The campus is always changing and there are so many new buildings, and improvements. This is a small city of beauty as a campus. I actually love it way more than UCLA or UCSB. The way that students live here is a luxury and the planning and development teams are stellar. The campus is an experience and very environmentally friendly and responsible. If you are fortunate to attend college here, it is wonderful. The Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy are very popular and high ranked. I enjoy my time on campus and I recommend it .

I have been directing business and marketing programs for about six years now, and I have to admit, I truly learned a lot from this class. Michael was very knowledgeable, humble, proactive, and friendly. He would always encourage students to contact him by email throughout the week with their questions. That's on top of the fact that he would always welcome questions and offer feedback before and after class. All class slides were prepared and detailed and would become available as soon as the class was ended Study Guides definitely helped. The book selected was definitely brilliant. Michael also gave us personalized recommendations on our real-world marketing efforts, books, etc. The classroom was always clean and equipment worked just fine. The fact that you couldn't buy a parking permit from the extension student services is definitely annoying and strange. The lights outside the classrooms were off a couple of times, which made it kinda creepy. Overall, I'm very excited for my next class, Business Accounting, and I will try to update this review at least once every semester.

Every time, they kicked the ball back and forth, "escalated" from one team to the other, with no action having been taken. It is a little too exhausting for me to keep asking for that $850. So, if you don't want to lose that amount of money for no reason, please do not choose UCSD extended studies. On the other hand, I wish there were independent audit team looking into their finance: I don't guess my case is the only case; Is it possible that the school kept doing this to make profits?

This is probably the prettiest part of campus, with the reflecting glass and the nice waterfall and the triangular tip, making it a perfect spot to watch the sunset with another. This place is also home to many business student orgs, and it's also reputable for Ernie, the custodian who guards this place like his palace (aka no food or drinks allowed AT ALL). This is definitely a nice place to have class, but beware of the distance and the confusing NSEW (North, South, East, West) sets of elevators and stairs!

Obviously the place was locked secured during our shoot so I don't really know what goes on here on a regular day. I just spent the last 2 years at this fine institution. IR/PS gets 5 stars for one simple reason:…read morethose 2 years have been two of the best years of my life (so far). Why? 1. I learned a lot. Before IR/PS, statistics were foreign to me and I had no idea what econometrics was. Now I (somewhat) know what a confidence interval is, and am familiar with regressions. Woo hoo. Thanks to IR/PS, I know what a public good is, and am familiar with the principal-agent relationship. Crucial stuff right? I should know what a debit/credit is, but frankly, the accounting professor sucks big time, so I still don't know what the hell that is all about. Oh well, nothing is perfect. 2. I partied a lot. Sure, I did a fair amount in undergrad, but i had plenty of opportunities to socialize while at IR/PS as well (just look at all the yelp reviews I've written the last 18 months to get an idea). I'll tell you this much: us grad students know how to drink and party as well as any undergrads. Well ok, definitely compared to UCSD undergrads. Hmm, yeah.. That only means we partied more than once a quarter. Just take my word for it- we found ways to have fun. At least those of us who didn't get caught up in the competitive bullshit. 3. The professors. They're all bright, most helpful, and many friendly. There are only a couple that I'd deem subpar (simply due to super boring lectures. one exception is aforementioned accounting professor, who wasn't boring, but sketchy as can be). 4. Last and most definitely not least: my classmates. The cool thing about this program is it attracts such a wide variety of people. You have us management people, who have a curriculum akin to a MBA program, the econ people who love quantitative crap apparently, and the non-profit people who are a lot more noble and optimistic than I am. Oh, and the politics and policy people. Not sure how to describe them (guess my generalizing skills are lacking tonight). Anyway, all these different groups are brought together at IR/PS. Result is an eclectic group of cool ass mofos. I can't think of any classmate who didn't have at least a couple interesting life stories. And I know I'm going to miss them all when i say adios to San Diego. Well besides the half that will end up in DC with me. So if you want to have an enriching two years and are interested in international relations, I strongly recommend going to IR/PS.

Fantastic graduate education for sure. Professors have impeccable academic and applied ("real…read moreworld") credentials. Very rigorous course load; 98 credits in 2 years, which is more than twice the load you'll get at GW's Elliot school and similar East Coast programs. In short you come out of the program with a superior skill set and knowledge base that puts you on par with any graduate from SEPA, SAIS or the Kennedy School. So why 4 instead of 5 stars? Over emphasis on the management aspect. Curriculum wise this is not a bad thing, however the majority of career services alumni connections are in the private/consulting sectors. I worry about IR/PS's ability to compete in the job market with the big name east coast schools in the realm of foreign policy, human rights, civil society, think tank work, etc. Name recognition. It's an unfortunate aspect to being located in SoCal, but the local invites good collaborations with Mex and Pacific based institutions (ie. US-Mex center, Center on Pacific Economies, etc.) A few things you should know: Quantitative heavy work load, if this turns you off (it shouldn't in this field) then look elsewhere. Language requirement is rather lax. Limited field work in the area (internships, volunteer work etc.) Alumni connections seem to be west coast oriented. So, go to this school if: You love the Pacific Rim, love quantitative work, want an exceptional degree, want to enjoy a diverse student body (interest wise/country of origin wise), love the So-Cal sun. Just don't expect a job to be waiting for you at the Council on Foreign Relations upon graduation...though you will have the necessary training.

The MET (short for medical education and telemedicine) building truly is a gift to the students…read more Starting November 2011, we were able to enjoy lectures in a state-of-the art lecture hall. The only downside to the lecture hall is the intense echo that comes from the speakers. Otherwise, the upper floors are gorgeous, with floor to ceiling glass walls that allow ample natural light into the rooms. The small rooms are used as study space or as classrooms. Each room is equipped with touch screen TVs, video conferencing apparatus, and more. The academic community rooms are littered throughout the building, but I wish they could all have been on the same floor so that it is easier for students of each group to interact. The best thing about this building is that it is limited access to medical students, so UCSD undergrads can't just storm into our territory and use our space to "study" (aka Facebook and talk loudly while other medical students are busy studying...)

Although Biocom focuses on educating those working in the business side of science and research, Biocom courses are also great for corporate leadership and professional development across ALL industries. While I lived in San Diego, I took two courses, one on negotiating deals and another on intellectual property basics. Both times I got helpful handouts and the courses included both lecture and workshop components where you could put ideas to practice and apply them to real life examples. The courses are highly interactive in a small group setting. I just got home from the "Present to Influence" one-day workshop which was all about creating presentations, including the public speaking and slide deck elements. The instructor, Mario of 2Connect, went into great detail and we spent a great deal of hands-on time reviewing and improving presentations I had brought in to the workshop. We even did live video analysis, written outlines and detailed critiques. I learned so much and am excited to bring all my new knowledge (and improved pitch decks) back to my workplace. Although I no longer live in San Diego, it was worth making the 3-hour trip down for such an intensive training and coaching session. My only complaint is that "Present to Influence" is only offered twice a year! They list a bunch of events and courses online. If you are a member of Biocom either as an individual or if your employer has a group membership, you get a small discount on classes. TIP: Unlike the old office in UTC, the new Biocom office has free parking and is inside a gorgeous new building! It's also in the same building as the new Brian Malarkey restaurant, The Farmer and the Seahorse, so you can easily step away for a nice lunch when you get a break during an all-day BIOCOM class.
