A wonderful, clean and inviting neighborhood market with vendors selling meats, produce, cheeses,…read moreolives, seafood, baked goods, etc. It opens early in the morning and closes around 3pm. From our apartment, each day we watch the women heading to the market early. I think the key to finding the best vendors is seeing where the ladies line up to purchase their items.

They…read morehave such a great selection of produce, meats, wine, olives, cheese, and all the jamon iberico you need (I need A LOT)--not to mention a solid selection of international items, including the most adorable Japanese stall. Plus they have a little food area where you can grab a coffee or beer or montadito. We walked around for a bit, picked up a bottle of rosé and vermut (both from the Valencia region), and then stopped by the food area for a bite. Ordered a montadito they recommended, which included a few meats and egg (all ingredients fresh from the market), and downed it with a couple beers. A couple other locals were doing the same, and it felt like we were a regular. A great feeling. When in Valencia, definitely check out the Mercado Central (it's amazing), but be sure to also explore the smaller, neighborhood markets like this one.

First, it represents the largest produce market in Europe, spanning 86,000 square feet and housing over 1,200 stalls. With its towering dome (Photo 3) and basilica layout, this market feels huge... ...but not intimidating. This space is far less a tourist magnet than a daily functioning, community-focused operation heavily used by the local populace. We saw businesses specializing in fresh rabbit, snails, and specific bean varieties for authentic Valencian paella. There were entire stalls dedicated to freshly harvested saffron, local Valencian citrus, and local seafood like eel and cuttlefish. Of course, for your more immediate noshing needs, you can also find appetizing baked goods, Middle Eastern sweets, and Jamon by the slice. The Art Nouveau architecture is stunning with its iron-and-steel framework and stained glass roof panels. Located in the heart of the old city in Ciutat Vella, it's close to other key landmarks like La Lonja de la Seda (The Silk Exchange) and Catedral de Valencia. RELATED - Exploring Valencia? The prices here are pretty good I saw the paella for 6 or 7€ which is pretty cheap although the food is premade and just heated up. I would recommend a visit here when spending time in Valencia.

Can you imagine being asked to leave a restaurant because you're by yourself. And, can you imagine…read morebeing asked to leave a restaurant when it's totally empty and you're the first customer. Well, it actually happened to me because they said it had to be two persons here. I've determined that it's very difficult to eat pie in Spain if you're by yourself. But for them to actually tell you to leave a restaurant is deplorable. Yes I'm well aware we're not the US, but to me it makes perfect sense I buy two portions I take one home and eat it later. It's not that I was dressed inappropriately, it's not that I was drunk, no it's merely because I was a single patron. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I relish when they go out of business.
