The service was very nice and fast, and the food was good. The portion is a good size, although not particularly filling. To be honest, I do not really understand the name of the item I got (Thai Crunch), since I did not really feel like the bowl was Thai inspired. Elephant and vine was/ is a staple and go to spot anytime I'm in the Evanston and Skokie area. However, it seems every time an establishment adds a self order kiosk, customer service goes down the drain. Elephant and vine, sadly, isn't the exception. Today we visited and we're greeted with a very brief non enthusiastic hello and immediately told we can order at the kiosk. As we were placing the order at the kiosk we noticed the employees standing in the back having a good chat. I finally asked if it would be Ok to place an order with a person and the response was a very lackluster sure. The employee then walks away and continues the conversation with fellow workers. Finally she returns and takes the order. I have to say that, for the price that elephant and vine charges for it's menu items, customer service should be exceptional and self ordering kiosks shouldn't even be a thing. Save that for those who are ordering from the couch at home. I don't know if I will be back which makes me sad because I really love their food and I am passionate about veganism and supporting the businesses that cater to vegans. read more

For anyone looking for great vegan options I recommend giving Elephant and Vine a try. I tried the Porto Melt, sweet potato fries and the Oreo shake which was recommended. I enjoyed everything. I was particularly impressed by the lovely juices and tea choices next to the traditional soda flavors from which you get to choose when ordering meal packages. These packages come with fries and a large drink with infinite refills when you eat indoors. I've been eating vegan for a while now so I'm used to paying more for plant-based food. If we all became adopters, in addition to helping the planet, I hope the prices may eventually come down a bit. Fingers crossed on that for now... The plant based restaurant scene has been growing rapidly in Evanston and this place is one of the best! The space is not very big, perfect for a healthy lunch spot or a quick grab and go. Tried their wraps and smoothies and both are great! I got one of the green smoothies and I love how they are able to keep it really cold and thick with great natural flavor. I am neither a veggie or a vegan but I am trying to consume less meat for my health hand the environment. I am a omnivore but am huge on the carnivore side. I was surprised...This place is great! I've only had a few menu items because I can't stop eating them. So the four items I always get so far are the Ele Burger, the Steak Burrito, fries and the Buffalo Chicken. The Ele is a simple impossible burger with cheese substitute. This is my go-to most often when I am in the mood for a burger and fries. Taste like a good cheeseburger and so I am happy. The only issue is that I always have to ask for it to be cooked well, otherwise the center of the burger is mush. I am trying so hard to cut back on meat. For the carnivore, it's difficult. I want the texture of meat. Unfortunately the Evanston location is inconsistent... sometimes firm, sometimes mush. Then there is the Beyond Steak burrito. My first encounter was excellent, not too much rice, firmly cooked Beyond product, fresh and extremely tasty. Now I have to ask for the Beyond product to be cooked firmly and to limit the amount of rice. Sometimes... the Beyond product is scarce in the burrito and it's pretty much a "rice burrito,' but again the Beyond steak is darn tasty when done right. Lastly is the Buffalo Chik'n. I've only had it twice and the "Chik'in product is always firm, which is a winner for me. I get the Buffalo because the actual "Chik'in' patty is under seasoned. The crispy outside and firm inside is perfect but the patty itself is bland. I wish there was more seasoning so I could just get the Zero Clucks. However, once the fixins and sauce are on, it's a winner. Their fries are the BEST fries in town (Evanston). They are crisp on the outside, almost creamy on the inside, lightly salted and the most important, they consistently turn out this way. The only issue I would say this place has is consistency. When done right... you'd never know it wasn't meat and that is important to me. Unfortunately, more often than I would like, I have to ask for the meat sub. products to be cooked to the texture of actual meat. Istill give it a 5 because I am not going to stop going even if I keep having to give instructions on cooking the faux meat products. The food is delicious and the service is quick and most often friendly. I just hope they realize that texture is a huge part of meat (especially beef) and is important to those of us are doing our best to be part of a more environmental and health conscious society... help us do better and give us the texture we crave. read more

I love this place! I have been here many times - Baja Burger is awesome, Green Tropics Fruit Smoothie is bomb, the Fountain Organic Lemonade is delicious, and The Crispy Brussels are amazing just make sure you know who makes it. I can't remember the guy's name but he is amazing at making the brussel sprouts. He cuts them in half, grills them, and adds a little spice and balsamic vinegar to it. It is truly amazing! All I know is that he was an African American gentleman that made it. The other cook just gives shedded brussel sprouts and it wasn't as good. But if the cook I mentioned above is working, don't order one Crispy Brussel's, you should request 10 orders of the Crispy Brussels because that is how good they are!
