I'm giving it four stars because this is the only venue that I have seen a metal show at where I didn't feel like I was suffering. The air conditioning in here is awesome. Even while I was being squashed up at the front of the stage I could still breath easily with the AC blasting. The bathrooms stayed clean the whole time and there never was more than a five minute wait at the bar. The only thing negative that I have to say(and it's a big deal) is that the sound is way off. I have never seen singers fight so hard to get the sound right through out each entire set. That was disappointing as heck but it is something that I hope Emos will fix. read more

It's really cool when you come wait in line 4+ hours early and then their will call setup is such a mess that you wait for about 3 minutes as everyone who was behind you in line passes you up! :) Oh, wait.. I've gone there for a few Metal shows and so far I like it. I like the fact they have bleachers there and since I am only 5'1 that would help me out A LOT. Unfortunately for the Anthrax show the bleachers were all full. I miss the Backroom though. LOTS of Heavy Metal and Death Metal bands would play there. Emos East hasn't really had many Metal or Death Metal bands come. I wish there were MORE good Metal clubs in town! read more

I'm not sure what the deal is with all of the bad reviews. Its not the original Emo's - I get that. For most practical things, though, this is a good thing. It is infinitely cleaner, has good, free, parking, plus its inside and air conditioned. The neighborhood might be a little sketchy, but its still better than most venues I've gone to. It doesn't have that raw feel of the old Emo's, but when I go to a show I want to enjoy the show, not look at how rough the venue is. Plus, the new one isn't the sterile environment everyone makes it out to be. Yes its clean and doesn't have as much stuff as the old one, but that's largely due to the newness of it. I can already see bits of character developing (for example, in the bathroom a stall divider had previously been ripped out of the wall and there was still a chunk of drywall missing. Next to it was written "This is why we can't have nice things".) This was my first show at the new Emo's, and I have to say I was impressed. Easy to get to and park, easy to get drinks (and reasonably priced for a modern club - 4 bucks for a Fireman's #4). Its largish and has plenty of space around the floor if you need it. The stage was nice and large so that even large bands have space to move around. The sound was quite good, especially considering the size of the venue. One thing I noticed, though, was that they have a modern digital board in the back. For the second band that played the guy who ran it didn't know what to do with it so the sound suffered a bit, but with the big name bands that had competent engineers it sounded great. All-in-all this was one of the better venues I've been at to just go and enjoy a show. If I could, I would give it 4.5 stars, but I just don't think its good enough to warrant 5 stars. read more

Visited the club for the first time last night to see Spiritualized. I had no problems with long lines at the bar nor did I have any issues with parking. The ladies restroom was surprisingly clean and well maintained. I saw a couple of staff members circulating throughout the crowd but did not experience the 'flashlight in the face' as some yelpers have reported. The only issue I had was with the sound quality. The sound was muddy and distorted. My friends and I moved around the club to see if the sound experience changed in different sections of the club but nope, still sounded muddy wherever we stood. It's a shame, the club seems to have everything going for it except their sound system. read more

This venue is small & intimate and has AMAZING AC! So don't worry about sweating in the midst of the summertime. Security & staff were super polite and helpful! I arrived like 15 minutes late to a meet & greet and they were super understanding and still let me in. Bathrooms were incredibly clean, bar had lots of liquor to choose from as well so you know that's a plus! Great experience at this venue! read more

This place is not disability friendly. I have chronic pain due to a lifelong illness, and when the show started getting closer, my pain flared to a level that would make it impossible to attend. I asked for a refund and they refused. I am out $60 that I would have spent on the increase in medication needed during my flare. read more

You would think it wouldn't be hard for a human being to smile, nod, and greet another human being, but the staff at Emo's East manages to make it seem like rocket science. They were either too passive, busy on their phone, bigoted, defensive, or bored when I interacted with them. I don't remember his name, but the one bartender I dealt with seemed like a genuinely nice guy. The rest of the experience, albeit positive, was cheapened by the staff. read more

Saw Lauryn Hill at Emo's on 12/6/14. Great place for a small concert. Plenty of bars to get drinks from. Be prepared to stand. The checkin process was really easy, the tickets were on my cell phone and they just scanned from that. read more

