe him a special shoutout, but as I write I have had no issues with the work MTI provided. No more leaks AND my water heater plumbing is now up to code whereas before it was not (I was informed of this during my home inspection - just didn't think it would be this soon that I would rectify that situation - LOL). When I called MTI, the nice lady on the other end of the line almost immediately answered my call and had the owner come over within an hour or so to check everything out. He was very thorough. From the beginning to the end of this project, there were no surprises and I was informed of what was going on the whole time. The only thing I didn't like was waiting for the inspector to approve MTI's work so my gas could eventually be turned back on, but I can't count against them for that because he's a city employee. The project was completed by March 9 with my gas back on approved by said inspector the following day. It turned out to be a bit of an ordeal with a tab of nearly $3,000 mainly because the line had to be dug out of the ground and replaced, but now my peace of mind is at ease and I feel much relief bringing my children and our pets and the rest of my family into this home now. Thanks, owner Mark Smith & employee Justin, for your speedy work & thorough explanations for me - the ol' worry wart. And thanks for always picking up the phone when I called. It was a tremendous learning experience not to mention a blessing that this happened while we were not living there just yet. Basically all forms of payment are accepted... cash, checks, and credit cards. I posted a photo of their business card. On another note, I love their patriotism and love for our country. Highly recommended!
