READ What you should know from my experience with Cleveland Nutrition. I cannot comment on their…read morequality of care because I have not signed up with them. My disappointment is with how they deceptively presented their services. On the initial phone call they would need an $80 deposit to book a consultation which would be applied towards services. I asked if they are like functional medicine and they explained the similarities (treat root causes) and the differences. So I thought I was going to meet with them to find out more about their services related to my health concerns and book appointments for testing and doctor visits. No so. I filled our their questionnaire online which was in-depth. At my consultation we spent an hour discussion my questionnaire and health history but NOT how their program could benefit me. I was feeling good about engaging their services and as with most clinics was looking forward to the testing and doctor follow up visits. However, at the end of my "consultation" they presented a "Health Transformation Program" that is a coaching program costing from $1730 to $2830 plus an additional $1300 for a nutrition plan customized for you by Dr. Gutman, plus additional medical appointments. NONE of this was mentioned on their website, or on my initial phone call, and only at the end of my "consultation". Also, the results of my "Body Composition Report" were never discussed at my consultation where I was measured. The clear focus of the entire "consultation" was a setup for their coaching programs. I called back at a later date and asked to have just the 2 tests and schedule follow up visits with Dr. Gutman and bypass the coaching because I have been practicing holistic health and nutrition for over 30 years and have gained a lot of knowledge. I felt the coaching would not benefit me much . Sophie told me I could not do that separate from the coaching packages and mistakenly thought I was asking for free services! I mentioned that I felt like I was deceived in that none of this was mentioned up front on the initial phone call OR on the website AND that my $80 had nothing to do with a medical consultation / evaluation. The website contains a generic mention of "our program" and nothing more. The intent of the original phone call was to secure the $80 and thereby lock me in to a "consultation" / pitch for their coaching. Sophie was very defensive rather than listening and apologizing for the misrepresentation and never discussing my body composition report on the "consultation". She only said she would go back and listen to the recordings of our conversations. Neither did she mention I was being recorded. No wonder they record all conversatoins - they say just enough to cover themselves but withhold critical information until the end! Beware.

I decided to try Physicians Weight Loss Centers in hopes that I would finally be able to lose the excess weight that I've been struggling with in recent years with the help of a physician. There was a Groupon available for a 4-week program and 4 B12 injections. When I initially called, I spoke to a woman by the name of Halle. She was kind and set up an appointment for the following Monday. When I arrived, she took me into the exam/weighing room. There was no doctor there and I have not since ever seen or spoken with one. I spoke to her about the program. She wrote out the contract and had me sign it before handing me a folder of materials outlining the plan and leaving the room help the other customers as she was the only person in the office. I was alarmed that much of the material appeared to be from the 1980s, including the weight poster noted on the wall, and I started to develop a general uneasy feeling. I was also shocked to hear her talking to a gentleman who was on a 500 calorie plan who told her that he would like to begin working out more. She advised against working out as his plan was so low in calories. When she came back in, she offered to give me the B12 MIC injections which included a fat burning agent. I asked her what the side effects were and she indicated that "they are natural so they don't have any side effects". I wanted to respond that they are natural which means they are not regulated by the FDA and could potentially have really bad side effects but held my tongue and wondered if people actually believe this! Thankfully, nothing especially troubling happened. She recommended Physicians Weightloss snack bars ($16.50 for 7 bars) which upon scanning on My Fitness Pal revealed themselves to be actually by a company called Slimgenics. Their program requires you to supplement with these bars and shakes each day. They say that they are the "cornerstone" of the program. I also purchased the 24-hour Thermogenic supplements which she assured me would have no side effects. She also advised me to stop taking my vitamins and take theirs because they were specially formulated. Upon analysis, the Physicians Weight Loss vitamins were substantially less nutritional than my regular Gaia branded vitamins but included an extra .5mcg of Chromium Picolinate which is also in the 24-hour Thermogenic supplement. I spent over $180 for a 4-week program, Thermogenic supplements, subpar vitamins and a box of protein bars with sugar alcohols, 10grams of soy protein, and quite a few carbs. Upon examination, the ingredients list and macros are extremely similar to the much less expensive Atkins branded bars. I followed the program for the next 4 days as outlined despite the bars making me sick and the 24-hour Thermogenic supplements causing heart palpitations and difficulty sleeping. When I returned that Thursday, I was told by the assistant, who was also by herself in the office with no sign of an actual physician, that I wasn't following the plan correctly and the first week is always strange because your body is adjusting to the plan. She said that none of their food has more than 5 ingredients. Are you kidding? Their ingredients listing has at least 30 ingredients, most of which are not natural. I actually weighed in at more than 1 lb since my last weigh in. She attributed it to me wearing jeans and I didn't even bring up the fact that the previous assistant had subtracted 3 lbs for clothes when I weighed in the first time so, in theory, I had actually gained 4 lbs in 4 days. I immediately stopped taking the supplements and anything recommended by the program. I returned to my running schedule and healthy 1200 calorie whole foods diet and now weigh 3 lbs less than I did when I weighed in the first time. Perhaps the supplements were causing water retention? Upon sharing my story, a friend indicated that her aunt had taken similar fat burning products that were attributed to two heart attacks. It is true that I went in the first time and only one check-in so I'm not sure how I would have done if I had completed the final three weeks of the program, but if my one week expensive experience was any indication, it wouldn't have been good. I would certainly recommend further research before signing up for this program.

Why say that you have a physician when you really don't. Why say that you have appetite suppressants when you really don't. Go somewhere else.
