Our Guide took us to Lunch here on our 2nd day of touring, which included Tilcara, Humahuaca, Uquia, and the Cerro de los Catorce (14) colors. El Portillo is located on a regular street and includes a nice outdoor courtyard where we enjoyed our meal. There's also indoor seating and a really cool cactus wood front desk (which I also think serves their Hotel).
Our waiter would not crack a smile, but otherwise the service was prompt and efficient. I had a tamale, the pintoresco soup, and a beer. Gayle also had the tamale and one of the local stews. It was all very authentic and delicious, and in a very comfortable setting. El Portillo is not fancy, but it's authentic and delivered a memorable mid-day dining experience. read more
