Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. It looks great, and his team were professional and friendly. Everything was on time and early. The work and materials are high quality to last a long time, worth the value. They didn't try to cut corners. He gave me instructions to water the concrete to prevent cracks and included a stabilizer, which is something previous contractors did not do (one of our other concrete pads cracked all over pretty soon after). Before we worked with Bert, this was a huge issue every time it rained, as water would sleep through the cracks into the crawlspace below. Other contractors wanted us to redo the entire porch, but Bert suggested a more conservative option of redoing only the really bad areas and touching up the rest. He and his crew were super careful to make sure dust didn't get into the house, covering all the windows and porch with plastic before they got to work. Bert also fixed another part of our brick pathway that was sunk lower than the ground level and made it look good as new. The guys from Bay Green did an amazing job with our backyard! The yard has completely changed its…read morecharacter - we had a mix of a concrete patio, a surrounding area with flagstones, and a large lawn. The water bills and the expansive soils were making it hard to sustain. So Delmar and his crew ripped everything out, put in a completely new drainage system, and topped it off with pavers over the entire yard. We had him put in a different style of border that looks fabulous. He had an electrician, a fence guy and an HVAC guy who took care of all the little details that needed to be done for a complete backyard redo. We added a seat wall for which he referred us to a travertine warehouse, he came with us to select the stones and built a fantastic seat wall. He added LED lights below the seats and below the steps leading to our front door, both of which look gorgeous at night. After he saw the beauty of the existing trees, he decided to put up-lights which just changed the way the trees look at night. He and his workers are so hard working, dedicated, respectful and pay attention to the smallest detail. Change orders were only for extra work initiated by us and their prices were fair - no surprises. Several neighbors have come by to visit and see the yard and there will likely be some who are going to fix their yards too. I had asked that we need to replace the barrier underneath. The got it done in about 2 days. The 2nd project we had grass installed in our backyard and get the sprinklers working again (previous owners never got it fixed, so I'm glad that it wasn't any major work). They did it all in one day. They did a fantastic job - so fast, but most importantly, great quality and such good value. We specifically enjoyed Stephen's approach because it was so "design" minded, compared to other landscaping companies that want you to have your own plan/design in mind- Stephen really takes the time to think through what you want, translate what you're looking for, and put it into a design that really works both aesthetically and functionally. Our backyard was a clay bound mess. If it rained during the winter, sorrel and other weeds would…read morecome out in the spring and it would become a hay field filled with knee high weeds. By the time the warm weather came around, our hardy weeds would wear down to a brown dust on top of packed clay soil. We might have tried parking cars on the hard pack. It was a hot dusty mess. When the rain came, one day of rain could turn the hard pack into a morass of sticky gooey mud which was hard to clean off the feet, and hard to clean off the dog. Our backyard was unusable about 3/4 of the year. Finally, we had a couple of slopes in the backyard that were a challenge to know what to do with...it was not an easy place, full of work. The best thing (among many) is that Steve is knowledgeable about plants, how they respond to the weather, and where they will grow. He is also willing to work with you, listen to you, incorporate your ideas, convictions, wishes and desires for the planning of your landscape. I do believe Steve was tired of seeing our number on his caller ID when we called, but he always got back to us, answered our questions and made adjustments as he went. We were definitely heard in our wishes. LIving Earth Gardens handled our soil construction (where they turned it from clingy, muddy cement to soil that would grow stuff) They cleared brush, the planted trees, fruit trees, and put in a drip system to help us water it all. From start to finish they had the tools and know how. They also put in some stairs to make the slope navigable. You will find the whole staff energetic, positive and conscientious. We are pleased with our yard and the effort that was made to get us there.
