It was quite the drive to get up to the Carlsbad Gateway on the final day of this weeklong promotion at Surf Up Chicken. The business was located in a suite next door to a gelato shop, both of which were in this random industrial park. I wonder with its remote location, how much customer traffic it can generate from beyond the neighbors in this complex? Anyway, a bonus was that parking was super easy. Upon entering and checking in with the cashier to mark my name off the magic list, she informed me that each of us had a $15 credit to select anything off the menu. I really loved the flexibility of this offer as it opened up the possibilities. Normally, an Elite promotion is for one or two specified items. The offerings were obviously heavy on chicken, however I noticed some non-chicken grub like crispy shrimp, Filipino spaghetti, a veggie egg roll, and even Belgian waffles. My picks were the two middle entries out of the six in the Specialties section... Chicken & Waffles and Chicken Curry. They conveniently added up to $14.95. The first container had four mini waffles combined with around a dozen pieces of chicken nuggets. A self-service condiments station was available that provided ketchup and four different sauces with clearly marked signage of each name and flavor profile. I used the Golden Chicken Dip for the nuggets to add a sweet and smoky enhancement to the bits of white meat. The second bowl had white rice as a base with chicken, broccoli, and carrots in a curry sauce that was mild in heat and spices. Two slices of yellow pickled daikon (takuan) were included on the side. I got a # 1 combo chess chicken and spaghetti side with Texas toast and a Dr pepper. I order separate shrimp taco and eggs rolls. The young lady at the cash register was polite professional and went above and beyond . All the staff did. It was some waht busy whe. Me my elderly parents stop by. It was clean atmosphere was amazing you feel like they care a lot about you. I say 5 stars out of 5 for everything. The chicken was amazing texture and cheese sauce. My dad hates chicken of any kind but he love this chicken. I let him try it. The spaghetti was very good and the shrimp taco was amazing . Wish all tasted that good. Egg rolls were good. Surf's Up Chicken is located in an industrial park.  Friendly cashier took my order and brought out my food promptly.  For Yelp Elite week I was given a $15 discount. Lemonade Frost had tiny pieces of ice like an Icee.  Loved the mix of sweetness and lemon flavor. Fried chicken and waffles was sized about half a good sized lunch.  Waffles had a thin crunchy layer and a delicious sweet flavor.  Fried chicken was bite sized and had some dark meat and some white meat.  Flavor was delicious after I scraped off the little garlic bits. Crispy shrimp had a little bit of crunchy tempura batter.  Tasty flavor and the shrimp had a nice snap. Otis Spunkmeyer cookies were 3 for $2.50 so I tried them all. Chocolate chip cookie was crunchy on the outside.  Delicious mix of cookie and chocolate chip flavor. White chocolate cookie was extremely sweet.  Better have a drink nearby. Oatmeal raisin cookie have a delicious mix of oatmeal and raisin flavor.    My favorite cookie here. Had the chance today to try Surf Up Chicken in Carlsbad. Location is in an industrial park. The place is very small but impressively very busy!! I ordered the Chicken sandwich combo. The sandwich was good with their Yum Yum sauce. The real winner here though, are the fries.... super fresh and very crispy!! There are 4 sauces: Yum Yum sauce, Golden Chicken Dip, Nashville Hot, and Zesty Greenfire. All were really good and I enjoyed the creamy texture. The Golden Chicken Dip was fire!! It was like honey mustard w a hint of chipotle. Service was very friendly. I've yet to try other items when I return to the area. It's sweet to be Elite! One of the great things about Yelp, is that you can explore and try out new places that suites your tastes and interests. Sometimes, Yelp even invites you to try those places. Honestly, never would have stumbled upon this place if not for this event. Their location is tucked away in a small industrial complex two streets off El Camino Real. Definitely not on the main drag and small enough to be easily missed. So glad I was invited to try them out. Walked in late on a Friday afternoon after running errands. They pretty much cater to the neighborhood working crowd with hours Monday thru Friday 10:30 am - 6 pm. We were warmly greeted by Veronica. Super sweet, informative and patient with new comers. She took her time to explain their menu offerings. Eventually we ordered two chicken curry, surf and bird combo #2. The chicken curry is served over steamed white rice and comes with steamed veggies. Very flavorful and homey dish. The combo came with fries and Texas toast. Both the chicken and a healthy portion of shrimp were nicely breaded and fried providing a nice crunch with each and every bite. Sauces provide some extra tantalizing