Casa Gallega on Avenida Cuauhtémoc, just across from Colonia Roma, is not the rowdy watering hole the name might suggest. It is a family friendly, lively, and genuinely excellent restaurant where the food is the main event and the drinks are reasonably priced company. The format is an all you can eat buffet served directly to your table, which strikes the right balance between abundance and comfort. At $399 MXN for adults and $110 MXN for children, the value becomes especially clear the moment you start ordering appetizers. The buffet covers over 70 dishes spanning Spanish and Mexican specialties, and the kitchen manages that range without cutting corners on quality. The highlights on paper include paella, jumbo shrimp, and oysters Rockefeller. My personal favorites told a different story. The fish quesadillas were exceptional. The grilled octopus was tender and perfectly executed. The aguachile of shrimp and octopus was bright, fresh, and addictive. The jalapeño peppers filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon were exactly as good as they sound. The cochinita sopes rounded out a table that was dangerously close to running out of room. The buffet price includes one dessert per person. The flan is the safe choice and a good one. The natilla, a vanilla custard that sits somewhere between crème brûlée and flan, is the one worth ordering. Smooth, delicate, and quietly the best thing that came out of that kitchen. The staff is attentive and the experience flows well. Two areas that could use attention: the restrooms need more consistent upkeep and the space around the toilets is uncomfortably tight. Four stars and a great value dining experience.

Both times my partner and I walked past, there were numerous locals waiting for a table outside. On a weekend, I wouldn't even try to get a table last-minute or if anyone in your partner was ravenous. The pastries offered here are top-notch, a step above the pastries given as part of the typical breakfast/brunch meals in Mexico. In fact, they were rolled out on a cart instead of on a tray. If you're a fan of cream cheese, then I'd recommend the long pastry stick filled with cream cheese. It's a bit too much cream cheese for me, although it may be spot-on for cream cheese lovers. As far as atmosphere, Mi Tierra has the hustle and bustle of a dining place well-patroned in the neighborhood. Even on a regular weekday, there were lots of patrons in large groups who looked like they came to Mi Tierra on a regular basis. We ordered the chilaquiles con bistec en rojo, sopes con cochinita pibil, and molletes. Even though I made a mistake on my order since I prefer verde (green) sauce vs. rojo (red) sauce for my chilaquiles, I still finished my chilaquiles - so I guess I was either really hungry or the chilaquiles were that good! In all honesty, the chilaquiles were good, not great. I prefer my chilaquiles with crispy, crunchy chips that are not swimming in sauce. The sauce was flavorful and Mi Tierra did not skimp out on cream nor cheese - huge pluses in my book! The sopes in the sopes con conchinita pibil were well-fried, although the meat was dry.
