We were greeted by (who we came to find out later was) the owner, who was tending bar and taking care of the entire front of house on his own. And killing it, by the way. We let him know we were visiting from Mexico and San Diego and the conversation just took off from there. My boyfriend's first language is Spanish, so he was stoked to be able to speak with someone who also spoke Spanish and wasn't speaking in the dialect from Spain. We ordered the al pastor tacos (which are my favorite in Mexico) and were SO impressed by how delicious and authentic they tasted! The tortillas tasted fresh and the meat was seasoned perfectly. They even included the little slice of piña! Come to find out, they import a lot of their ingredients straight from Mexico. We reveled in the spicy salsa and the tang from the limes. It was a welcome change of pace from all the French food we had been eating all week. And washing it down with a nice mezcal was the icing on the cake. French food is amazing, don't get me wrong, but absolutely nothing beats Mexican food, in my opinion. I could eat it everyday! Add these guys are dishing up the real deal in the heart of Lyon. While I would have enjoyed both with some jalepeno for a little kick, they were still both tasty, particularly the guacamole. The beans could use more seasoning but still good and fresh tasting. Next I had the tacos al pastor. These were the stars, well-seasoned with a delicate mole marinade and topped with a little pineapple, onion and cilantro.