flavors. We were able to try their Yum Yum and Zesty Green Fire sauces. Both really enhanced each bite. The others sadly were done for the day. If I'm the area, definitely will give another try! It makes my heart happy to see this family business be busy. Most the people that came in were Elites. I do hope that they will return and help them out. I love their chicken sandwich. I noticed when this spot first opened several months ago. I had been meaning to stop by, but hadn't had the chance yet. I also kept seeing it pop up as recommended on my Yelp home page. I've been looking forward to it since I saw it come up as an elite week event. I met two other elite friends there. When we arrived the only others inside were a couple that were finishing ordering. It's a small bright space in the former Bologna gourmet location. The decor is very cute and they have indoor and outdoor tables. We were greeted so warmly, it was nice. The owner (endeavor I think he said his name was) told us to disregard the ordering of a combo meal and order anything up to $15. Such a generous offer and it didn't stop there. I ordered the #2 combo with shrimp and chicken and subbed a strawberry lemonade frost in. I paid the difference and tried to tip but he absolutely would not take it. Everything was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The sauces complimented it all nicely, I got all 4 to try. Yum yum sauce, golden chicken sauce, Nashville hot, and zesty green fire were all good. I think I liked the Nashville hot the best. The golden chicken sauce was pretty good with the shrimp and it all tasted good with the fries dipped in. The Texas toast was good, as was the strawberry lemonade frost. He offered to add lychee gel in it but I think I'll try that next time. I could not finish it all, so I ended up bringing some home. Before we left the owner insisted all of us who were still in the store have a Cookie. Way too generous and again he wouldn't take no as an answer. We even tried to split one but that wasn't happening. I got the white chocolate macadamia which he said was his favorite. I didn't try the others, but I have to admit the it was very good.. I just got back from my trip to Taipei and was going through withdrawals of Taipei's street foods, with popcorn chicken being one of them, and this hit the spot! Upon check in, we were warmly greeted and were told we had $15 that was good towards anything off the menu. I got the combo #2 which consisted of shrimp and popcorn chicken ($1 upgrade from just chicken), fries, Texas toast, and a fountain drink. I also purchased 2 extra pieces of Texas toast. The serving was generous, enough for my daughter and me to share. We got our drink and dipping sauces while we waited for our food. There were 5 sauces to choose from, and I sampled all 5 of course! Yum yum sauce (sweet & savory) Golden chicken dip (sweet & smokey) Nashville hot (spicy & bold) Zesty green fire (zesty & creamy) Ketchup I loved the flavor of the fried shrimp and chicken, and the fries were extra crispy. This brought me back to the streets of Taipei where I had popcorn chicken at the night market. The flavor was spot on! The Texas toast was yummy too. I was disappointed that none of the dipping sauces were spicy, even though they claimed to be "hot." At best, it was barely a 1 on a scale of spicy, with 10 being the spiciest. What would've made this a better experience for me is the option to add chili powder on top of the fried shrimp or chicken, or sriracha to add to the sauces to spice them up. Sriracha ketchup is the best for dipping fries! Overall, my daughter and I did enjoy the food. The ambiance gave the vibe of a '50s diner, perhaps because this genre of music was played and our server had a '50s hairdo. read more

This event was awesome! I had no idea the restaurant was even there, but I am so glad I do now and will most definitely be back! The food was amazing! I love the style of chicken using Panko breading with dark meat- similar to karaage. After learning it's marinated for 3 days in organic broth, I was impressed! The shrimp taco was delicious! The fact they use a special oven to make the tortillas Just right shows how much love this owner puts into his food! All of the sauces are made in house and the variety is great! My two favorites are the Nashville Hot and the Zesty Greenfire! The cheese sauce was delicious too! The owner was so generous offering $15 comped meal! Went here around 3:30 on a Friday. Place was pretty busy! I ordered a number 2 and got crispy chicken with fries and a side of garlic toast. It was all delicious! I ate the toast quickly and marveled at how crispy the chicken was on the outside but yet how tender and delectable the meat on the inside was! The fries were also delicious and l am really picky about fries in general. There were no soggy limp potato sticks here! They were hot, fresh, and delightfully crisp as l ate them. I really appreciated how fresh and tasty my entire meal was. I