Chorizo and eggs
Gina B.

So I came here with family that frequents here, its right on the Northwest corner of Central and Elwood. I've honesty past this place many times never gave it a second glance. It's on the older side and needs some work... which I seen on a review from 2 years ago... but with the pandemic I get it. My first disappointment was the drinks... no fresh tea, it's soda in cans or Aguas Frescas and coffee. My dad was given a soda no glass with ice at least the can was cold. The coffee was ok. I ordered the chorizo and egg plate with flour tortilla. The menu states homemade tortillas but I'm thinking they meant the corn because the flour didn't seem so. I didn't think it had a lot of flavor. With my meal I had chorizo and eggs, rice, beans, salad, macaroni, chilaquiles, and calabacitas. It's definitely home cooked food and seems to be family run. We had 5 of total and our total was 40 bucks which blew my mind.. so the prices are great. I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back, I think I might try it once again because my family thinks it's really good... maybe next time I'll try something else...

Closed carne asada torta with fries. The fries were the BEST thing in plate .

I made my very first stop here on Friday 03-15-24 as it is close to where I work. This place is extremely small and tight fit, disorganized and yes not very clean . My dining experience at El Snappy's Mexican Food, wasn't very good. I ordered something I knew ( I should share that it took almost 10 mins for the young man who was taking orders to even take my order and no one was waiting in front of me to order and there was no menus on board to read which I thought was a little weird ) . I ordered a carne asada torta with fries on the side. I waited 20 mins to get my order. Was it good ? The Fries were the best thing, my carne asada torta was mushy and too much placed inside . I do not think I will ever go back to El Snappy's Mexican Food.

Disappointed I really wanted to like this restaurant. Especially, after reading all the positive Yelp reviews. However, my dining experience at El Snappy's Mexican Food, wasn't very good. However, I would like to start this review on a positive note by saying that this customer service at Snappy's was really good. On this visit my lunch companion and I shared a Carne Asada Huarache and Carne Asada Nachos. To be honest our entree's weren't very good. Our meals lacked flavor and the Carne Asada was on the fatty side. The meat as well as the salsa just had an odd taste that wasn't pleasing. Maybe, I should have ordered something diffrent or we caught Snappy on an off day. Maybe I will revisit and give the place another try.

Menu

Good and fast service, affordable prices, I really recommend eating there. Thanks Menudo

Atmosphere

I would definitely recommend this little mom and pop restaurant! It really has that authentic Mexican restaurant feel to it. The people are kind, I was chatting with the waiter for about 15 minutes while my food was being made. I wish I had taken pictures of the food, but it looked so good, I ate it all and forgot to take pictures. My favorite part is the Christian decorations they have all throughout the restaurant. My only recommendation is that they get a card payment processor because they only accept cash, there is an ATM inside the restaurant but there's a $3.50 fee. Besides that, it's amazing place!

This place is definitely a go to! Authentic Mexican food, taste like it's home made. Service is friendly, it's one of my favorites for sure.

Nice people, excellent prices, great selection, just right with spices, seems all freshly prepared! just right on the cheese with chicken enchiladas (powerfully delicious chicken enchiladas, should be in "New Times best of "). Sushi rolls of various types are what they are advertising as of late, can't wait to try it. Very clean and pleasant atmosphere. I love this place, proximity in downtown is hop skip leap. Extremely understated review, you really have to go there if you like Mexican food - it's a lighter and not heavy in the stomach filling meal (yet, absolutely filling meal), a very rare occurance for me. I'd hate to compare it to the more expensive Mexican food restaurants, but it sits higher - much higher than most Mexican food restaurants in central Phoenix. If this place was in Scottsdale or smack dab in a college retail location it would've made headlines or morning show reviews already. So, it literally is a diamond in the rough. It deserves culinary attention, and it's a pity that you have to know people (tribalist mentality schmoozers) in order to receive well deserved representation in a metropolis overly saturated with the look and feel of Y.U.P.'y -ism.

