We came to Elm for a weekday lunch while in New Canaan. Although on the pricier side, the food was fresh and high-quality with very generous portions. We got the double-double burger and fries ($29) and Lobster Cobb salad ($42, MP). I was impressed by basically an entire lobster's worth of meat in the salad, in addition to delicious avocado, thick cut bacon, fresh cherry tomatoes and a soft boiled egg. One complaint with the burger was that it was so thick with the double patties that I couldn't eat it without deconstructing it. The service was fairly minimal but still prompt and accommodating. Ambiance was nice with the natural light and modern decor. It made for a nicer lunch spot with very satisfying food.

Elm definitely seems to be one of the go-to spots in New Canaan! It was super busy there even for a Wednesday night when we went. They have a great cocktail selection, and all of the food we had was fresh and tasty. Some of our favorites were the bacon wrapped dates and the veal. All of the menu choices were great for the summer. Because the restaurant is on the smaller side inside, it did get noisy pretty fast, but it seemed like a community-oriented spot where the locals knew each other well.

In Connecticut's Gold Coast lies New Canaan, a Northern terminus of the Metronorth Train where popular architects built their dream houses in post War America. Although not much of these famed art houses lie standing, a few still remains. Among them is the PJ Glasshouse. Because of the affluence, there are many elevated chef-owned restaurants in New Canaan. Here's one of them, Elm. In pictures are Elm's open kitchen, dry rubbed ribs, medium rare steak with bone marrow, grilled artichoke, blistered shishito peppers, pistachio ice cream with dark chocolate ganache and home made raspberry sorbet. #curious_eater #newcanaan #connecticutgoldcoast @elmrestaurant

The birthday celebration continues, my husband picked this spot and I'm glad he did--we had a wonderful time (still) celebrating his birthday here! I was delirious from how hungry I was so I immediately ordered the elm street martini: grey goose vodka, lillet blanc, and goat cheese stuffed olives. My goodness, those big fat olives were god-sent, they were INCREDIBLE and the martini was so pleasant and went down nice and smooooooth. To start we had the field mushroom flatbread, tikka masala chicken liver mousse with port wine gelee, and a couple of pullapart rolls. My favorite was the chicken liver mousse, truly FANTASTIC...I was digging for the last bits of mousse with a small spoon after all the bread was gone. Next were entrees: I ordered the lumache pasta on the server's recommendation, she asked if I like spicy and I absolutely do. Carbs and spice, mmm! The other entrees: the black bass Thai curry style, and steak frites (I got to eat the bone marrow, it was thick and buttery). We also ordered onion rings for the table, top 10 onion rings I've ever had, and for dessert we shared a delicious little baby chocolate cake with vanilla gelato ontop. Since it was a Saturday evening it was pretty loud inside, when we left our ears were ringing but it's expected. Servers were nice and kept our water glasses full. If I ever came back I'd try the brunch menu and I'd definitely want the chicken liver mousse again.

I absolutely loved this new find and will be returning! I came to Elm for brunch and everything tasted amazing! From the coffee and grapefruit juice to the chicken bowl. I had low expectations of the chicken bowl but it blew it out of the park! Every bite was so delectable without the guilt! I also tried the wagyu burger which was also a fantastic option if you're hungry and in the mood for a burger. We got onion rings to substitute for the fries, and they were even better than the ones I had at Tao. However, I did think the price for substituting was a bit unreasonable and if I had known I would've just stuck with the fries. Nevertheless, it was an excellent brunch and I would come to Elm again in a heartbeat!

Just moved to Connecticut from Miami and have been ISO the right place for a nice steak for our first here. Elm did not disappoint! My wife and I had the filet w frites and damn! Awesome! It serves w two sauces which were both great and bone marrow which isn't our thing, but, probably good. Our wonderful friends had the ribs; tender, extremely flavorful and the half chicken, which was a hit. As appetizers we had the bacon wrapped dates, which you should try and the tuna tartare, delicious! We skipped desert, but won't next time! The service was pleasant and accommodating. As to ambiance, the outdoor seats looked great. We sat inside, which was pretty loud, but, still good. I don't think the inside pics on line present this place as nice as it is IRL. We will be back, for sure!

Apps: oysters, kale salad and cheddar pull apart rolls

Came here for the first time and we were not disappointed. A delicious meal and excellent service. We started with oysters, a kale salad and the cheddar pull apart rolls with the maple butter. The oysters were flavored with green apple mignonette and aji amarillo. The salad was one of the most flavorful kale salads I've had. Then for mains, i ordered an Atlantic steelhead which was a good sized portion while my wife had the pork buns (see pics of everything). We came on a Sunday night which main for a relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely be back. It was an excellent meal.

