An adventure to León must be fueled by coffee... or at least, I must be. While waiting to visit the cathedral, my coffee prayers were answered by El Topo. The coffee was good- not the best I've had, but it gave me my desired caffeine dose. After that, I went to the cathedral. The review would have ended here at maybe 3 stars. However, after the cathedral, I found myself in a precarious position. Hungry and about to transform into a scary monster, I sought another restaurant to sanction the beast but all nearby restaurants and bars were not serving food until after 8. Lured back to El Topo by a strategic sign board outside the restaurant of "kitchen open," I knew I had to return. I am so pleased I did. They make their own pasta! I ordered a carbonara without the mushrooms which was served on their fettuccine. The sauce was significantly lighter than I am accustomed to, but this only enhanced the flavor of the handmade noodles. I also shared with my two dinner companions a burrata salad- tomatoes and cheese, no lettuce is served with it. It was plenty for us three to share, although we did need to request more bread to accompany it. My companions ordered a salad and a bolognese. For our three quality meals with water bottles, it was about 53€. The service was very slow, which I ascribe to sitting upstairs. For me, the food is worth five stars. Advisories: if you are tall, maybe try to come early so you can sit downstairs and not risk hitting your head in a light fixture. There is also one table no one wants to sit at... the table next to the bathrooms. It's a claustrophobic squeeze. So check out where you're being seated before you agree to it. We were seated at this table but another opened up shortly thereafter so we moved ourselves. The waitress's facial expression indicated mild annoyance at this. I can't believe she was surprised by this, as another couple was seated there ten minutes later and left after two minutes. I imagine this is a common occurrence. Also, there are bathrooms.
