Its clean, only a few years old,and they have great service Its quiet, has free internet, free parking, small boutique style hotel The best part is the privacy and OMG the views....Breath taking views of CBD and Bridge.... The rooms are all suites... I only wish they had bath tubs instead of showers, but they make it up for it with the views... This is not the place to stay if you are trying to get the full Auckland experience, might be better to stay in the CBD, but for me I have been there plenty of times and at this stage and this age I prefer to stay on the North Shore!!!

The rooms are also very modern, well appointed, well maintained and spacious. Then, there is the location. It couldn't be more perfect, with great nightlife and the cruise ship harbor RIGHT THERE. And the views! The views of the harbor are spectacular! The staff at the hotel is so polite, anxious to please and cheerful. You like them instantly. The problem is that none of them communicate very well in English, (surprising, given that this is an English speaking country), and they are just not very good at their jobs. We had requested an early check-in and, when we arrived, they noted that, told us our room was ready and "just needed inspection" and to have a seat. They would text us when the room was ready. Great news! We had not really expected that they could accommodate our request. Well, we sat for over 4 hours. We checked in, several times, but tried not to be pests. In the end, it turned out our room WAS ready, but the desk forgot to text us . . . giggle, giggle. Then, there was the completely incompetent concierge. We asked about dinner spots nearby. We were a short walk from the major harbor nightlife area . . . as we found out later . . . and he never told us that! We'd just arrived. How were we supposed to know? We asked about a restaurant we had seen as we entered the wharf. He didn't know about it, but told us he would make a reservation for us and to please let him know what we thought about it. When we arrived that evening, they were closed for a private event and had no record of a reservation. He clearly never called. We often enjoyed cocktails or beverages in the beautiful hotel lobby. You had to point out what you wanted from a menu . . . and forget about extra requests like "a lime" . . . because the very pleasant cocktail staff did not understand what you were asking for and had no idea about normal cocktails. Having made these observations, I have to say that we had a wonderful stay and were pleased with our hotel choice. You just have to have the right expectations. And, the "Opera in the Lobby" was a really nice touch!

The bed and pillows were very comfy. Cleaning service visited daily. Our room was clean and had ample space for our luggage. The shower was super hot. We loved the staff. I'm not sure I have the name right, but it might be Yoso, he was the main desk person - he was amazing. So welcoming. He gave great tips on local places. When we forgot our key, he quickly got us access to our room. Fantastic service. We ate breakfast each day in the Fish restaurant. Excellent food and service. Great stay.

The Spencer on Byron has a lovely flash name but I do deeply regret never having had the chance to stay at the Mon Desir (check your Auckland history kids). Our room was nice enough and we definitely felt like we were in a hotel which is always a good sign. The ancient 12 inch tv was deeply uncool though. The views are amazing and just being by the sea makes you feel more relaxed. One problem we did have however was that the "heated pool" was frickin freezing. This was before our Indian summer and that pool absolutely needed to be heated so just as well the spa was. We used the gym too which is spacious and well equipped and one of the best things about hotel gyms is the folk - people sure do behave funny in them. Overall we had a good time but the main reason for that was Takapuna itself, not so much the hotel. I grew up thinking the Shore was a whole different city and in literal terms back then it was. Takapuna though is so close to Auckland (traffic notwithstanding) and has a really bustling culture going on. If only all the sub-parents would agree to move there : (

Great rooms, it was always a suite so don't know if they've changed that, and great food and service. The staff were great . . . and the concierge didn't flinch at my requests -- "I want a Harley Davidson tomorrow morning" and then came up with their own. . ."Mr Mead, would you like to go swimming with sharks. . . " Am blessed to have stayed there and would jump at the chance again except I'm no longer doing business in New Zealand -- shame. . writing this review makes me want to resurrect it. Decided to escape the summer heat in Hawaii for a beautiful winter wonderland in Auckland. We were…read moreonly visiting for a few days. Decided to stay at Grand Millennium because of the price and location. Everything was very easy to walk to and convenient. The staff here was very friendly. I loved how comfortable the bed was. My all-time favorite thing about this hotel was the bathroom. Because it was so cold outside, it felt amazing to come back and soak in a nice hot bath. I did have an issue at the end when checking out. The billing they provided me was incorrect. But after contacting the hotel the bill was corrected.

I hailed a cab which wisked me and my luggage to this lovely location with the nicest front desk staff who worked diligently to get me to a room as quickly as possible. Let me add here I was at the hotel at 9:30 AM and the room availability was 3:00 PM. Yes, I actually planned to check in and leave my luggage to tour the city....best made plans, I didn't plan on getting ill. It did take a couple of hours but I ate a great breakfast, drank several cups of coffee, a liter of sparkling water and tried my best to remain in an upright position in the lounge. The concierge tracked me down and escorted me to my lovely room before noon. I was pleasantly surprised by the furnishings and quality of the hotel, don't get me wrong I don't do cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but I assumed the first available room wouldn't be the one I reserved. Great king bed, soft pillows, huge TV that I never used, desk, bar, refrigerator, hot water pot....bathroom with a huge soaker tub, separate shower, double sink...I was impressed. Then I started reading the room service menu....oh yeah I was thinking I could camp here and never leave. Since everything converted to NZD from USD the prices were cheap by Hawaii standards. The restaurants and room service were top shelf. The staff from concierge to bellman were fantastic. The check-in staff were awesome. This hotel is five star all the way.

The Parklane Motor Inn in Takapuna was a great weekend get-away for my girlfriend and I. A mere…read moreblock away from Takapuna beach, a romantic walk through the sand after a restaurant dinner, a balcony and a spa pool in the bedroom- you don't need much more. The pool isn't as big as pictures make it out to be and is directly in front of the Breakfast room but it is nicely elevated above the car park and well maintained. They also offer a small gym and sauna although you may have to ask directions (they're downstairs from the pool area). The Premium Spa Studio I book was spotless and well priced. Parklane Inn is a nice place for a clean and quiet holiday or an escape from Auckland City, without breaking the bank .

The only thing you really need to know about this place is that it's all about location-location-location. It's easy to get to by car, it's a few minutes walk from the perfect golden horseshoe that is Takapuna Beach, and there's a multitude of bars and restaurants just ten minutes walk down the road. The place itself is a little tired and grey, but the rooms are adequately sized, clean and for the location very reasonably priced. It's a nice weekend getaway for couples - on those sunny days you can't really go wrong - so the missus and I have come here more than once. There's only one bit of properly negative feedback I have - some of the walls aren't exactly sound-proof - I'll let you reach your own conclusions there...

The reception/lobby area was pretty new but the whole hotel was a little outdated. It was probably the feeling that it used to be a residential area for families turned into tourism hotel rooms. On the bright side, the rooms were also updated with new bathroom glass, sink, and upholstery. The bed was comfortable and clean. Soap and shampoo were provided and there was also a mini fridge and a selection of teas and coffee for us to drink with a hot water boiler. Particularly in our room, the bathroom configuration was a little strange since the glass door to the shower didn't quite cover the entire bathtub, so we had to reduce our flow so the water wouldn't get everywhere on the floor. The summer nights do get chilly, so the in-room heater was a very nice touch!
