Let me take you on a step by step journey through my first visit with Dr. Kacie. First, I drive up to her office and find parking right out front. This is particularly excellent because I'm 32 weeks pregnant and going to see her for pain when I walk. Then, I enter into this beautiful, relaxing atmosphere, where soft music is playing and am greeted by her friendly assistant, who has opened the door for me. How nice! Next, I get the paperwork to fill out which is simple and straightforward. Not a moment after I am done, her assistant takes me back to meet Dr. Kacie. My first impression of Dr. Kacie is that she is a friendly, gentle woman who was sincerely interested in building and nurturing a therapeutic relationship with me. That was fantastic. And it's special when you don't feel like just.another.patient. Big giant points right there. She reviewed my paperwork, asked some questions, explained a brief overview of chiropractic, thoughtfully abbreviating it (as I had indicated a high level of familiarity with chiropractic care on my paperwork) and then with no further adieu, got me on the table, complete with pregnancy pillows designed for the mama belly! Let me say here that I've been to chiropractors before who before they will even touch you want to take all sorts of measurements and discuss your use of pharmaceuticals, even want to do x-rays. I've been to the type who want to see you every 3 days and end up hyper-mobilizing your joints and making your spine pretty unstable. As soon as I got comfortable on the table, Dr. Kacie started to palpate my spinal restrictions very gently. As someone familiar with body work, the BEST sign of someone who is going to pay great respect to your body is someone who doesn't need a lot of force to understand its limitations. She found where I was stuck, explained everything she was doing, and here's the best part.... SHE MOVED THINGS BACK INTO PLACE GENTLY! I got immediate relief, so much so that I started to laugh and say Yay! right there on the table. And just because my pelvis felt better didn't mean the appointment was over. She started at my feet and went straight up to my neck and head before I left the appointment that day. She suggested a follow up appointment a week later to check on how my body held the adjustments. Totally reasonable and responsible! On my way out, I was informed of her amazing policy for newborn care, options to reduce my out of pocket costs on return visits, and was scheduled for my follow up without delay. Let's review: 1) No waiting, completely convenient and comfortable location 2) No delay on treatment - 1st appointment relief! 3) A thorough treatment, not stopping at where my complaint ended. 4) Ultimate confidence in my safety and her mindful respect for my body and my baby. 5) Excellent bedside manner (which we know is not true of all doctors)! 6) She's cost conscious and works to help make her healing art available to those on a budget! She then sent me an email the day after the appointment, personally, to check on how I was feeling. I mean - WHAT? That's unheard of. I'm already a loyal patient of Dr. Kacie's after a single meeting, because I left her office feeling like she would naturally prioritize my health and well being without judging, pushing or harming me or baby. After working with an amazingly talented chiropractor in the area for a couple of years, I felt that I had come as far as I was going to with that individual, & that my body could benefit from branching out & working with someone new. I was referred to Dr. Kacie by a very good friend of mine who is a chiropractor in Arizona. I called Kacie, we chatted briefly about her fees, availability, & what I was looking to gain from seeing her. As we spoke over the phone, I noticed my body relaxing & moving more freely than before the call. We scheduled it, & 2 days later I was on a table in her beautiful new practice. Parking was easy-peasy! It's on a fairly residential block of Claremont. I was able to just pull up & park. No parking meters, no circling the block. Having gone to school for interior design, I take notice in every detail around me. Much like Dr. Kacie herself, her office is calming & peaceful, yet energizing. It's professional while remaining fun. The colors are soothing, but not boring. The adjusting area is very spacious & open, but maintains a cozy feel. Dr. Kacie practices BGI chiropractic, which I will break down in my layman's explanation as... working with the entire body; the muscles, tissue, & even the energy stored in the body before doing any structural adjustments. Speaking for myself, the actual structural adjusting is typically total ease once the energy has been released from my muscles, ligaments, etc. Dr. Kacie also encourages breath work, which makes the entire process even more yummy and relaxing. After a less than ideal experience many years ago with a chiropractor I wasn't very hopeful when my orthopedic surgeon suggested visiting one. Dr. Kacie Flegal sure turned around my opinion. She's helped me a great deal. My use of OTC pain killers has gone from a couple of times a day down to almost none. In addition to adjustments, Dr. Kacie taught me some exercises to help. Her demeanor is kind, caring, and optimistic. She's a great listener and empathetic. The pricing structure seems very reasonable, although I haven't surveyed other chiropractors. There are discounts for buying multiple treatments at once. The room has 4 tables in it and she will work on other patients during your rest periods. I didn't find this at all bothersome. Several of my sessions ended up being without other patients. I'm so happy with my experience at Elements of Being. read more

