They responded to us right away, and the meeting went very well, and so we decided to give CoachLand a try. What we like about CoachLand: 1. Reasonable price and that included a discount! Also, there is no contract. :-) 2. Friendly, and smart tutors. CoachLand has a great learning system, and they surely know what they are doing. We are confident that we made the right decision for our daughter! 3. Flexible schedules. 4. Parking is available in the back of the building. 5. The place is nice and clean. My daughter has had a great experience learning Math through CoachLand. She gained so much confidence about Math, all within 2 months of learning. We will continue with CoachLand for sure. Our daughter said that she really likes her tutors, and she looks up to them. She enjoys learning Math now because of this tutoring experience, and her learning skills have been improved. Thanks to CoachLand for the Great work!!!!

Ever since Simon, the Center Director at C2 Education, Berkeley abruptly left in December 2018, the entire operation has gone downhill. I, along with my oldest and middle child, had a positive experience with Simon, which led me to purchase an additional 100 hours of tutoring in the hopes that my youngest child could benefit as well. Little did I know, when the pandemic hit in 2020, these hours (remaining 56) suddenly had an expiration date that no one bothered to inform me about. Had I been aware of this, I would have never invested in more hours. I have had to deal with a constant turnover of incompetent staff: Michael, Andrew, Tina, Selene, Lisa, Jonathan...the list is endless. Each one had a different story, showcasing a complete lack of professionalism and consistency. And let's not forget about the condescending tutor, Christopher, who had the audacity to belittle my youngest child and suggested she had a learning disability. Why would a tutor ask if you're dyslexic and from another country because of grammatical mistakes and you're there for Chemistry? It was highly inappropriate for Christopher to make assumptions and condescending remarks about a students abilities or background. Despite the contract clearly stating that C2 Education has the discretion to reinstate hours, I've been met with resistance from Thomas, District Manager for C2 Education, who outright refuses to do so. It's an absolute disgrace on how they do business.  Consider this a public service announcement: there are plenty of other tutoring services out there that not only offer better value for money but also treat their customers with respect. Unless you want to endure the nightmare I have experienced, steer clear of C2 Education."

TLDR: Ableism, invalidation of students' efforts, lack of overall regard for mental health I got a consultation years back with C2 education, where I was put into an empty room and made to complete a practice SAT test. When I requested a break 40 or so minutes in, Simon got angry at me because the "real SAT doesn't work like this". He didn't know that I literally got back from my exhausting workplace that day and that I have ADHD, but he didn't even give me a chance to explain this. Then, he made me feel bad for my low scores in their practice test and tried to convince my parents to buy a tutoring package of some sort. I refused. Fortunately, I dodged a bullet! My sibling did end up getting tutoring from C2 for her junior year, but their "tutoring" was mainly Simon micro-managing her grades. She was in an honors course where most students were lucky to get even a C, and he made her feel bad for having a B on her report card. Awful. She eventually quit too and found a private tutoring who was far more empathetic and helped repair her relationship with academics. Meanwhile, my parents thought C2 was so "great" and helped her so much with academics - but I saw firsthand that it damaged her mental health. Fast forward years later, I am now a graduate student in the field of education, and I can confidently say that these types of test prep centers utterly terrify me. I have seen wonderful test prep tutors that know how to properly treat a student with low self-esteem or neurodivergencies, and this is definitely not the kind of place. Thus, I implore you: ASK YOUR CHILDREN what they think of a teacher and believe them. Especially if they are going through difficult times.

I am also getting a 'refresher' in math because she encourages parents to sit in on the sessions, and I am now remembering a lot of the concepts that I had forgotten about through the years, which helps me to help my daughter in a consistent way. It is wonderful to see my daughter 'get it' when it comes to math, because before we met Leba, she was really frustrated and shut down when it came to learning math and doing homework. Now she breezes through her homework with very little help from me, and is understanding the math at a deeper level. Leba is patient and has a way of teaching the math concepts in a way that is easy to understand. She breaks everything down to the basics and rebuilds a strong foundation of learning tools that my child will keep with her for the rest of her life.

Inspired by Marisa's dedication and encouragement, I once again began to write and meditate daily and reconnected to a creative flow that I was missing. I'm grateful for the rigor she brought to each meeting. In addition to the well planned arch of each class, and the workshop as a whole, Marisa did an incredible job of offering 4-5 writing practices between sessions to give us a range of options to keep us engaged. Two months after her workshop ended, I committed to writing a book and am drawing on material produced in her class. If you are looking for a teacher that integrates mindfulness and embodiment into the class exercises, you've found her. :)

Her ideas also felt like they never limited my choices, but rather served to shine a light on different possible avenues I could take in my revisions and future projects. She pointed out what was well-written without sparing me the rigor of a professional-grade critique of how my underlying goals might be served even better. We clarified my goals and intentions together, in an atmosphere of trust and good will. I was struck by how Marisa flows from one point to the next during discussions--her mind moves in ways that are consistently smooth, smart, and profoundly respectful of the work. The way she approached my work (and myself as its author) made richly evident the skills she developed during her years as an MFA student at the prestigious University of Iowa Writing Workshops. Marisa helped me to tackle technically challenging structural and thematic dimensions of my work as well as managing to allow me simply to hear and to embrace my writing voice more fully. She offered suggestions of craft books to read that would further support my writing process. Without giving me inflated expectations, she inspired me to pursue an MFA of my own, which I begin this year! Moving forward in my writing life, I feel I have been blessed, empowered, and expertly guided toward greater growth, fulfillment, and success.
