I loved this comedy club. I used to come here all the time. I even took my mom here one New Years Eve. They usually had a pretty good line up and reasonable admission prices.

So if you buy your tickets early and you pay for VIP, don't expect anything different. You will wait in the same line as people who are purchasing tickets in the moment. The only thing VIP gets you is a booth seat way way in the back. Your waiter will get to you when she gets to you, so VIP is a water of 22 dollars... Yes I know, you get what you pay for. The drinks were pretty weak. I feel like I paid grey goose prices, but got absolute instead. The nachos were lacking enough chips too really satisfy your hunger. The chili however is pretty tasty. The comics were hilarious. I would definitely come back, but not as VIP and I would go to the first show because the second show started extremely late.

Well, I finally made it to the El Paso Comic Strip store. I love love love comedy clubs. I've been to a variety of different clubs in major cities across the U.S. and I realized I would likely need to temper my expectations of El paso's only comedy club. First, let me start off by saying that I think its great that El Paso actually has a comedy club. Second, even shabby comedy clubs can really come to life with the right crowd and comedian. Sadly, my first experience lacked either components (headliner was a little weak and my gf and I actually walked out. First time ever. It was just sad). El Paso crowd was def older and we barely filled out a third of the venue. However, the crowd was very polite and no one was obnoxious (which is always a possibility at comedy clubs). Third, show was supposed to start at 930 on a Friday. I purchased my tickets online. By 935 we were still waiting outside waiting to be let in just to get to will call. This is a weird way to do business. Im used to doors opening up a little earlier so people can get drinks and relax. Not swelter outside. Fourth, the interior is very plain jane/john (let's not be sexist shall we) with small circular tables evenly spaced in rows. I didn't notice any elevated seating areas or differences in the seating. Hey, it gets the job done but I felt it lacked any charm. Fifth, drinks were solid and strong (we did order doubles) but this place is very expensive for El Paso. I'm prolly just spoiled with how cheap some of the places in town can be, but I thought 80 bucks was expensive for 4-5 drinks (vodka sodas and vodka redbulls no less; again, I concede we did order doubles...but still). All in all, if the right headliner is in town, I think this would be a fun date night. But there is def room for improvement.

What a fun evening!!! It's definitely worth the $12 on a Friday night and they have military discount as well. We were a group of 8 and arrived one hour before the show so luckily we got good tables but make sure to not show up too late because it filled up pretty quick. The show was really good and different comedians entertained for at least 2h. The location is inviting and the chairs are comfy. The light dims down and you feel like in a movie theater. The prices were reasonable I think and our waitress was very friendly and even throughout the show she regularly checked on us. If you need a laugh and want to be around people who love to laugh, this is THE spot!

Such a cool concept, comedy at a venue near you!…read more Laughterhours Comedy puts on El Paso's largest comedy competition too and overall this years was a huge hit (so much so that I don't think they were actually prepared for how much interest there would be). Next year I expect that they'll use larger venues for the shows because two of the venues were at capacity (possibly over capacity...but you didn't hear that here). But when they're not putting on El Paso's Funniest Comedy Competition, they have weekly shows and hook-up with a few other comedy groups in the area to put on open-mics, writing shops, and more shows. There are more aspiring comedians in EP and the surrounding area than one would suspect. Check out their Facebook to stay up to date on shows and definitely catch one. Sure you're gonna see some newbies up on the stage that are trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, but there will also be seasoned vets that will have you laughing your ass off. My two fave comedians in this group are actually the faces of Laughterhours, Gibbs (the owner) and Adam. Prior to working with Laughterhours, Adam actually won EPFCC so that's saying something. And Gibbs also known as the Comagician does a show that's a cross between a magic show and a comedy show. Somehow it works when he does it...although I will say, he's a better comedian than a magician. I've caught Laughterhour shows at places like The Network, Leo's, Shamrocks, and even the Comic Strip. And tickets are usually cheap (or free if it's an open mic)! Look 'em up, it's bond to be a great night!

We can do trivia without an unfunny comedian. All this guy did was put homemade memes up and do historical trivia. He started off with cracking jokes on the military...at a military event. We've got no problem laughing at ourselves but cracking jokes that military can't spell and are stupid when the majority of the room has at least masters degrees? Making jokes that our "butts clenched up" when he mentioned that we were prepping for deployments? Half the audience walked out. Apparently this guy forgot the first rule of public speaking is knowing your audience. He was a broken record marketing his comedy club. I wouldn't go if he paid me to. Watching paint dry might be more entertaining.