We started out with an off menu appetizer consisting of healthy sized octopus tentacles served with potatoes in a delicious sauce. Everything was tender and delicious. I was happy about the little purse hooks on the table (iykyk). The outside area, not so much. It's on the corner of a strip mall, there was some etched graffiti on the outside windows, which made you aware of the area you were in. (That's the reason for the 1 star deduction.) The place is very small! So yes, you WILL want to make a reservation. We went around 3:30 on a Friday and I would say 3/4 of the tables had reserved signs on them starting at 5pm on up. The receptionist was constantly back and forth looking at them and moving them around to make space for walk-ins. I would skip bringing your kids here. I didn't use the restroom so idk if that was nice or not. The food was fantastic! And the portions were big. The price matched the portions and quality in our opinion. It's hard to find quality food that's worth the cost lately. We enjoyed the chips and salsa. And hubby ordered a Mexican coke, and the server brought him a frosty glass for it. Everyone around us looked like they were enjoying their food. Our server was great. He chatted with us for a while when we told him about seeing the place on IG. He was grateful for the customers. But admitted, it's caused an influx of people and the 'regulars' have become annoyed. Which is understandable. We'd definitely come back if we're in the area but probably not drive that far out of our way again.

There's something so cozy and welcoming about this spot that makes it feel familiar every time we walk through the door. One of my favorite things to order here is the chilaquiles. I usually switch up the meat depending on what I'm craving, and this visit I went with chorizo. The tortilla chips have that perfect balance of crisp edges and just enough sauce to soften them without turning soggy. The chorizo adds a savory, slightly smoky richness, while the toppings bring everything together with fresh, bright flavors. It's the kind of breakfast where every bite has a little crunch, a little spice, and plenty of flavor. I also love ordering a fresh orange juice alongside my coffee--it's become part of my usual routine here. There's something about fresh OJ with a comforting plate of chilaquiles that just makes breakfast feel extra special. The service has consistently been wonderful, and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable without feeling overly formal. After all these years, Presidio Cocina Mexicana remains one of those spots I genuinely enjoy returning to. Good food, great service, and that cozy neighborhood feel that keeps you coming back.

I think I just found my new favorite Mexican restaurant!…read more The ambience here is charming. It's located in what looks like an old house, painted on the outside in a dark red paint. There are roses hanging from the ceiling, exposed brick, and colored lighting (would you notice more as the sun goes down). The wood ceilings really make this place special. There is a small bar in the corner. Don't forget to look up because there is a little door above with the guardian angel and children painted on it, and a couple of stained glass windows. From the minute we walked in, we were meeting with smiling faces. When you first walk in, you are inside the kitchen or at least right next to it. We started with a couple of drinks - a Corona and a Diablito, a sotol cocktail with lots of pureed mango. A basket of chips and a bowl of Green dip or brought to the table, and we were directed to the salsa bar back near the entrance. The salsa bar is fantastic, with several different kinds of salsa. We grabbed what tasted like a creamy tomatillo salsa, a pineapple salsa, a pico de gallo, and a creamy Serrano salsa. They were all so good that we couldn't say which was our favorite. I know that pineapple salsa just sent me over the moon! For an entree, hubby ordered a Sonoran burrito. He said the burrito was delicious, and kept pointing out how good the guacamole and side was. It wasn't especially big or small. I ordered the fajitas (steak and chicken combo) and the minute they came to the table sizzling, both my husband and I were surprised at how large this portion was. It was served with tortillas (you get your choice of corn or flour), black beans, and rice. The black beans were good - - I suppose they just tasted like black beans. I was surprised at how delicious the rice was because it's white and I expected it just to taste like white rice. But there was a creaminess to it and a flavor that I couldn't put my finger on but that I know was really yummy (butter, maybe? Cheese, maybe?? Idk). Good meat in my fajitas was super tender and the veggies were grilled just right. This was a really common really delicious meal. This place had been on my list for a long time and now that I finally been here, I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. The food was fantastic, the prices super reasonable, and it's set in a cozy, romantic setting. This place is going to be on a regular rotation for us!
