If you have a rental car like we did, the drive is not long (about 10-15 min). The scenery is gorgeous- we had a view of the vineyards from our balcony- and the hotel is so charming and well-kept. The lower level of the hotel has a fitness room and spa with a sauna, whirlpool/jacuzzi, steam bath, and a sun deck. It was all very pleasant and relaxing. They do charge 4 euro for the whirlpool but everything else is free. Parking is no extra charge and hassle-free...they have spaces right in front of the hotel and some a little off to the side as well. They also offer a luggage cart to save you multiple trips. Wi-fi only costs 1 euro per day. The hotel has an elevator and air conditioning! Bed was comfy. The breakfast here was very nice- we did not eat lunch or dinner in the restaurant so I cannot comment on the other meals but if it's anything like the rest of the hotel, I'm sure it's amazing. The staff, especially the woman who runs the front desk (owner?) is SO incredibly sweet and helpful. Anything we needed, any question we had, all we had to do was ask and it was handed over to us with a friendly smile. The staff we encountered spoke English rather well so communication wasn't an issue for us. Upon check-in, we were even given cards that gave us discounts at popular places to visit in town (the casino, Caracalla Spa, etc.) We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to returning some day!

It's seen it's best times, kinda dated - and we really had some awkward service issues here, multiple times. Last time, I wanted to check out the group (we were 20+ for our make-over-event Princess for one day). I was advised that they already charged the credit card on hold and had mailed the bill. Later, they charged me and said the bill was never paid. As we travel in three Mercedes vans (9 seaters), I had a bunch of people with me who all witnessed the situation. Still, the hotel behaves as if it was me who left the hotel without paying my bill. Not very nice, so make sure this does not happen to you when checking out.

But the experience went from good to bad quickly! When we were having breakfast we were singled out for being American and wearing metal tees. A worker came to our table and gave my husband the third degree on if he was actually staying at the hotel. After we showed her our room key she then continued to ask me if I was staying at the hotel. No thanks, not coming here again.

But my week's stay there was punctuated by restful sleep, delicious breakfasts, two absolutely spectacular dinners, lovely quiet surroundings, and very helpful and attentive staff. The old fashioned charm, successfully updated with modern comforts, made for a very enjoyable stay on the edge of the Black Forest. The higher elevation guaranteed snow almost every night - so waking up and driving through the forest roads and open fields covered with the fresh coating of white was such a nice way to start each day -- of course the fact that I did not need to shovel nor clear the snow off the car was a big factor in my positive attitude :-) Ask for a room at the end of a hallway - it will be more quiet than near a hallway door or the elevator. I changed my room - and the staff was quite accommodating. Very few people speak English, but the owner does, and goes out of his way to ensure his guests enjoy their stay. One negative is the poor wifi signal at the property.

The front desk and staff working the restaurants are all English speaking and very friendly from the beginning to the end of my stay here. The hotel rooms seem to be updated and are very modern throughout the room. The colors and paintings are tastefully done and the lighting really makes the room aesthetically pleasing from the moment you arrive. Then comes the bathroom, lol... They literally updated everything except for the bathroom which is circa 1985 and has a bit of a foul smell to it. Not quite sure what they were thinking about making the room modern but leaving the bathroom the way it was, not a good thing. Nevertheless, the accommodations were actually quite pleasing and this isn't a terrible place to stay. Pros- Modern updates Friendly staff Great breakfast Reasonable priced Spacious rooms Great beds Lighting Plentiful parking Cons- Bathrooms desperately need updating Smell from bathroom

Really, the only possible general complaint (besides the a/c being unavailable when it shouldn't be) is that the hotel is somewhat commercial and lacking in local charm. But it is competent, the rooms are roomy, the bathrooms are functional, the meeting facilities are professional, and the restaurant and bar are of good quality with excellent service.
