After a full day of meeting with several vendors all morning long as we try to make our new house our home, my wife and I contemplated options for lunch. We were going to try Latin American Kitchen to use a gift card our dear friends gave us, but then Old San Juan came up as an option. So we plotted a course to Marion Oaks to check out the place. Located in a tired looking strip mall anchored by an Aldi, we were greeted warmly by the person behind the counter. Upon telling him it was our first time visiting, he proceeded to explain all the options. My wife and I both decided to order large combo plates (meat and rice), roast pork with yellow rice for her and fried pork with yellow rice for me. The combo plates came with beans, my wife opted for no beans and I tried their red beans. We also ordered fried plantains. My wife thought the roast pork had good flavors but thought the rice seemed lacking, although she conceded that the rice tasted just like any other Puerto Rican rice she's had before. I thought my fried pork could've had more flavor and the yellow rice with Vienna sausage was fine. Service was quite friendly. All in all, a good but unspectacular dining experience. They give discounts if you pay in cash.

Food was great and plan to return. Wasn't expecting a steam table service with my food being dished out in a styrofoam container. That being said the service was excellent and very friendly. I struggled to give 4 stars as the furniture resembles that should be on an outdoor patio Check it out for yourself and I believe you will not be disappointed

Alcapurrias de Masa

Stopped here on a road trip for a quick bite. They are located in a strip mall couple miles off the highway. We shared the Alcapurrias de Masa & Pernil with arroz gandules. Wanted to try a Pastele but they didn't have any. We loved the food and definitely recommend. Not every Puerto Rican restaurant knows how to make a great alcapurria and they definitely do! Service was pretty quick too for our to go order.

Excellent Food. Wish it was open later than 5:00. Great puertorican food. Looking forward to going back.

This is the best place to eat in all of Ocala. Especially the mofongo. Cafe is the best.

The food is fairly good, I just think it's a bit pricey for local strip center (Next to grocery store) eatery. Prices keep me away.

Support your locals baby! Downtown finallyyy has great Latin food and it's here. While they have…read morerecently gone viral on social media, I believe it's worth the hype. They bring together the best comfort food from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Staff were focused and very kind to everyone who walked in. The place is also consistently busy, one person leaves and two more walk in. You can expect to wait 10-15 minutes for your food but the upside is everything is made in the moment so it will be fresh. Pro tips: There is a small parking lot in the back of the building otherwise you'll need to find street parking. Also you want to set the moment right with Passionfruit juice or a Coco Rico!

Los Tres Golpes is the kind of spot you stumble into once and then spend the rest of your life…read morebragging about like you discovered buried treasure. We found it totally by accident, just a random stop next to a venue before a show and suddenly I was transported straight back to my NYC days when late‑night chimis were basically a lifestyle. They do have chimis here, but the real star of my personal universe is the Tripleta. Chicken, pernil, ham, lettuce, tomato, potato stix, and that glorious kreme sauce all stacked together like they're auditioning for the sandwich hall of fame. It's so good I don't even pretend to have self‑control anymore, I order one to eat and two to take home because future‑me deserves happiness too. Then come the maduros, sweet and caramelized just right, the kind that instantly hit you with Caribbean nostalgia like a warm breeze and a memory at the same time. And the empanadas? Massive, golden, and addictive. The shrimp scampi one is almost always sold out, which honestly just proves everyone else has good taste too. The vibe is pure Dominican quick‑bite energy: walk in, get hit with the smell of sizzling goodness, and catch the soundtrack of mainstream dembow or reggaeton bouncing off the walls. It's the perfect pre‑game, mid‑night, or post‑party stop, especially since they stay open until 4 AM from Thursday to Saturday. That alone makes them a community service. And because the business started in NYC, the staff will happily chat with you about the city, the food, the culture, whatever you're nostalgic for. It feels like home, but with better parking. If you want real Dominican flavor, late‑night energy, and sandwiches that will ruin you for all other sandwiches, Los Tres Golpes is the move.

Sound the alarms, we've got a new local business alert! Maw's Country Kitchen is located in a tiny…read morestrip mall on Blanding Blvd., across from Vystar Credit Union. They're serving up down-home country breakfast and brunch eats, all made from scratch. It's a cozy establishment (7 tables, 2 outdoor tables, and 3 counter seats), yet not at all cramped. Although they've been open for less than a year, i could immediately tell that Maw's has earned its share of regulars, with customers and staff addressing one another by first name. The character of the restaurant is as the name suggests...the sights, the sounds, the aromatic fragrances of southern delights such as fried chicken and smothered pork chops wafting from the kitchen...all reminiscent of a family meal at Grandma's house. Noms: Going back and forth between the breakfast and lunch menus, I decided to go with the open-face meatloaf sandwich meal, with mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese as my sides. The tender meatloaf was dressed in a rich, brown gravy and was absolutely divine. The red-skinned mashed potatoes and luscious baked mac-n-cheese were the perfect accompaniments to the main course. I couldn't help but notice the dessert case calling to me from across the room, so I snuck over and took a couple of pics before i ordered a generous slice of carrot cake to take home and devour while marathoning "The Queens Gambit." How was it? To sum it up...addicting and i want more. The carrot cake was equally fabulous. Stop by Maw's Country Kitchen and show some love and support to one of the newest additions to our local business scene! The staff greeted every customer with smiles and warmth, so thumbs up to them, and a big thank you!
