Marlena was excellent. She listened to me and did my hair exactly like I wanted it. She was very kind and also bought me a diet coke

The student was quiet but did a great job. Her instructors helped when needed and gave suggestions which she followed. The cost is minimal compared to a salon or other hair cut facilities. So if time is a factor, it may not be for you but if cost is the main consideration, you can't beat it.

I stopped in today because I had to cancel my regular hair appointment and needed a quick refresh--a V-cut cleanup and a pedicure before an upcoming vacation. You really can't beat the prices here, and the location is super convenient right off Hwy 100 and the freeway. That said, your experience really depends on the student you're paired with. Some are more confident, engaged, and eager to learn than others--which makes a big difference in the overall service. The same student did both my pedicure and haircut. The pedicure was good overall--the lotions and massage were really nice--but I was a little disappointed they no longer remove dead skin, which is something I personally look for. Color selection is somewhat limited, but still decent. My haircut was pretty simple--just a cleanup with added layers. The instructor did step in to guide the student, and while it wasn't done exactly right at first, the instructor finished it off and it ended up looking good and much healthier. I also got a shampoo with a really nice scalp massage, which was a highlight. I do like supporting the students and the learning environment, but it's important to go in with realistic expectations. It's a great option for affordable services--you just have to remember they're still learning.

This place is wonderful in my opinion. I've been here more times than I can count getting layers,…read morepartial highlights, and face framing layers. Easiest way, and the only way I've gotten an appointment is by calling to book, typically there is flexible availability. And as of lately the front desk has been way better at answering calls, or getting back to voicemails. It is a school with learning students, but by no means are you really a guinea pig. Theres always an experienced professional second opinion, and supervision. Services do take a little bit longer so if you're in a rush, or impatient this ain't the place for you. But if you like being submerged and also appreciate learning things along the way about your hair, you can tell the students are happy to answer with what they know. The price point is so affordable, and you leave feeling pampered because each service comes with a wash and blow dry/style. It's also conveniently located near a shopping strip, which includes places like TJ-Maxx, Old navy, Nordstrom Rack, j-crew and Whole Foods. Kaylee seems very confident and knowledgeable in coloring, and also has such a positive attitude. It's relatively a busy space, mixed crowd.

I didn't have an appointment but was able to walk in, wait about 20 minutes, and then get matched with a student stylist. The environment felt chaotic, with lots of people coming and going, customers waiting on the bench and stylists sitting around. It wasn't always clear how the process worked, and communication from the front desk to customers could have been better. They also mentioned free Wi-Fi, but no one knows the password! My cut took about an hour and 30 minutes, which is longer than expected for something so simple. However, since this is a training school, students need to pause for instructors to check their work, which explains the pace. In the end, only about an inch was trimmed off, and my hair looked the same. I saw there were very little hair on the floor. It was a ln ok experience for $15, but not something I'd likely do again.

It can be a little intimidating knowing some of these clients have been coming here 20 years or more but they are fantastic! They know we are students and are extremely appreciative and also give feedback to help us improve. Here we are taught multiple services that other schools are not such as microdermabrasion (my favorite), dermaplaning, and multiple types chemical peels. Not only are we taught how to perform these services but taught the knowledge on how they will benefit particular skin type(s). When knowing those two key factors you will provide your client with the results that he/she is looking for. Another thing that you will get from this school that you will not get from any other school is knowledge of all Gail's experience. It is one thing to learn from a book but it is another thing when you have someone with 30+ years share all of her knowledge, experiences, and even some mistakes she's made. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and passionate. I graduate in approximately two months and I'll be back as a client and to say hi to those who taught us so well!

I wasn't sure what was happening but continued to ignore her and then she started acting as if I was stinky because then began spraying air fresher. The whole class felt uncomfortable. I wanted to take a full course but NOPE that lady is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and should not run a school if she can't handle dealing with a diverse population. When I finished the course she said the certificates would be mailed but I never received mine and had to call regarding it. She claimed it was placed in the mail and it would be expensive to reprint. She finally reprinted it but told me to come and pick it up. I would not recommend this place!

I don't know much about hair coloring or highlights, so I explained the look I wanted and even showed a Pinterest picture for reference. My appointment was at 9:30 AM, but the consultation and color mixing alone took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The first highlight wasn't even applied until almost the second hour of my appointment. When the highlights were finally done, they turned out extremely light -- almost blonde -- which was shocking because that's not what I asked for. The instructor had to step in and help correct and even out the color. This is also not my first unpleasant experience with one particular Latina instructor with dark hair. Both times I've been there, she has been very rude and rough while handling my hair. Her long nails scratched my forehead multiple times, and she pulled and grabbed my hair very aggressively. When I politely asked her to be more gentle, her response was, "I'm just trying to make it fast." To be fair, the final results didn't turn out bad after they corrected the color, but I didn't leave until 4 PM for a 9:30 appointment. I've previously been to Tricoci University, and they were much friendlier, more professional, and much quicker with their services. I wanted to give Empire another chance, but the instructor's attitude and behavior made the entire experience stressful and uncomfortable. Sadly, I won't be going back.

The first time I had made an appointment, when I showed up, salon services were not even open! Today they said there was no appointment for me. I showed them my phone with the call on it. They didn't think it was the right number. When I hit redial, their phone rang. So that was the difficult part. The good news is Nareni did have time to cut my hair. She was kind, thoughtful, and did a great job. So in the end, everything did work out. She was so good that I already booked my next appointment. I am seeing a response to a negative review that says instructors keep a close eye on students. Not true in my case. There was no instructor to monitor my cut. I'm not sure where they were, but I didn't see anybody. I am grateful that I did end up getting a good cut with a very pleasant student.

I 1000% recommend her! Truly could not recommend her enough. Not only did she consult me about my daughter's hair, but she got down on my daughter's level and made sure the colors were exactly what she wanted, asked about the placement and was incredibly patient. Kate gave my daughter as many breaks as needed, made her laugh and even put a movie on the iPad for her (after asking me if it was okay). She went above and beyond, was professional, courteous, and kind. My daughter is beyond obsessed with her hair and has received a ton of compliments. I can't recommend Kate enough!