Currently new to Austin and I must say that my first encounter at Emo's (Juicy J) was fascinating and I was overwhelmed by such friendly people. The venue was huge and surprisingly there was no fee for parking. I will continue to come here and believe Austin and I are going to get along just fine :) read more

Been to emos once before not satisfied at all so I wasn't planning on going back...HOWEVER I was convinced to attend for some sxsw shows and the vibes here were completely different! security used to suck, but walking up this time was the exact opposite. - I don't quite remember her name? but the chick who took my ticket was funny as shit and her bright energy lit up the whole entrance. I immediately felt comfortable and at home, which is a feeling I wasn't expecting from a bar..on riverside to say the least. - The drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders obviously knew what they're doing..quick service and bombass drinks! plus theres 3 bars..inny minny miney moe, a woman always like choices! -as for the sound?..its bumpin! you can hear the music from pretty much anywhere in the venue, especially the smoking patio which is a huge plus! -parking still sucked, I spent like 10min looking for a spot.. but did you know you can park all UP and DOWN burton? (the street parallel to emos) and not be towed?! Thanks to the ladybouncer I got primo parking, and I wasn't one of those many people pissed off and car-less after the show. which was like the best thing ever. Overall emos, you did me right during sxsw. cool bouncers, clean bathrooms, good lookin bartenders, jammin music.... What more can a girl ask for?. I just visited the new Emo's @ psych fest 5 last weekend and they managed to completely destroy my favorite and most anticipated musical event of the year. The place is big, and the AC is great. But aside from that the new Emos is a complete train wreck in my opinion. My biggest complaint is in regards to the sound. The place is shaped like a giant cave, and the sound was so muddied and distorted that you couldn't hear the lead part for any band. During The Black Angels set the sound was very muffled; then about halfway through the set the sound jumped up 20 decibels as if they had half the speakers turned off. The Brian Jonestown Massacre headlined the event and not only could you not hear the lead guitar during any song but there was also massive feedback taking place during the entire set. So much so that Anton had to stop and say something about it over the PA On top of the sound issues the staff were incredibly pushy and rude. Constantly walking around with flashlights scoping everyone up and down just looking for someone to bust. "Yes I'm sitting here calmly minding my own business. Would you please get that flashlight off my face and stop mean mugging me?" As far as I'm concerned , a club is above all supposed to be able to provide a good quality sounding show. If you can't do that then you should just close your doors right now read more

I live across from Emo's and I think they have a great selection of artists on the line-up. However, out of two trips I have had two bad experiences with the staff. The first time the bouncer took my purse out of my hands and pulled every single item out. I've never had anything like that happen to me and my purse is a small crossbody. When I asked him to stop and offered to take the items out myself he lost it on me. Luckily my husband was nearby to intervene, but I could hear him complaining about me as I walked away. The second time no issues at the door in fact no purse check at all. I purchase a Topo Chico and enjoy the show. The Topo Chico's are fairly large there so I had half a bottle left. As I'm leaving a bit before the show ends an officer/bouncer rips the bottle out of my hands. I think he felt stupid once he saw it was water, but regardless damage done. It was rude and he didn't apologize. I'm still new to Austin, but just because they want to keep it weird doesn't mean they have to be jerks with no manners. read more

this review is more for the ticket service they use than the venue itself. my boyfriend & i tried to see beabadoobee at this venue 11/16 at 7pm. we bought the tickets a few days before through their ticket site Front Gate Tickets and ended up getting the insured ones for a little extra, just in case. when buying them, NO WHERE did it say that there were exceptions/rules, just that if you needed to cancel you could. as we're on our way to the venue, we got into a car accident and couldn't attend. since then we've been hounding FGT to get a refund and when we finally got a hold of them, they told us that they could only do a refund if we had "a police report or a hospital discharge report". what? they refused to take any other proof of the accident (pictures, insurance claim, etc) and said that "there was nothing they could do". if i had known insured tickets were a total scam, we couldn't have bought them! total waste of money. SUPER disappointed in FGT and Emo's for using them as their ticket service read more

