Steak burrito with yellow rice pinto beans shredded cheese and sour cream

Really good steak burrito all ingredients are super fresh and steak was very flavorful!

El Jefe's Taqueria is a casual Mexican place in Harvard Square which can be described as an upscale chipotle. The menu has classic Mexican dish options and is made to order. The line moves pretty quick and there's great soft drink options as well. The prices were reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. There's seating both on the first and second floor that's conducive for groups of 2-4. The chicken fajita bowl was average and was good with the mexican street corn and hot sauce mixed in. It came with chicken, brown rice, black beans, cheese, lettuce, and a mango salsa. The mexican street corn was pretty disappointing though - there was no seasoning and not enough cheese. I'd recommend this place to someone in the Harvard Area looking for a quick and affordable meal.

I was early in the morning. I think they are open until 4 in the morning for all you night owls. They looked like they were in clean-up mode. The tables were clean and the staff was friendly. The one disadvantage is there is limited parking in front on the street. Everyone walks along the counter making selections. First it is type of burrito or salad, then protein; chicken or beef and rice or beans and finally additions like corn, hot peppers etc. The number of choices of addition one are unlimited. The burrito was plenty filling for me and I have a large appetite. I would recommend this place for anyone at Harvard Square.

DISCLAIMER: I was so hungry that I forgot to snap a picture of my food before eating it, so I apologize for the lack of pictures following this review. I simply love El Jefe, their food it's absolutely delicious. The location I went to today was the one right in the center of Harvard Square. This spot is very easy to access as its right next to the red line "Harvard" T stop. As soon as you enter the door you are greeted by a lovely atmosphere, my server was very kind and helpful and had a bright smile on her face (really wish I asked her name). Today I decided to order a burrito to go. It is just like chipotle where you get to choose your choice of rice (Mexican rice or white cilantro rice), your protein and your various toppings( like corn, plantains, cheese, lettuce, different salsas, beans and many more). I would say that they have a very good selection and unlike chipotle here they offer pescatarian options such as shrimps and fried tilapia. They also don't up-charge for guacamole and queso which is great. The lady that was making my burrito wrapped it perfectly despite me putting a lot of things inside. Their prices are very reasonable, my shrimp burrito cost approximately 12$ after tax, which I considered relatively cheap giving the amount of food I was given. My order was for takeout but the restaurant offers plenty seating and the sitting area was clean and well kept. Overall I had a green experience at El Jefe, the food tasted great and the ingredients were very flavorful. I can't wait to be back and try more of the items they offer on the menu. I highly recommend!

Tried El Jefe's for the first time with two of my friends on a Saturday night for a quick dinner before a Harvard hockey game. It was really good!! For a similar price compared to chipotle, this food felt like it had more character and flavor. The service was quick to order down the line and the restaurant was relatively clean for a busy Saturday night. One other thing I noticed for those who enjoy their hot sauces like myself, they had a million different choices. Every time I get food there I'll be trying different hot sauces to get the full effect!

The food is pretty standard. No extra charge for guacamole! My friends went at late night and the line wasn't long and moved quickly. There is a decent amount of seating but it can get crowded. They have a wall with a selection of sauces!

Staff is nasty and stingy with portions. Felipes is a far better establishment. Literally go anywhere else for quality service.

The Tajin Elote is a total flavor bomb; it was so delicious that we had to order an extra one to take home! The true highlight of the evening was the Enchiladas with Salsa Verde and Mole. I opted for the Soy Tinga option, and the combination of flavors and textures was amazing! I really appreciate that the vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options are not an afterthought for them. They taste just as authentic and high quality as the traditional dishes. The bar is extensive, and they offer many high end tequilas/mezcal, and craft cocktails. My Mezcal Paradise cocktail was perfectly balanced. The 4 Leches Cake was rich and creamy; it melts in your mouth! The restaurant has a vibrant and cozy atmosphere, with bright colors to match the lively Latin American theme. They are open late, making it a popular late-night spot. I highly recommend Meatless Mondays, and I can't wait to come back and try more of their vegetarian soy options!

Plus they had other options, including tostadas, bowls, tamales, burritos, you name it. When we arrived, there were people inside eating. We stopped to look at the menu before ordering, and were greeted by a very friendly man who made the experience more enjoyable. I ordered a tostada with steak, onions, cilantro, a little sour cream, green verde sauce, lettuce, and refried beans. It was my first time trying one so so was really excited. I also ordered two cheese pupusas, which I ended up taking to go with me. My boyfriend ordered a bowl with chicken and various toppings. My tostada was delicious. The crunchy tortilla paired with fresh steak and all the juices from the onion and cilantro paired so nicely together. The ingredients seemed very fresh. We were gonna take this to go, but we decided to dine in. The same gentleman ended up checking in on us half way through the meal to see how we were doing. I thought this was really nice. His name is Chef Noe and he was telling us that he is the head chef for this restaurant. He was glad we enjoyed our meal and it was a pleasure talking to him. Overall I think the spot is well placed as it is right near Leslie university in Harvard so I think it's a good spot for students to come or if you're local like us. It's quick but it has quality. Its fast food but it's fresh. That's what I liked about it. It's all prepared in house and the flavors are great. The decor is also cute inside, very colorful and I thought it was creative that they up-cycled Jarittos bottles into flower vases. Definitely check out the spot when you're in Cambridge and you won't be disappointed.

I really need to remember to look online before choosing my order in the future (or so I thought). While the tacos still look incredible (especially the birria ones), the torta was surprisingly great as well. The sandwich is jam packed with ingredients and really well balanced. The beef was juicy and tender, and the veggies added a really nice balance of spice (jalapenos), freshness (onions, lettuce, and tomatoes), and richness (cheese and avocadoes). The refried beans were a pleasant surprise as well, adding really good moisture and flavor to the overall bite. And including avocado on the torta for no extra cost really is what put this above and beyond to a 5/5 - the avocado was ripe and had just the right amount of it to add that rich and fatty element without being too slippery and making it hard to eat. The fries, on the other hand, were a bit soggy and thick for my liking. I had seen another photo on Yelp where they looked a lot crispier and were shaped differently, so not sure if I just got unlucky, but the sandwich more than made up for the fries in this case. I really can't say enough positive things about the torta. And even though the torta was fantastic and I gave it a 5/5, I definitely want to come back for those tacos. Three tacos plus rice for $18 is a pretty great deal, and the tacos really look incredible. My partner ordered a tongue, al pastor, and fish taco and while I didn't try them, they looked and smelled incredible. We will definitely be back!