also substituted the fountain drink for a milk tea with boba and l was actually really impressed at how good it was. Boba is a weakness for me, so l am so glad they not only have such a lovely treat for a drink, but that it's also done well. Service was super sweet and helpful. The girl at the register was on it. As soon as a table vacated, she was up and cleaning it right away. She was very cordial, had a great smile, and was always upbeat and positive. I wish more people had someone like this representing their restaurants. I loved that they had so many different dipping sauces. The Yum Yum sauce and zesty Greenfire were my favorites. The Wife and I stopped in before they were closing, but we made it in enough time to not be rushed. The owner was very kind in helpful. He helped us figure out some different items to try to make the most of our elite experience. I ended up getting a bowl of the crispy chicken with cheese on the side, fries, a chicken taco, and ordered a Thai iced tea. They even threw in a a free cookie at the end. Well the Chicken was pretty good (and crispy) and a bowl was enough to fill me up. The cheese was good with the chicken and fries, but its kind of just regular nacho style cheese. The Sauces were ok, and I did try them all, I think I preferred the Golden Chicken dip but I felt like a BBQ or Honey mustard or Ranch would have been a good edition. I might be missing the point here. The Nashville hot was ok too, but not very hot, pretty good flavor though. The Thai iced tea was a good paring and refreshing. They do close a bit early (6:00) so maybe this is more of a lunch place? It's in a bit of a strange location, so hopefully these reviews help to get their name out there. There is a brewery around the corner, so this is probably a great place to stop before or after visiting that one, but they do close at 6. I heard the Spaghetti was great, but didn't get to try it. Spaghetti at a chicken place? Well, why not! I will have to try it another time. All in all this was a great yelp event, and I would try this chicken place again. I have been wanting to try Surf Up Chicken but it's only open M-F and I never went out of my way, but for yelp elite- I had to do it. It's a small little place in a business center with a tough parking situation. The place was packed! It was like a nightclub with the lights on. The team from Surfs up was friendly and efficient. A couple tables outside, like 6 inside. The menu is a hodgepodge of items in my opinion. Unique and interesting. I opted for the cheesy crispy chicken, spaghetti and the lime tea. The chicken was unique with like a rice crispies texture and nacho cheese on top - good but too salty for me. Was the rice crispies actually salt? The spaghetti was a big portion and really sweet. I didn't realize this place closes at 6 pm so I rushed to get there before they closed. I appreciated the signs showing where this place was trying to find the place. The parking is not too bad and I was able to find a spot. When coming inside, Endeavour (the owner) was very friendly and took my order just fine. I was trying to give him a tip but he said he didn't want it, which I felt terrible considering I'm coming here for the Elite Experience. While I was waiting, a customer who was waiting for his takeout food asked if it was my first time coming and when I said yes, he said I'm in for a treat so I had a higher expectation for this place. It was funny that I swarm of fellow Yelp elites started to come in and all seats were filled by almost all of us. There are 4 tables (2 seats each) and 3 high top tables (3-4 seats each) so just be aware it can be tight. I got my order, which I ordered the combo #2... I have to say, it's probably my top/favorite chicken place so far! The food was so fresh and warm. And the chicken was super crunchy and juicy The sauces (which are all homemade) are all so good too! I would have chatted and gave more compliments to Endeavour about it but it seemed like he was the only one working in the front so I didn't want to interrupt him but this place is definitely great! Just so happened to be in Carlsbad during lunchtime today and got to hit up the elite week spot! This place is in a business park strip. Looks like primarily a lunch spot but they are open until 6. I ordered the #1 combo which came with chicken, fries, TX toast(howdy) and a drink. It was a lot of food and I couldn't finish! I'm not huge on fried food but for what it is, it's delicious... The only drawback I though was the sauces, the cheese sauce that came with the chicken was kinda like movie theater nacho sauce and some of the sauces that claimed to be hot or fire were pretty mild .. other than that a solid 5 star for the food and the great customer service! read more

