Recognizing there may be few options for refreshments at the futuristic architectural complex, we decided to check out the cafe that sits in the middle of the mall (Photo 5).
We didn't understand the genesis of the name Jamaica since it didn't strike us as tropical. It appeared only one employee was running the cafe, a harried woman who had to fulfill every order herself. The menu includes sandwiches, desserts, and coffee drinks, so she was pretty busy. Fortunately we were the only ones ordering anything when we arrived. Jamie decided on the 3,3€ Affogato.
Featuring a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it hit the spot for him with little expectation. I went for the 2,6€ Cappuccino (Photo 6). We decided to share a 4,5€ slice of Carrot Cake (Photo 8). Definitely an impulse purchase but not a bad one. Meanwhile, the poor woman was serving a batallion of thirsty matrons one at a time. Even though it ran counter to Japanese service culture, we left her a big tip.
COFFEE / FOOD - 3.5 stars...good enough pick-me-up plus something sweet
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...surrounded by a lot of mall foot traffic
SERVICE - 4.5 stars...she works hard for the money
TOTAL - 4 stars...take me to the real Jamaica