Elm in New Canaan was absolutely buzzing at our 8:30 reservation on Saturday night. In fact, buzzing so loudly that we could hardly hear each other, and it was clear that the wait staff was hampered by the volume of covers. That being said, the food was delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the Iberico Ham ($29), the Spicy Tuna Tartare ($25) and Burrata ($26). The Iberico ham, drizzled with arberquina olive oil was a real treat, with a taste slightly milder than prosciutto, but without the gaminess that normally accompanies prosciutto fat. It was delectable, with the only drawback being the cut of the slices, which was just BARELY verging on the thick side. The Burrata sat in a pine-nut pesto, which needed some salt, but the cheese itself was perfectly creamy and perfect to spread on the crisp toasted bread it was served with. Our best appetizer was the tartare, which was served on top of a sesame-flavored sauce, with just the right amount of kick. The flavors were salty, sweet, smokey, and exotic all at once. For entrees, we had the Smoked Half Chicken ($36), the Skirt Steak Frites (10 oz for $48), the Veal Piccata ($42), and one of the nightly specials, a Burger with Truffle Bordelaise ($34). The smoked chicken was so tender, it felt like cutting into some Japanese A5 Wagyu, and it tasted delicious, with the perfect amount of smokey tang. The skirt steak was nearly fork tender, a perfect medium rare, served with some rich bone marrow and perfectly salted fries. The only drawback was the roasted garlic it was served with, which was slightly undercooked and not spreadable onto the steak. My wife's burger was nearly flawless as well, and our veal was tender, if not slightly oversalted, but near perfect. For dessert, we got Creme Brulee ($15) which was a perfect rendition. It was at this time that our waitress disappeared and we waited quite a long time for our check, even though the craze of the night was winding down. Overall, Elm is A-level food, with B-level service during busy evenings, (and C-level atmosphere, only due to the noise). But boy, that food would bring me back in a heartbeat.

Mac & Cheese is like what I imagine velveeta & bacon to be....not southern, or seasoned. Goopy.

I wish I could spell his name without butchering it. I ordered the fish taco and it was delicious. We also had the eggplant fries, bang bang shrimp, and the banana nut oat crunch muffin, which was excellent. We ordered some other food like an omelet, and the tostada crunch wrap. I can't say anything bad about the food here. What I will say, though, is that this was a bit pricey for a brunch spot. $15 for a small glass of lavender mimosas ... yeah, definitely overpriced, but again, the food and friendly staff made up for that. My sister and I agreed we would be back. Oh, and the inside isn't too big but could use a bit of personality. It wasn't the most appealing, but honestly, this place is about the food.

What ties them all together is quality. Every dish on the menu at Rosie is great with seasonal specials that everyone should try when offered. My two favorites are the Fillet Mignon and Beef Brisket Tacos both of which I've ordered and eaten more times than I care to admit. For non-meat eaters, Rosie also has delicious options on the menu for vegetarians and vegans; and you don't have to be either to recognize and enjoy delicious food without meat like the desserts; speaking of which Rosie is known for its gigantic muffins. When dining-in, I highly recommend saving room for a muffin or if you're too full at the end of your meal, order one or a few to-go. The banana walnut muffin is insanely good! Regarding ambiance, the restaurant is small, casual and quaint -- a place you'd expect to see in a small New England town that's also rated the best place to live in Connecticut. During the Spring, Summer and Fall months, you can dine outdoors with your fur babies. New Canaan is a dog-friendly town and the people and service at Rosie are great too. There's street parking in front and a public lot just around the corner from the restaurant.

The app says at the top that I might consider "Food", "Service", and "Ambiance" in writing this…read morereview. I would consider all of those things but that would be unfair. Because I didn't experience any of them. I've lived in the next town for almost eight years. In that time I've eaten at the New Canaan Diner AT LEAST 100 times. This night was not special; just looking for a late night hamburger. It's Friday night, May 9. It's raining. The sign in the window says that they are open until 9 pm. I walked in at 8:40 pm. Ok, a little late, but I just wanted a hamburger. More than half of the tables were filled. All of the seats at the counter were filled. People were eating. All good signs. The waiter said, "We're closed," and immediately turned his back to me. Not "Sorry, we're closed." Just "We're closed," and I got his back. I looked around the room at all the people eating and said to one of the other waitstaff, "You're closed?" She looked embarrassed and said, "Well, the kitchen is closed...." She seemed to understand that her colleague's behavior was inappropriate in a retail eating establishment. He shouldn't leave this job to be a greeter at Walmart. He would be bad at that. I nodded and walked out. I'm having Japanese food across the street. I really didn't want Japanese food for dinner, but the food is always good at Hama and the hospitality is always superior. All the chefs at the sushi bar bow and say "thank you" as I leave. I'm sure that their gratitude is not deeply sincere, but it beats "We're closed" followed by an abrupt about-face. The diner is dead to me. At least for a while.