Surf Up Chicken is near my work and I had seen it pop up a few times on Yelp while searching for lunch but wouldn't have known otherwise and was thankful for this event to let me try them on the house. I got the crispy chicken meal, chicken and fries were both crispy and tasty. The chicken seasoning has a sweet smell on the nose but not a sweet taste on the bite. But I am so glad, I got to try this place. It was so popular and very busy when I was there with non-stop orders and customers coming in. I think eventually they may need to seek a bigger location. So for food, I ordered their shrimp and chicken with fries, a Texas toast, and a fountain drink. They are known for their chicken, but I love the shrimp a lot more. It was cooked well with great seasoning flavor. What stood out the most to me were their dips/sauces. I was able to try a majority of the dips/sauces and I love the golden chicken dip. Surf Up Chicken really took me by surprise this week. I didn't expect anything terribly unique but wow, it was so very tasty. I ordered a combo with a bowl of chicken, fries, toast, and a drink. Regarding the chicken, I actually paused and said "wow" to myself after my first bite. Juicy, tender, flavorful, and unique! There was some kind of Parmesan rub on top and it was like a tiny delicate boneless wing. The fries were also crispy and delicious. I enjoyed every bite and the dipping sauces were fantastic! I included a pic to show what each one was called. My fave was the Yum Yum sauce (original sauce) and the Nashville Hot. But there were many options to choose from. The service was lovely. It's a cute little shop that you'll definitely miss if you aren't careful. The woman behind the counter assisting us was super friendly and helpful. The store was very clean and had a few tables inside/outside which were perfect for having a little lunch break. The $15 credit was generous and allowed us to try multiple things which we also purchased. I got the chicken and shrimp and my boss got the chicken with cheese which she loved. I did not get the chance to dine in as they were closing at 6pm so I called to place an order Togo. I was greeted with a lovely host. Upon arrival, my order was ready within 20mins. I ordered the Crispy Chicken combos with broccoli/rice and fries. Crispy Chicken is very flavorful and delicious dipped in the amazing sauces. For me, however is a bit oily and heavy on my stomach. This is only the second Yelp elite event I've attended and I'm glad I made the list. I wouldn't have known about Surf Up Chicken otherwise so thank you Audrey for putting it all together. I stopped by during lunch and found parking right in front. The staff were great and very friendly. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. They were busy so the seating inside was taken but they have seating outside as well. The service was great, although they were busy I didn't wait no more than 10 mins for my order and there were 2 people waiting in front of me. I ordered a combo with half chicken and half shrimp and upgraded my drink for a strawberry lemonade. The lemonade was amazing! I would definitely order that again. The chicken was nice and crispy, the shrimp had flavor and the sauces were the cherry on top. My favorite is the golden chicken dip, it tastes like honey mustard. SURF UP CHICKEN! This is my second yelp event and I absolutely loved every aspect of this place! It is located in Carlsbad, and actually where my boyfriend does Kickboxing right next door! Super convenient and I was so pumped to try this place out! The ambiance was bright, everything was clean, and the food was delicious! I ended up getting the combo #1 as the worker claimed it was one of the most popular, chicken with cheese on top! There was also texas toast, which was extremely soft, fries which were hot and crispy. What I didn't really like was the fountain drinks, I wish they had a freshly squeed juice or something that was a lot more higher quality than your average fountain drinks. Regardless, still good to have with the combo. Parking itself was right in the front, and it was free. I really enjoyed the sauce station which had over 5+ sauces, and is highly recommend trying their original "Yum Yum" sauce, as well as the Nashville Hot if you want a kick! Tucked away in the business area of Carlsbad , Surf Up Chicken is a small and casual restaurant that serves crispy chicken dishes with an Asian fusion twist. I got to try a chicken curry with rice and a small soup. I totally missed the boba drinks, which means i have to come back another time and try it! Wow, what a great experience! Thank you, Audrey, for setting this up, and thank you Endeavor! This is a small, local business, tucked away in what I would state is an industrial park-ish type area. Endeavor was very friendly and passionate about his menu, he was very happy to share his favorites, and suggestion. Even though it is not a massive menu, everything looks so good! I went with Chicken combo with Fries, and I added a fish taco as well. The chicken was perfectly crispy and not greasy! The fries were so delicious, and the Fish taco was the best darn fish taco I have had in a long time! I would happily go out of my way to enjoy Surf Up Chicken again! read more