I wish I could give this place a review based on the venue and show but I can't. The parking situation is atrocious. Emo's shares a parking lot with another show venue and a strip mall so a good chunk of the parking is reserved for the shops. If you don't get there before doors open, good luck finding a spot. There's vans with trailers taking up 5 spots each. You can't park in the lots next door on either side without being towed and street parking is limited. After driving around for an hour trying to find parking we, dejected, decided to go home. I guess we learned our lesson, either completely rearrange our lives to drive down from Cedar Park in order to go to a show here or just avoid Emo's. read more

Personally I had a great time at Emos! The location is very strange i do admit that it seems to be in a bad neighborhood, but that was the only down side. i did not have issues getting a parking spot but i did showed up early. upon arrival we waited outside till the let us in, while we waited the security supervisor was very very kind! he greeted us and was very outgoing. Once we were inside Emos there was NOTHING i did not like, its very nice venue considering i been to different clubs, the lighting/stage was great and the noise level was perfect too! it was pretty loud!, if you are complaining about the sound system is because you are deaf! security while in the venue was very kind my GF dropped her cellphone over the rail and he came and picked it up for us. (other places they take it up or wait till the event is over and if your lucky they turned it in to the venue) the bar was good drinks were between $6-8 the only downside was they did not have much knowledge in drinks but they were very helpful by attempting. for the restrooms i would have to say one of the best i seen in a club very clean! The only factor to this reviews is that there were about 600 ppl that night (according to security) I would definitely go again! No Doubt!!! well worth my 3 hr drive. read more

The new location of Emo's makes getting to and from shows extremely inconvenient. Good luck getting a cab on Riverside at 1:30 am, and parking is pretty much nonexistent unless you arrive really early. Unless I really, really want to see a band, I will be avoiding Emo's in the future. read more

much bigger and has a more open feel than the last emos location. plus it is inside now and air conditioned. i was chilly most of the time. the beer (dos equis) was $5 for a 16 oz can, the bottle of water was $4. so i spent $9 just on my drinks. the door staff was good, bartenders = attentive. the people were cool, the lighting and sound has gotten better as the sound guy has been working on it over the past few months i'm sure. i may go back if a band is playing that i love, otherwise, i don't think so, and i will most definitely sneak in a flask full of my favorite whiskey. read more

Saw Opeth at this venue. We have seen Opeth before, but had never been to this location. It was easy to find, we arrived early so parking was not an issue. There were a lot of people there, but you could still get to the bar and order drinks. Once Opeth came on, the place was beyond packed and it was almost impossible to move anywhere. I understand that it is almost impossible to keep the A/C at a comfortable level when people are literally shoulder to shoulder. I just wish there had been an area where you can sit have a drink and watch the show. I realize there were bleachers in the back, but they were small and filled up quick. The combination of smoke and how hot it was caused me to leave the show prior to the end. Still, the staff was nice, Opeth sounded great, I would see another show here, but would be better prepared next time. read more

lots of parking in the business parking lots right next to the venue which is awesome..big venue..several bars where u open a tab up at one of them and u can order at any of the bars..they give u ur card back after opening up a tab which i love because i tend to forget to close out my tab..there are several bathrooms too which is nice..there is an outdoor patio area..the only complaint is to get to the patio there is only 1 door and with a lot of people trying to get in and out it was somewhat difficult especially at the psych fest..they should have made a larger way to get in and out of the venue to the outdoor area..but the stage is pretty high which is nice because i am short and there are high ceilings in there..lots of room even when it is packed.. read more

Been here a bunch of times as the back room and now have gone twice to the new "emos east" I love what they did with the place. Parking still sucks but thats just how it has always been there so no real reason to complain. Only thing i'd change inside is to add a few more bleachers to the back for us older people to sit between sets and jumping into the mosh pit. :) read more

Great concert venue! Sound is great, plenty of room, multiple bars and they even have a set of small bleachers in the back to relax before or between sets. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they serve liquor in addition to beer, waters and sodas. Restrooms were much better than I expected also. They give you a wristband for re-entry, admission and alcohol, which is great if you don't want to carry around any merchandise you buy at the show, just run out and put it in your car. All in all, we had a great experience and will be happy to come back for more shows! read more

