Authentic Mexican food...Consistent product at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy, but good overall value.

I cannot explain how disgusting the food at this restaurant is! I do agree the warm chips are nice but the salsa is like juice. No body to it. I ordered a meal with a taco, burrito and an enchilada. I took a bite of the burrito and wanted to spit it out! I figured the other items might be better because it was different. Took a bite of the enchilada and it was worse! Didn't attempt the taco. Figured I'd eat the rice and beans, how can you mess that up? They found a way! The beans were so bad you could smell them as they came close to your mouth! Ugh! Gross! My daughter ordered the chimichanga and it should have been fried, but it looked like it was quickly dipped into the oil and tossed on the plate. It was greasy, raw and rubbery! The service was good but the food was soooo bad that I can't give it a star but I have to. If you want excellent Mexican food go to Mexicali allies! You will see what good, authentic Mexican food really tastes like. Skip this place at all costs, your stomach and taste buds will thank you! read more

I really don't believe in posting complaints on YELP. I think that a manager of the establishment should be spoken to first and allowed to make a correction. Since no manager was available, I have no choice. My meal was really good. I would love to go back but with service like this I will not. Our wait person was surly and not willing to correct our situation. I ordered a margarita. When it came it , it was very watery - no taste at all. My husband tasted and agreed. When I mentioned it to our wait person, he became surly and said that we don't make margaritas with water. There was no mention of bringing me another - only attitude. I was not impolite to him! I asked for water. He did bring that. When presented with the bill, the margarita was still on it. The cashier did remove it when we asked. I had only had a sip - not like I was trying to get a freebe! Their food is so good, but we will not be returning. read more

My husband and I have been to El Patron twice recently and have had great luck with this place both times. The waitstaff is very friendly and on top of things, the free chips and salsa are delicious, the food comes out instantly and it is also very delicious. I am looking forward to our next trip to Howell for some wonderful Mexican cuisine. read more

went last weekend. food still as good as last visit. best mexican food i've had in a long time. hope that statement doesn't jinks them. beans still great, did order what i didn't want cause i didn't want the waiter to wait. it was still great. everything on the plate had white cheese on it, something i don't usually want/like but it was great with the tostada and bean burrito. salsa a little bland but added hot sauce and sugar. poured some on leftovers and when i reheated it, garlic really came thru which i loved. some guy behind us kept saying - i love this place. and i have to agree. why is there so many good places in this area-tomato brothers, this place; caio amici's and wooden spoon in brighton. can't find food this quality in metro area down here. yelp had website wrong its: patronmexicanrestaurant.us read more

This place is great. Authentic Mexican food! Not greasy and dripping in too much cheese like so many "Mexican" restaurants (although I think many people feel that the typical greasy/cheesy Mexican food is actually authentic). Food is always fast and fresh. Love their salsa! We buy extra salsa and chips for parties. The entire wait staff is so friendly, too! Outdoor patio is great for warm evenings. read more

It was my first visit. I had the #1 which was chicken enchilada and the chicken taco. I had high expectations thanks to the yelp reviews. The service was excellent, but the food was disappointing. It was the blandest Mexican food I have ever had. My tongue was struggling to find any flavor in the salsa, the guacamole was decent but unremarkable. Worst supposed Mexican food I have ever tasted! What ever they put on the top of their enchiladas is gross. It looks and tastes like Campbells cheddar cheese soup.Their refried beans is are so pureed you could drink it and their rice is tasteless! Their margaritas are the best thing on the menu. read more

To be quite honest, I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. I went in the other night, and the food was just not good. I'm pretty confident I could get better Mexican food at Qdoba down the street. The beef was cheap, the topping on the burrito seemed like it came from a can, and the cheese was alright... But there was just not enough. I asked for more cheese and got charged $1.50 extra! I will say the warm chips and salsa were good. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. read more

Horrible customer service! Picked up a carryout (on time) and the food was cold. Food pretty bland for the price. Then i find out the next day they charged me twice. they were not helpful in the process of refunding my money at all! They actually insinuated that I was lying to them about being charged twice. luckily my bank is awesome and refunded me the money and they have to deal with el patron. will never go there again! read more

Will never eat here again! Found HAIR in our food about after a few bites. Called the waiter over and showed him what we found. He took the plate and ran away without saying a word. Came back a few mins later putting the bill on the table and said tell the cash register and ran off again. I got up and went asking for a manager. I was told there wasn't one and I couldn't speak to anyone. I was laughed at and they were speaking in Spanish pointing and laughing. They tried to charge me for the entire bill and only took off 3$ for the hair meal. WORST RESTAURANT IN TOWN. read more

I was out in Howell yesterday on business and stopped in to have some lunch. The place had that fun (too much going on) décor that is popular in a lot of Mexican style restaurants. The foyer walls were covered floor to ceiling with photos of customers dining. Kinda hokey, but OK. I sat down in a booth and was greeted and presented with a menu. The chips and salsa were on the table almost immediately without ordering. That was nice. I ordered a combo platter to try a few different things. I ate the taco first. I like tacos. It was basic, ground beef - seasoned well. lettuce and a white shredded cheese. It was good. Moving on, I cut the tostada in half and ate that because it had a mound of guacamole on top. I enjoyed that too. Next I took a fork full of the open faced stuffed pepper. It was delicious and the stand out of my meal. I think it was a Poblano pepper. It had a bit of heat to it which is right up my alley. The stuffing all beef(again..."all me"). They had some kind of creamy sauce it was sitting in that was unique but tasti too. I left some of the pepper to try other things. The burrito and enchilada were good, the rice and beans just ok not a lot of flavor so I left most. I was getting pretty full. Went back and finished the tostada and pepper. It was a satisfying meal. People at near by tables were enjoying margaritas and big beers and seemed to be regular patrons. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday evening at (9:05 pm) because the sign on the door said they were open until 10:00 pm. Our waiter was very prompt and our order was rushed. One of the server was so rude...she huffed away when my wife asked for something. The burger in my taco and enchilada was bland and with no flavor. Our bill was put on the table with no interest by the waiter to see if we wanted desert or anything else. By 9:30 PM we were done with our meal and when the waiter came by to pick up our money off the table, we asked if we could get a box and a couple more corn tortillas - we were rudely told that the kitchen was closed. We said we thought you were open until 10:00 pm on Sunday. The waiter said it was a slow Sunday so they were closing. We sat for a couple minutes in disbelief. We understood why they were slow...We have never been treated so rudely in a food service establishment and after a couple of minutes of not seeing anybody we unlocked the door and let ourselves out vowing to never come back. read more