This was my first time ever going in to a Chiropractor today. I'm so glad Dr. Kacie was my first! I am pregnant with my 2nd child, and suffered a separation of my pubis synthesis during delivery of my first child. I am starting to suffer from lower back pains and pains in my pelvis again. Dr. Kacie was very knowledgeable about my issues, and very proactive. Though I like my OBGYN, I just don't feel like she is offering me much proactive advice on what I can do to alleviate, and possibly avoid the same thing happening in this pregnancy. OB's solution: Take meds. Dr. Kacie had a lot of information and understanding of what could possibly cause the pain and how it is actually a "symptom" rather than the "effect" of the problem. I was nervous to "get adjusted" because being pregnant. It didn't feel like she did a whole at first because her treatment was so gentle. But after about 2 hours of being at work after my appointment, it dawned on me that I am getting out of my chair and walking around with little to no pain in my lower back! Wow! I started going to elements of being when I was 37 weeks pregnant and my baby was breech. Dr. Kacie was wonderful, caring and extremely encouraging. Although my little one never turned I felt so much tension and pressure release starting after my first visit. Although I had thought about going to a chiropractor during the pregnancy I never found the time early on, I really regret that and wish I had given myself that opportunity. She has a wonderful cushion setup to lay flat on your stomach while she adjust the back. As all pregnant women know that alone was a great feeling. All adjustments were done comfortably and she always checked with me to make sure I was ok with the pressure that was being used. Now, my baby is two months old and we went in again to get adjusted. After two months of nursing, awkward neck positions of holding a restless baby, and ache back from all the sitting, I am looking forward to getting my body back into a healthy comfortable position. She also looked at my baby and immediately picked up on two things that I had noticed as well. As she adjusted her neck (no cracking or twisting) I immediately saw my little ones face relax as if her neck had been really uncomfortable. That evening she just kept turning her head from one side to the other as if "wow, this is how it should be", she seemed very happy and had never shown that head behavior prior to that day. I recently switched from non-pregnant patient to seeing Dr. Kacie as a prenatal patient and I have to say, its because of her that we are even in this position where I can be a prenatal patient. Our only life change has been adding chiropractic to my health care regimen and its been exciting to feel freedom in my body. That freedom helped us conceive after years of trying! Something I didn't expect would be a result of happy, healthy, vitalism thanks to chiropractic but so grateful for. I always look forward to my visits with Dr. Kacie Flegal. I go in every few weeks for a tune-up and float out of her studio afterwards feeling like a new person. Not just like a "less-aches and fewer-pains" kind of person, but a calm, connected, inspired, and energized person. She's got the knowledge and skills to help you with your injuries and musculoskeletal problems, but she focuses on adjusting you as a whole person. As a chiropractor myself, I'm very picky about who I allow to work on my body. I totally trust that she's not going to hurt me. She's capable of generating a lot of force, but seems to have a strong sense of what's appropriate for your body, and doesn't use any more force than is necessary. Kacie takes her time to find just the right places to adjust that will be the most comfortable and effective for you. She has an open adjusting room with several tables, which allows her to work with several clients at once. If you're new to that format, you may think that she'd get distracted or that you wouldn't get the attention you deserved. I've found quite the opposite to be true. Kacie is very tuned-in to what's happening with each person, and knows just when to keep working on you, and just when to step away after working her magic to give your body the time and space to heal. She also maintains a respectful/honoring space, so it feels comfortable to me to share what's going on with me even if other clients may overhear. I started seeing Kacie for Webster Technique to turn my breech baby. She was gentle and supportive and the baby turned successfully. She also told me that creating additional space in my pelvis with chiropractic would help with delivery and lo and behold, 6 hour labor! I've been going to Kacie for a few years now. I started to go regularly when I was pregnant and have continued to go for postpartum care. I brought my baby girl to her at one week old and have continued treatments throughout this year at different transitional times..like teething and starting to crawl. I can not speak more highly of her quality of care. I completely trust her! Most recently my little girl was having trouble sleeping at night. She was going through a growth spurt and starting to talk..she is 9months old. My instinct said that something was uncomfortable. I tried massage and calming tea, gentle acupressure points but I could not release the tension. After this last session with Kacie, she is sleeping so well. Unfortunately I had a very negative experience with this practice. The day after an adjustment, I ended up in the ER for 6 hours due to muscle trauma to my neck that caused me to black out. This ended up costing us over $3000 out of pocket (after insurance), and I could barely move my neck for about a week afterwards - not so fun while pregnant with a toddler. This adjustment happened while in a room with 3 other patients, a newborn, and a toddler - with the doctor doing adjustments to all of us simultaneously. I can't help but think that I deserve the full attention of a chiropractor while doing dangerous adjustments to sensitive parts of the body like the neck - this style of group chiropractic is worrisome, and obviously I suffered the consequences. I had 3 adjustments prior to this with no issues. I hate to give such a negative review, as they are truly lovely people - but you should be aware of the risks. read more

I have had five major back injuries over the last three decades. During this time I have seen a number of doctors, including several chiropractors. It has been my experience that a good chiropractor is worth their weight in gold, but the good ones are few and far between. Dr. Flegal is one of the good ones! I came in with both a seriously worn spine, plus major cramping from a recent accident. Where most chiropractors use the same technique on all patients, Dr. Flegal tailored her work to my condition. At first she mostly focused on relaxing muscles, then gradually worked her way deeper into the spine. I have had a full recovery without any pain or other side effects from her treatments. I came to Dr. Flegal because she had so much positive feedback. I saw the one negative about the neck problem, but I didn't know how much value to place on it. I first heard this complaint about 20 years ago and have heard it repeated about a few other doctors since then. read more