I liked Emos better down town, I felt a lot safer. The two times I have had to park in the neighborhoods around Emos, I have been mugged and I was not even walking alone. Extremely disappointed my boyfriend spent his time & money on the supposed Talking Heads Hoot Night show!! Went last year at Antones and had a blast! Sad that we spent too much$$ on hot beer & had to listen to a funk band for an hour and a half before we actually heard a song that had anything to do with TALKING HEADS! Once the band was on, they followed with a 15 minute break 45 min into the set!! Been a long time austin & Emos lover, but pretty much done with anything C3!!!!! read more

I recently escorted my teenager daughter to concert at Emo's. I am a very protective Mother, and I would not hesitate dropping my teenagers off here for a concerts and being comfortable with the surroundings. The security staff, the security supervisor, and all the staff there are friendly and genuinely care about making this a safe enjoyable venue for kids and adults to come see great shows. It was clean, well run, well organized, and I appreciate what all of you to do maintain a great place to let our kids have some fun! We look forward to many more concerts to come. The new Emos is the most uninteresting place in Austin to see a show. It's a big grey box with no decoration and a concrete floor, no character, not even the character of being so boring that it's punk rock. It sits in an old crappy strip mall which contains nothing extraordinary. The parking situation is miserable, a mixed bunch of spots around the old strip mall, half of which have non-obvious towing enforced. This wouldn't be an issue if there was a good bike or bus route but, Riverside is the worst road to ride a bike on, and the bus only runs until eleven, it's surrounded by apartment complexes so there's no chance of parking in a neighborhood. Now all of this I might be able to overlook if they had some kind of amazing sound system but, they don't, the highs bounce off the walls in the back and the bass gets cranked up seemingly to hide the echo chamber effect, resulting in a muffled overly bassy sound with a completely dry midrange and tinny highs. I found myself, during the set of one of my favorite bands, exciting and reentering to go for little walks to break up the mundaneness of it all frequently enough that the door people stopped checking my wrist band. The beer selection is almost nonexistent and way overpriced, it's all junky domestics and you can't go anywhere else to get a good quality drink because there's nothing else there. read more

My only problem is that they seem to have a complete and utter disdain for flow arts. I understand when it's super packed and some idiot tries to hoop or spin poi or lights in the middle of a crowd, but when somebody who is clearly extremely experienced and is staying way towards the back away from the crowd and not getting in anybodies way I think you guys should allow that. Went to the shpongle show recently and it was great but, there was no hooping or spinning of any kind allowed. I mean come on guys, it was Shpongle. A LARGE majority of that crowd is comprised of hoopers and spinners. It would have made the night 100% better for a huge chunk of that crowd if they would have just let them do their thing so long as they are towards the back, or in a circle, or out of the way of the moving crowd. I spent probably 100 bucks here and was having a great time, but being able to spin my lights would have made this experience so much better for me and the probably dozens of other people who would have enjoyed doing the same thing. Will I go back here? I'm not sure if I'd want to strictly because of this reason. I'm not alone in this sentiment either. There are a ton of flow artists in Austin, this is what we do. Went to see the NYE Thievery show and for the most part had a great time. Sound was great, lines were easy, all smiles until...the lights go up and my girlfriend needs to use the restroom before we leave. We walk towards the restrooms and are met by a security guard telling us to head to the exit. I say "of course, she just needs to use the restroom". This guy very rudely tells me the bathrooms are closed and to "move towards the door". This is maybe 90 seconds after the lights went on. I ask how it's possible that the bathrooms are closed when the show just ended. The guard then proceeds to get in my face (I mean like 8 inches from me) and yell for us to "move towards the door" repeatedly. Unbelievable. How can any establishment not let people (especially females) use the restroom after being there all night and spending a bunch of money on drinks? Ive never written a bad review about anywhere, but this was too much. Hundreds of dollars to be physically threatened and to have my girlfriend almost in tears because she has to pee so bad. Couldn't find a number or email to get in touch with Emo's management directly, so here it rests. Sadly, when NYE 2015 comes up, I hardly remember the show. All I can think about is how awfully we were treated at Emo's after what had previously been an awesome night. read more