I was really happy that Yelp gave us the opportunity to visit Fab Lab and learn about the cool stuff they do, thanks Tanya! Fab Lab offers access to cutting edge technology to the El Paso community, such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and a plethora of learning opportunities, and the most impressive part is that they do it on a non-profit basis! Equally impressive are the smart and talented people running the place, the kind of smarts that make me feel like I put on a superhero shirt, thick frame glasses, and decided to call myself a nerd because I watch The Big Bang Theory (which by the established intelligence hierarchy demotes most folks to Peter Griffin when he thinks he is a genius). Luckily because of their strong belief in the open-source model they are willing to share their knowledge in their on-going workshops! (my knowledge, on the other hand, must be licensed prior to being used, Capitalism!) I was seriously impressed by all the great stuff Fab Lab has going, I feel that they are an agent of progress in a place that desperately needs it. Who knows, maybe 3 years from now El Paso will only be 3 years behind the times. ©Albert K. 2015

My only dissapointment during our last event was how packed it was. They only charge $2, to ensure participation, and there were over 30 kids in the room. I think their events need to shrink down a little or some kind of participation rules need to be in place. Regardless, it is a great educational resource for the science loving kid.

I'll start from the bad to the good. Food: 2/5 stars - I must say, this was the most disappointing part of the night. The food was mediocre at best and the best part of the food was the wine that we bought. Sound engineering: 2/5 - Also a big disappointment, I believe each member of the cast was mic'ed up and the sound mixer/engineer should know the lines by this point in the production. Sadly, this was not the case as several lines were inaudible, music was poorly balanced, and the overall sound was pretty bad. Light Engineering: 4/5 - Nothing big here, no huge gaffes or mistakes. Cast/acting: 4/5 - I had never actually seen the original (or remake) of the Hollywood version of "Footloose" before this performance so I came in with basically no expectations. The cast was full of energy and were obviously talented. Whoever casted the preacher was on point. No huge gaffes or mistakes and the pace of the scenes were executed pretty well. The comedy timing was pretty good as well. I do have to break this down further though. Singing: 3/5 - While he did try his best, the main actor who played Ren was not a very good singer. He shined most when he had dancing parts, which is understandable to cast a male lead in "Footloose" based on their dancing. Every other part did fairly well in giving their vocal performances but since the male lead is so pivotal to the performance, I have to dock some points here. Dancing: 5/5 - This is where most of the performers, and overall performance shined. Every person knew where to be at the right time and the overall visual aesthetic was very well executed. As I mentioned before, the male lead who played Ren was a really awesome dancer and he shined in his solo moments. Overal: 3/5 - A mixed bag from really bad to really good. I did enjoy the overall show though but I was expecting a bit more, especially since the cost was a bit pricey.

This was my husband and I's first time at Alamo so we didn't know what to expect. Back home in SoCal I had been to a few in-service movie theaters and in all honesty those ones were much better. To start off with the good, the theater is very big and looks to be brand new. It is the only establishment in the lot except for a McDonald's and a gas station so I'm assuming it was recently opened. The theater was nice and open, they also kept the temperature at a good spot unlike other theaters who will literally freeze you while you watch a movie. Our server was good, at least the first one that came to introduce himself and ask if it was our first time. I think they have a crew that just delivers food or comes around to check on you cause I kept seeing different people every time something was dropped off. Now for the food... honestly it was disappointing. The only positive I can say is that the loaded fries were good. Both my husband and I enjoyed those. But that's where the good ended. I ordered the watermelon margarita for myself and unfortunately had to send it back due to it being extremely salty! I asked for water instead, which I stuck with for the duration of the movie. My husband ordered the bbq chicken pizza, which he says wasn't too bad. I did have a few bites and really don't think it was worth the hefty $16 price. It didn't really taste like bbq chicken to me, I can't put my finger on it but something tasted off. I got the ribeye tacos and they were very salty. Not only that but the meat was really dry as well with almost no other toppings. The chips and salsa that came with my meal didn't really help either. The chips were super salty and the salsa just didn't taste good at all. I see a running theme at this theater for having salty food. So take that with a grain of salt (pun intended). One thing I do have to say is that despite only taking a sip or two of my watermelon margarita and sending it back for a glass of water, it appears we were still charged for the drink. Unfortunately my husband didn't check the bill and also didn't mention anything until we got home but I think we were overcharged on our bill. I totaled everything and it should have been around $51 but my husband said he paid over $80 including tip. I don't think he would have tipped $30 so I believe we were charged incorrectly. Another reason why their rating is so low. Overall I don't know if I would ever come back here. The theater is nice, big and new - but the lack of flavor in their food and drinks as well as overcharging by what I consider a big amount on our bill. I just can't recommend Alamo Drafthouse. I think going to Cinemark and just getting a popcorn and candy would have been a better bet.
