I can't say enough good things about Eldale Veterinary Clinic's small animal services.
They're thorough, patient, and genuinely kind, taking the time to explain everything along the way. If you're someone who wants not just excellent + modern care, but to be able to be involved in your pet's care and understand the details, rather than just being a bystander, Eldale is the place.
When I first started looking for a vet, I did extensive research. I'm a data-driven person, so I reached out to the top 10 Google-ranked clinics within a 40-minute radius of Kitchener-Waterloo with a list of questions. Eldale was the clear leader in almost every area. They answered every question they could, and when something needed a more technical answer, they didn't hesitate to have the right person call me back. No guessing, no refusing - just honest, straightforward answers. I really respect their willingness to say, "I don't know," instead of pretending, and then promptly figuring out an answer and making sure I was informed. I wasn't even a client at the time, and that didn't matter.
One thing that really stands out about Eldale is how they treat every person and animal with respect. There's no rationing of information based on what you're spending. Whether you're paying for a simple check-up, a more involved procedure, or nothing at all, you get the same level of transparency. That's rare and something I truly appreciate.
They're also incredibly honest. Eldale doesn't upsell, which is refreshing. While some clinics might push additional services or products you don't need, Eldale offers only what's pertinent for our pet's care. They tell us about our options without trying to sell extra treatments, and they're upfront about tasks that can be done outside their clinic if they believe there's another clinic/caregiver that is best suited. We needed X-rays done - they offered several in-house options, as well as to put us in touch with more specialized veterinarians if desired. Where some places avoided any hint of not handling certain procedures in full, Eldale had no issue being transparent about their approach, specializations, and any technical limitations. It speaks volumes about their integrity. I don't need someone who will always tell me they know what they are doing - those are easy to find. The ones who freely admit what they can and cannot do, just wanting to see your pet thrive regardless of where/how... that's who I want caring for us.
The care they provide is selfless, and excellent. I once asked about a specific medication that wasn't part of their regular stock. Instead of pushing me toward an already stocked alternative, they did the research, discussed it with me, and simply said they'd order it in. No upcharge, no avoidance. They didn't complicate things, and I really appreciated that. Plus, I discovered in this process that they offer an after-hours pickup window for medicines, if you need to grab a prescription outside their regular hours, which has been incredibly convenient.
I also want to emphasize how great Eldale has been with my dog, who is fear-reactive and requires a muzzle during her visits. She's not a safe dog for most people to handle and is reactive to adults, children, and other animals (dogs, cats, horses, etc.). In the past, she needed sedation in addition to being muzzled, but now, for regular visits, we only use her muzzle. Eldale's team has always been understanding, patient, and incredibly skilled. Not only do they ensure that everyone is safe from her, but they also make sure she's safe and comfortable too. While she's not thrilled to be at the clinic, she's never afraid of the staff (just what they might do), and that speaks volumes about their approach. It's rare to find a vet who's able to work so well with a dog who needs that extra level of care, and it's just another reason I trust them completely.
The other review mentioned that Eldale is expensive compared to other clinics, but based on my own research (remember the spreadsheet), that simply isn't the case. When I first started looking for a vet, I compared pricing across multiple clinics. While Eldale wasn't the absolute cheapest on an item-by-item basis, they ended up being extremely price-competitive once everything was factored in. Some clinics appear less expensive upfront, but they don't separate fees in a way that makes true cost comparisons easy (e.g., some roll dispensing fees into medication pricing instead of listing them separately), or they structure things in a way that means you end up spending more (unnecessary appointments, extra medications, etc). When I averaged everything out across multiple clinics, Eldale was actually below average in total cost. read more