While I certainly have no aversion to a chicken sandwich, I can't say that it ranks amongst my favorite meals. However, I was intrigued by the featured picture for Surf Up Chicken. Was there any way that it could possibly taste nearly as good as portrayed? I figured no way, but was curious enough to find out. When my order arrived it not only looked just as good in person, but it also tasted as good as it looked. The service was great Ambiance was nice. Clean. And quiet. They do have a few outdoor seating areas I had the chicken combo #1 with cheese and a strawberry lemonade The chicken itself, I personally wasn't a fan of the seasonings of it. I can't quite put my finger on it. Not a fan if the cheese sauce. 2/5 The fries were good. 4/5 Loved all the sauces! I never knew fried chicken could taste this good. Remarkable! This is now my new favorite chicken joint. Thanks to Audrey and the Surf Up Chicken Team for a great night out. I've never felt more welcome during my first visit to a restaurant. It's apparent that the owners take pride in quality ingredients, great taste and tier 1 hospitality. I'll be recommending this business to all of my friends and colleagues. My wife and I feasted on the signature crispy chicken and we could not resist trying all of the sauce options. The Golden Chicken Dip won my vote! With too many options to choose from, we paired the entree with rice, greens and a house salad with strawberry vinaigrette that's noteworthy. Yay! Another Yelp event! HUGE thank you to Surf Up Chicken hosting this event, and thank you to Yelp for making it possible!! I drove up after a long, long day of work, and this was an absolute treat that totally made my day. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I pulled up to an industrial/business district, but as soon as I entered the establishment, I was greeted by a warm, savory aroma that made my stomach growl. This place was packed inside too!! It is a rather small restaurant with only a few tables and chairs, but it is very cozy inside. This is a casual dining/fast food experience, so you just order at the counter, and then they bring out your food as dine in or to go. The man who took my order seemed like the owner(?), and he was very friendly and sociable with all of the customers. He gave a lot of great recommendations that piqued my interest, such as the spaghetti side, which he said is reminiscent of the Jollibee spaghetti. Although I ended up ordering the #2 combo meal, that is something I definitely want to try another time. The menu is relatively straightforward, but there are lots of options to choose from. The combo meal I got came with their signature, crispy chicken, Texas toast, fries, and a fountain drink. My food came out super quick--I barely had time to sit down after getting my drink! Now onto the food review! First, the crispy chicken. The chicken was beautifully fried and seasoned very well, though I will say it is on the saltier side. The chicken was juicy and seemed to be dark meat. Meanwhile, the Texas toast was almost like garlic bread, which is always yum. The garlic flavor was very prominent, and I would totally order this toast as a side by itself because it was that good. The fries were some of the crispiest fries I've ever had; even after two or three hours, my leftovers were still crispy! I also want to note that this restaurant has a variety of different house-made sauces that are offered at the self-serve counter. There are so many different options to try, and it's very cool that you can pick and choose yourself. Personally, I really enjoyed the Nashville Hot and Yum Yum Sauce flavors. Overall, I would 100% come back to Surf Up Chicken. The owner/s is/are nice, it's good to support small businesses, the service is great, and of course, the food is delicious. The complex Surf Up Chicken is in is sneaky. You drive by thinking it's just an office park but there is a brewery, home brew shop, and multiple lunch spots scattered throughout the complex. I'm a big fan of fried chicken (really though, who isn't?) so this event was right up my alley. A buddy and I stopped by for lunch on Friday. The place was packed but they were very friendly, attentive, and the service was fast. Despite there only being limited number of tables, we were fortunate enough to find a seat right as our food came out. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the sammich. It was HUGE! There were some mixed greens and the Nashville hot sauce on the chicken already. That did not stop me from getting a selection of each of their 5 sauces. I love a sauce bar! Each sauce offered a different option: sweet heat, slightly sticky honey mustard type, and creamy heat. I dipped both the fries and the sammich in each to try all the combinations. I decided that the Nashville hot was my favorite sauce. The meat was dark meat chicken, which is perfect. The breading was crispy but not too much so that it poked your mouth.
