This incredible space welcomes guests entering Full Frame Theater, as well as sometimes its neighbor, The Power Plant Gallery. It's a VERY unique event venue flanked by mammoth coal-fired boilers that were used in the original building. You can admire the elevator shaft to the right of the front door, or envision the unseen inside (but very visible outside) base of the Lucky Strike smokestack which The Boiler Room "horeshoes" around. Enormous windows, concrete floors and brick walls give this space the perfect impression for any event [can I plan my next birthday party here?!] No space has ever scream contemporary meets historic so clearly! The Cotton Room has insisted that they "cannot" refund the deposits paid, although they have done nothing to earn the nearly $20,000 that had been paid to them to date. We also requested a meeting with the owners of the venue to discuss the situation and perhaps come up with a solution, however the owners have refused to have a call with us. How can a venue that specializes in the business of love, happiness and weddings have such a cold, cruel and compassionless response to this tragedy that my son's family, his fiancée and her family are dealing with. Then, someone noticed that I had an un-opened can of non-alcoholic soda in the pocket of my parka, which I'd had from earlier in the day, it was a large coat with large pockets and I had simply forgotten it was there. I was immediately and rudely told to leave, and followed by security as I gathered my things and returned my skates as though I was a shoplifter or something, which I was confused by. I had just strapped on my skates and so asked to speak to a manager to better understand why I was being treated like this. The gentleman working security immediately emptied his pockets on a table and got in my face telling me that he was going to physically "put you outside if you don't go now! You have two choices!". Obviously I left. Good lord. Do better Durham. I will never come back.
